The writer writes intimacy in the softest ways, like how the first time he touches her head is not to assert dominance over her but to tell her to crouch down to protect her from thugs.

And the first time they hold hands is not romantic but to give her strength to go back to her job.

And the first time they hugged was not passion but her wanting to thank him for trusting her and an establishment of friendship.

And him offering to see her to and from work is not to hover and be uncomfortably possessive but to be her support so that she can tackle the world.

For me this is more moving than sweeping romances, it’s gestures of kindness that show you truly care for someone and then that is why they are letting you into their personal space.
