Some of these are true. Some of these are false.
All of these are examples of people using their minds to explore possibilities. People like to condemn conspiracy theorists as 'nut-jobs' but as crazy as some of this stuff seems there's a good chance that some of it is truth or at least based in truth.
“I dare say you haven’t had much practice,” said the queen. “When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”
Fashion your tinfoil hats and think.
What's Happening?
I haven't posted in a little while as I have been really busy with various projects and work. You may have seen the startling story in the news regarding spy drones. If not, check this out. http://www.businessinsider.com/robert-johnson-bi-30000-drones-by-2020-2012-2
As the police state fully unveils itself, the world pleas for freedom in nearly every nation. Tonight the streets are filled with millions of people, scared for their lives, frightened for the lives of future generations. Our 'masters' pretend to ignore our cries while implementing legislation after legislation that will soon bring this puss filled sore to a head. We will not be stifled.
We can only wait and see what the future will hold but I guarantee we will prevail.
Solidarity.
#OWS marches on across the country and the globe. The people are mobilizing for a various array of causes under one overarching idea, freedom. Whether socialist, libertarian, democrat, independent, whatever, people are slowly awakening. They are realizing the America we've been raised to believe in, simply does not exist. The movement grows stronger but the fight is far from over. Good luck out there Guys! Solidarity.
Piracy and the Evolution of Information
I'm sure you've heard a great deal about online piracy. Especially in the last few months due to proposed legislations like SOPA and PIPA and the arrest and seizure of www.megaupload.com. The mainstream media, being owned by major corporations and conglomerates with vested interests in ending piracy, keep a steady feed of noxious propaganda in our faces 24 hours a day. The corporations have the government in their pockets and vice versa. One's natural assumption is that music, art, movies, ebook and software sharing means a loss of profits and therefore starving artists. Thusly, it is pretty easy for piracy's opponents to get many onboard for their cause. I mean, it just makes sense, right? Well, not exactly. Take for instance 22 year old Abel Tesfaye a.k.a. The Weeknd. In 2011, after going solo, The Weeknd introduced himself by uploading three songs to www.youtube.com. Shortly after he released his first album, 'House of Balloons' on his website, for free. Throughout 2011 he released two more albums, 'Thursday' and 'Echoes of Silence', also for free. His prolific abilities garnered a huge amount of success for the young R&B artist, attracting attention from the likes of superstar Drake. He is now performing at sold out concerts regularly. Strangely, the boys from Metallica are still bitching that people are stealing food from their mouths.
Piracy does, however, have victims. The victims are people that once had victims of their own. Pig-nosed record executives and A&R boys that no longer get to enjoy vast profit margins at the expense of an artist's hard work and dedication. Those people are hurting very badly in the new economy. Considering that up until recently (and even still in some prehistoric circles) the artist made about 10% of every record sold (and even less in some cases), its hard to feel sorry for the people who raked in huge numbers with little to no real creative work. That is, unless you consider creative work to be contract writing, money spending and tricking naive young people. We stand on the precipice of an evolution of information and entertainment. These are strange and exciting times. We are going to watch the complete reformation of the entertainment industries and the death of an outdated and oppressive system. Where we would once spend $15 on a cd that will likely skip in a few months or $10 on mp3s that exist on a hard drive or in the ether of zeros and ones called "the cloud", we now will freely exchange our interests with each other for free. Leaving us the ability to weed out the bad seeds and shitty acts without ever having spent a dime. We will be free to preview movies before we go to see them in IMAX 3D so as to prevent us from being duped by a good trailer only to see an awful film. Artists will easily be able to close the gap between themselves and their fans. They will be able to directly communicate with their fan base, while still in the safe confines of the internet. Well, maybe that is the future that awaits us. Tyrants like the United States government, other governments of the world, corporations like Viacom, Universal and CBS and groups like the RIAA are hot on our heels to prevent any future that doesn't line their pockets well and secure them a cozy tier atop our society. The idea that piracy is a hinderance on creativity is absolutely preposterous. True art is never created for a profit alone. Sure, surviving without money isn't easy but that never stopped artists and inventors in the past. If anything, piracy leads to innovation and ultimately, evolution of whatever field is being pirated. Just watch and see. As for me, I cannot possibly change the minds of lawmakers who write garbage like SOPA and PIPA all by myself and neither can you. But if we work together as a community of online, forward-thinking people, we can see that the future of sharing is protected and encouraged. Again, piracy is innovation.
Welcome to the Thought Militia
The Thought Militia was started in 2007 as a means of bringing news, opinions, ideas and truth to people that may have a short-sighted and mainstream knowledge of politics, philosophy, religion, DIY and various other aspects of the world around them. We don't necessarily operate under any particular political or philosophical constraints. We really just do whatever we wish and try to remain as honest and respectable as possible. Not everyone will get behind this endeavor. In fact, infinitesimally small numbers (in comparison to the world's population of 7 billion) will ever even know this exists. We all have agendas and at the end of the day, our agenda is to make ourselves more knowledgeable and honorable. Enjoy.
