"HER SKIN IS PEELING OFF"
Cassie looks up at her recently-deceased mother's 'workspace'. Cassie's mother, Loraine, was a reclusive painter. Her works are scattered around the otherwise barren room. Cassie is now left with all these paintings. One painting catches her eye. A painting of the face of a beautiful young woman. It's the last painting her mother worked on. She feels an immediate connection to the painting. She decided to take it home and hang it in her apartment.
The next day, she had her boyfriend, Jamie, over. Once he saw the painting an his face shifted to an expression of pure horror. Cassie looks back at him, confused. "Hey, babe? What's wrong?"
"what?" Cassie looked back at the painting. It was the same beautiful face...she decides to brush it off. Just finding Jamie's behavior weird and nothing more.
Over the next few weeks, Cassie had a number of friends come over. Each looked at the painting differently. Some with amazement, others with horror and disgust. A week later, she was hanging with Jamie and asked him about what he thought the painting was. He's hesitant but eventually gives in.
"I...It...It looks like a face...with the skin peeling off..."
Jamie draws a small sketch of what he saw. Cassie looks horrified. She looked back at the painting...the same beautiful face... She stares at the painting for a few minutes before looking back at Jamie.
Over the next few weeks, Cassie spends her time staring at the painting. She stares at it for hours on end. Eventually she decides to put it in her closet, not wanting to look at it anymore.
It shows up in the same spot the next morning.
She threw it in the trash chute. It came back to the same spot again.
She threw it in the ocean. It was on her doorstep the next morning.
She tried burning it. It wouldn't burn.
No matter what, it always came back. Always. Seeing the painting back again she makes a audible "ugh". Cassie stares at it for a moment before grabbing a knife. She stabs it over and over, slashing it into bits. She stares down at it with a crazed expression before laughing and going to bed. She stares at the ceiling and with a smile says "I'm going crazy..."
She gets up the next day. She walks into the kitchen and sees the painting again, but now it's different...it's the same face...but with it's skin peeling off. There's a small neon-yellow sticky note. Cassie instantly grabs it. Her face twists to one of horror as she reads the note.
"I made this for you. I thought you could see the beauty in it. Now you'll only see the horror's within. I'm disappointed in you, Cass. -Loraine ♡"
She drops the note and screams in pain as her face begins ripping apart, making her once beautiful face look like the woman's face in the painting. She stumbles to the bathroom mirror, looking in it in terror. She still alive but in unimaginable pain...Her skin is peeling off...
