Taiwan’s Kavalan Distillery has unveiled Kavalan Original single malt whisky, the brand’s first travel retail-exclusive malt expression.
The new edition was spotlighted at an event hosted by Kavalan Distillery and its European distributor La Maison du Whisky (LMDW) at the Radisson Blu hotel in Cannes, during the TFWA World Exhibition.

Loch Lomond Group is preparing to make its duty free debut with the launch of two exclusive travel retail Glen Scotia Scotch whiskies.
The two new variants – Glen Scotia Campbeltown 1832, designed to celebrate the founding date of the distillery, and Glen Scotia 16-year-old – will be available in travel retail stores around the world from early 2017.
Glen Scotia Campbeltown 1832 has been matured in American oak casks before being transferred to Pedro Ximénez (PX) Sherry casks, while the 16-year-old has been aged in American oak casks before finishing in oloroso Sherry casks.
Both have been bottled at 46% abv and are non-chill-filtered.
Glen Scotia is one of just three distilleries in the Campbeltown region of Scotland, and has received ‘significant’ investment from Loch Lomond Group to increase production, warehousing and to build a new shop and tasting room at the site.
The group has grown its global presence to more than 90 countries and officially launched in the US in February 2016.
Whisky (Time) Travel part 3. Miniature edition. This miniature Macallan stems from an important point in the Macallan’s company history. They were produced for a dinner to celebrate the complete repayment of a loan provided to them by ICFC (a UK venture capital company that is now 3i group). Macallan-Glenlivet P.L.C. (as they were then) had required the loan in the seventies to enable them to expand their operations to meet the growing demand for their single malt. Up until the sixties most of their whisky had been used for blends, but increasing global demand for single malts and a slump in demand for blends changed this and resulted in The Macallan being launched as a brand in its own right. To meet the demand they both increased the number of stills they were operating and, equally importantly, the amount of stock they were “laying down”. Some of that stock was subsequently used to produce this miniature edition for the celebratory dinner in the eighties when the loan was fully repaid. Now most of these were consumed at the dinner itself I expect! But a couple have shown up at auction before and have gone for £200+…

Le Clos to list $35,000 whisky at Dubai airport
Dubai-based fine wine and luxury spirits retailer Le Clos will list the largest global allocation of The Macallan Lalique Decanters “Peerless Spirit”, after securing 14 of the 450 individual decanters. The ‘Peerless Spirit’ release, designed and created by the legendary French crystal house Lalique, features a 65-year old whisky, retailing at $35,000, one of the oldest and rarest ever released by the distillery. The bottle will be showcased at Dubai International airport across its six outlets, including the Dubai airport Concourse D terminal.

Gruppo Campari is launching three new Glen Grant single malt Scotch whiskies along with a new contemporary brand identity via a packaging and logo redesign.
The introduction of the new 12 Year Old, 12 Year Old Non Chill-Filtered and 18 Year Old expressions to Glen Grant's existing portfolio aims to reaffirm Glen Grant's position as a leading player in the luxury whisky market.
Glen Grant's new packaging will be rolled out across all Glen Grant products from June. The 12 Year Old single malt Scotch whisky will be available from the Whisky Exchange, the 12 Year Old Non Chill Filtered in travel retail, and the 18 Year Old expression in Tesco stores.
Beam Suntory have released The Chita, a single grain whisky, into Travel Retail. It was previously only available in Japan’s domestic market.
Made as “Dashi”, a Japanese broth used across Suntory’s whisky portfolio, The Chita has given nosing and tasting notes of cardamom, honey, blossoming rose and spiced oak.
The Chita will roll out in Asia Pacific and European travel retail, plus limited quantities in Americas travel retail, in July 2016. RRP of US$55 for a 70cl bottle.
Glenmorangie is to launch The Tarlogan, a limited edition travel retail exclusive expression
A no-age-statement whisky, The Tarlogan was matured in virgin oak and ex-Bourbon casks.
The Tarlorgan is the third release in Glenmoragnie’s travel retail exclusive Legends Collection, following Duthac and Tayne.
The expression was developed in honour of the ancient Pictish King, the namesake of the woodland surrounding Glenmoragnie’s Tarlogie Spring water source.
Deanston Distillery in Doune, Perthshire has released its first organic single malt whisky - Deanston Organic 15 Year Old.
Certified Organic by the Organic Food Federation, this malt whisky has been handmade by a small team of local craftsman using Scottish ingredients and traditional distilling techniques.
Hand-filled into new oak barrels and left undisturbed for 15 years in the distillery’s vaulted warehouse, Deanston Organic is a mellow, fruity single malt with sweet oak and vanilla flavours, combined with an abundance of Deanston’s signature honeyed richness.
A limited annual batch release, the 15 Year Old is being made available in Germany and through global travel retail.
Deanston Organic 15 Year Old has an RRP of £80.
Bruichladdich is to release heavily peated single malt Port Charlotte 2007 CC:01 exclusively into global travel retail.
The expression has been fully matured in French oak casks that formerly held eau-de-vie from the western Cognac region.
Aged for eight years, the limited release has given nosing and tasting notes of peat smoke, salt spray, poached pears, cinnamon, ginger and rich vanilla.
CC:01 is non-chill-filtered, bottled at natural colour, and retails at €90 for a 70cl format.
The Glenlivet has released a 17-year-old single cask expression to mark the 100th anniversary of Edinburgh Airport.
Bottled at natural cask strength of 58.1% abv without chill filtration, The Glenlivet Alt nan Seileach Single Cask Edition is said to “encapsulate the spirit of the Scottish landscape”.
The liquid is from cask number 83014, which was bottled on 13/3/2013 according to label details.
The Glenlivet Alt nan Seileach Single Cask Edition is available now exclusively at World Duty Free’s Edinburgh Airport store with an RRP of £250.

The latest instalment in Bruichladdich’s The Laddie range, the eight-year-old Scotch whisky was matured in American and European oak in a warehouse right on Loch Indaal.
Bottled at 50% abv, the whisky is said to offer notes of apple, pear, and “subtle layers of oak”.
The Laddie Eight was released by head distiller Adam Hannett, with the aim of preserving the “elegant, floral” notes of the young spirit.
The Laddie Eight will be available exclusively in travel retail from April 2016.
DFS Group has exclusively launched The Balvenie 21 year old Madeira Cask at its duty free liquor and tobacco concession at Singapore Changi Airport at S$295 ($213) ahead of its global launch by William Grant & Sons on 1 April.
