Witch Journal 01/01/2024

The new year is a pretty High Holy day for me. New beginnings and leaving behind the old bad vibes. Last night I did a thorough Tarot reading for myself and my Fiance (there's is all life and light, mine as per usual is struggle and fighting). Today I spent the whole day rearranging and cleaning out the old energy from our bedroom. I am exhausted but excited to work on healing and growing this year.

I am sure this is not as hot of a take as I think it is,

but I generally would not trust any spell or magical technique you find online that just tells you to use "visualization" without explaining how to actually raise, control, or direct power.

"visualization" just means visual thinking, which some people do naturally and other people don't do naturally.

there are techniques that teach you how to use your own directed thoughts to work with energy or activate power, whether or not those thoughts are visual in nature.

but unless you actually learned energy raising, manipulation, and control and are utilizing it when spells tell you to "visualize,"

you are probably not actually doing anything except just... thinking thoughts.

(and to clarify, I am of the crowd that does not equate "thinking thoughts" to be an act of magic in and of itself)

so if you are casting spells with "visualization" and getting success, that is great, you are doing something right!

but if spells aren't working for you on a reliable basis,

and the "active ingredient" of your spell work is simply striving to achieve visual thoughts related to your desired intent,

there is a chance that along the way someone started using "visualization" as shorthand for "now begin controlling metaphysical power with your mind"

and that got misinterpreted as "now think visual thoughts."

and now I suspect a lot of people are out there thinking that the key to magic is just thinking visual thoughts and then getting upset with themselves when their spells don't work.

Not to mention witches out there like yours truly who have aphantasia and physically CANNOT visualize. I have had to read, research, and generally bother other humans to find out what visualization feels like so that I can translate it to a different sensation (for me sound and touch) and I am sure other aphantasic witches out there feel just as shitty as I did at first when everything I was told was that I needed to see it in my head.
