threw together a little rough demo / parody of a version of "stalemate" (called "all or nothing" in the revised production) from death note the musical. showed @mouseysblog (who drew this MASTERPIECE btw), @https-melodramaticz and @drazmatic who yelled at me to post it.
This one was lowkey challenging to transcribe because I had a very hard time distinguishing who was singing what line. Regardless, I really love these new lyrics and am very fascinated abt the character of Jerasu!

* we all need a hero is right after I’m ready, and it’s now a Misa song dedicated to Kira
* I’m ready is much more rap and “hardcore” , for lack of a better word,,
* L gets his own, new solo!
* Misa and Rem get a new song to replace mortals & fools, about Misa wanting to give away half her life and her having been fine with death for a while
* Playing his game is now a video game tennis match (think Wii sports) while others watch. Also in my opinion, the lyrics now are arguably less gay..

This is all so interesting… I’m quite pleased with myself for having guessed that Gelus would be incorporated into only humans and mortals and fools, but having Misa’s stalker scene playing out underneath is so cool. Are there any more rem and Gelus scenes during act 1 other than those two?
I’m quite sad about light not ‘crossing his father’s lines’ anymore but more task force is always welcome.
(Assuming it’s still at Misa’s concert) does this mean we see two songs from a misamisa concert (if so it’s the first adaptation to actually give us more than one lmao)?? The stage was good, full of Japanese interior design aesthetic. Recall me the Barbican Noguchi exhibition (which makes sense, since the show was also at the Barbican years ago).
I highly rate Telly Leung’s Ryuk performance—his vocals were great and he nailed all the jokes.
Colin Ryan’s L definitely had a close look into L’s features. You can tell he has an upright posture, but he spent the whole show crouching and slouching, Anime musicals have this fine line of passing on a character's spirit, and Ryan respected that.

Won’t spoil too much, there were some fun bits! But one thing to point out is that the musical is entirely pop/rock—there is zero goth in here. Light and Misa actually give me bit of a Disney protagonist vibe. (This is a neutral comment)
Also, it’s just really nice to see more Asian representation in a UK musical set up!
Attach the merchant list here too, some are cute, but the catalog to me is slight meh (which I got lol)
For the LIFE OF ME I can’t find a decent quality version of this scene (I’m stuck on my phone, not laptop sadly) but to me new musical soichiro looks like jdrama soichiro if he had any joy in his life

…jerasu’s costume is NOT what I expected. Nor are the other shinigami tbh. Rem looks amazing and ethereal. Ryuk’s facepaint is… melting slightly. Light in a leather jacket??? L and soichiro look perfect ngl. Soichiro somehow has the vibes of jdrama soichiro and I’m all here for it
Being a death note fan is like that two cakes comic except sometimes they put one of the cakes back into the oven for some inexplicable reason and it comes out all burnt and strange
