Hello, I'm Thorn/Prince/Anomaly! I go by more names, but those are the main three I use online. I'm a genderqueer guy. I mainly use he/him and it/its pronouns but am fine with any that aren't she/her. I'm autistic and have anxiety so I may have trouble understanding things at times, as well as being socially awkward as a heads up! The dividers I've used can be found here and here, and the userbox was made by me.

As an alterhuman I identify primarily as a rather monstrous faery and I'll occasionally refer to myself as a changeling. I prefer not to label this as a kintype and would rather just be called a faery rather than faekin, but I do hang around faekin stuff since it's still relatable enough to me. Also I'm an eclectic pagan, so there'll be paganism stuff here too.

I do also consider myself otherkin, an omnitherian and fictionkin. My identities are a mix of spiritual and psychological, and can be quite fluid. The fluidity is due to my beliefs, I talk about this in more detail on other posts. However, at any given time the following alterhuman identities will probably be an integral involuntary part of my identity: No Man's Sky player character/Traveller Anomaly, barghest/dog, dragon and Trico from The Last Guardian. There are others, which will be discussed on my account, but those listed are currently what I feel are closest to me.

I'm not new to the alterhuman community, and I've always felt like I was nonhuman, but I found the community in 2014 and I've interacted on and off with it ever since then. I also have an alterhumanity based Instagram account, although I'm not particularly active there currently, and @/thorn.prince is the name of it. This blog sometimes runs off a queue.

i will always be a fan of people describing themselves however they want, do not take this as me shitting on any label in any way.

i do think that it is very telling how i see a lot of folks saying that they have "outgrown" the therian label and taken up holothere instead, saying that it feels more real and legitimate.

something about it wigs me out. and i think that it has to do with perceived seriousness and a bid for legitimacy. linguistic shift is normal and expected, it's not like this is really avoidable. but the difference between holothere and therian is not the same as therianthropy vs. therianism.

therianthropy vs. therianism is really just people using the wrong term. it's not intentional. it's what happens when "therianthrope" has been shortened so much that the original tenses and forms of the word are just forgotten. it's an arguably pretty normal linguistical shift. im a little annoyed by it, mind you. "therianthrope" and "therianthropy" are some kickass words that I think should be used more. but i can't really be shocked or even upset that it's happened.

holothere is different. while the coining of the word + the way many use it can be very genuine, there is undoubtedly a growing population that uses it because of its perceived to be more serious than therian. it's adopted as a way to been seen as a more legitimate identity. and i can't really be mad at that, either. to say that therian has lost some of its.... idk.... power? due to it being picked up by certain demographics is not wrong. like there is nothing in the reasoning or the desire that is bad or wrong with any of this.

but it does make me a bit squemish, I think? Because it introduces therianthropy as something lesser within the community. You have an internal conflict with legitimacy, here. And it's based off the label you use. In the past, the community has negotiated legitimacy through grilling. And I am not calling for a return to grilling, I don't think it was a great thing, but... it is something I'm noticing.

How we are changing the way we assert our identity's seriousness is now based off of the initial words we use, as opposed to the understanding of that word.

I could talk more about this. as I said before, this is not an attempt to convince anyone to stop using holothere. I know it has a lot of differences to it and it's deeper to most people. I'm not going to sit here and try to combat this very natural shift in behavior. This is just something I've noticed in the way people talk about the term. It's 7:51 am, I have a final exam at 8:00. So I will be going now. But I would love to hear if anyone has more thoughts on this. I will probably come back around and amend some of what I've said here, I've only been thinking about this topic specifically for like. 15 mins. Give me a day and I'll figure out how to say this a better way.

what is this ? - I have a hyperfixation on both therianthropy and zoology. I enjoy to mix them in order to give therians things to do to feel affirmed in their identity.

okay but, why ? - this was largely inspired by the fact that most therian activity suggestions will just be "make a den," and "do quads," which irritated me so much that now I research and make guides myself. though that isn't to say that mine aren't sometimes repetitive lol ! also, I just love learning and this is a simple way to put all of the information together.

is this exclusive to therians ? - of course not ! this could be for pet regressors, roleplayers, kenomimis,, literally anybody it's just a bunch of animal facts at the end of the day. do whatever you will with the information ! additionally, chosing not to do these things doesn't make you any less of a therian. it's simply there if you think you will enjoy it !

can I have one !? - you're welcome to make a request but I have no control over what animal I get hyperfixated on, so no promises ! you'll have a higher likelyhood if you pick an aquatic animal.

otherwise, you are completely welcome and encouraged to make one yourself !! go learn about animals !!!!!!

Dysphoria

I don't see lots of nonhumans talking about leg dysphoria, so here we go;

To me, my legs feel absolutely deformed. Sometimes I become aware of them when I walk or sit and it doesn't just feel dysphoric, it feels straight up wrong.

Y'know those analog horrors with creatures whose joints are too many or misshapen or at the wrong places? That's what this feels like.

I'm a hare, I'm known for the fact that my hind feet are giant and I can use them to leap across fields in seconds and outrun pretty much anyone. I'm also a canid, I'm supposed to have legs that allow me to run, chase and hunt, with claws at the ends. But guess what? I don't. And it's something that I will never be able to change. I will never reach the speed I'd be able to reach if I had the correct body. Not to mention having to run on 2 legs instead of 4 is already a pain (unless your theriotype has 2 legs). I can imagine therians with more than 4 legs like insectkins, bugkins, otherkins with many legs, etc feeling this too and I can imagine creatures without any legs perhaps dislike having them at all.

Of course, there are shoes I can wear to simulate the feeling of hooves or hare feet, but they are still not mine. Leg warmers can look nice, but they don't change the shape of my legs. I can get into quadrobics for the way I feel about running, but that way I'm even slower than on two legs and all they do is look awkward and bring me pain because they are longer than my arms. (Besides, not everyone can do quads for a multitude of reasons, just like not everyone can run, obviously.)

TDLR: At least to me personally, I hate my legs because they don't and will never look or function as those of my theriotypes and I don't have a way to change it. The feeling of them being deformed in a strange way makes general everyday life and walking/running feel uncomfortable. Creatures with more or less legs who feel dysphoric about it don't get enough recognition, in my opinion.

Quadrobics are so fun, I wish I could do them. My old (poorly healed) wrist injury makes it impossible to do it for long without lasting pain for hours or even days.

You’ll still catch me walking around on all fours or running around when I get the zoomies (best feeling ever btw) but I don’t think I can jump sadly
