When people ask me why I'm a swiftie, I normally just give them the short version which is its becuase Taylor has changed me into a better person, but this is the full reason (in the letter that I once wrote to Taylor, for some reason). If you make it to the end, congrats! All I ask please be nice, as this very personal and it takes alot for me to share, but I want to as I feel its quite appropriate. There's no way I'm ever going back to way I was before!
First of all-if this letter ever reaches to you, THANK YOU for reading this. My name is Julia and I am 31 years old from London, UK.
A lot of my friends would describe me as outgoing and bubbly kind of person which I agree with but also when I hear this sounds strange to me as I wasn’t always like this. Growing up, I got bullied in high school for not fitting in and being different. Because of this I always tried to fit in and I would hide the things that made me different in order not to attract negative attention to myself. Back then and even since a few years ago I would call myself painfully shy.
Things have changed since then and it all started on summer night that you might remember -the night you performed your 1989 tour in London Hyde Park. I have loved your music and your lyrics for a long time so seeing you perform was such a magical experience for me. On that night you spoke about how some things may get us down and let me tell you, this hit me straight directly. Taylor, I am sorry that there are things and people have gotten you down ( the same way it has happened to me) but I now know that we both know that life is too short to let people get to you and affect you negatively. You said something on that beautiful summer night that I will never forget and your words have forever changed me, “YOU ARE NOT THE OPINION OF SOMEBODY WHO DOESN”T KNOW YOU OR CARE ABOUT YOU”! Taylor, when you spoke those words, even though I know you were saying these words to over a thousand people -it felt like you spoke to those words directly to me. Since then I have I realised that life is too short to care about what people think about you. There’s always going to be haters, but the main thing is that love yourself and spread this love around you to kill all that hate. In some ways I am still the same person, but I have changed. I HAVE LEARNT TO EMBRACE NOT HIDE MY DIFFERENCES.
Since that magical night, I can call myself a changed person because I have realised important two things: 1) Stop caring about what people think, 2) IT IS BETTER TO BE HAPPY THAN TO BE COOL (see what I did there :) ). Since then, I have done things that I never thought that I would, partly because I was worried what people would think and that they would judge me. I have dyed my hair pink, I have hiked up mountains and never been happier whilst doing these things as I honestly do not care what other people think. I AM THIS WAY BECAUSE OF YOU TAYLOR! YOU! AND I WILL BE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL!
Taylor, you once said in a letter to us that we gave you the courage to change, we'll that's exactly what you have done for me. I will never be able to express the amount of gratitude I have for you for giving me the courage to change for the better.
I know there will be bad days because we all have them but I guess we just gotta create more memories on the good days to cancel out the bad days. I know this easier said than done, but one thing that always helps me through my bad days is to listen to your music and lyrics and this reminds me of my happy memories and it gets me though that bad a little bit better! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR KEEPING ON CREATING MUSIC! I know this helps you personally and it makes me so happy to see you happy and I cannot wait for this new era to fully swing in. I'm so happy that you reached this point in your life and that despite everything, you never ever gave up and I know you will never do.No matter what happens, please know that you will always have your army of butterfly swifties behind you, forever and always.
