“hey, keep watch for me, will ya?” milo didn’t even wait for the answer before digging through his backpack for the one wrench he had on him. maybe he could pick the lock or break the window. “i think this is the guy that stole my id last week. i see it on the floor.” it may have been a fake but that was the only one he had. he was not going to buy another one or go without his. 

   “ just be quick about it. ”   it was not the first time she’d been the eyes and ears of an incident like this   ( it certainly wouldn’t be the last )   but she had no interest in spending an evening in handcuffs.   “ what would someone want with your id anyway? d’you even look alike? ”

bianca put on a tough exterior much of the time, but she was a hopeless romantic when she did fall for someone.  she really hoped she wouldn’t let him back in, but only time would tell how done with him she really was. a small smile played on her feature as romy sat next to her, happily taking the glass from her. “no such thing as too strong. well.. on a night like this, at least,” she smirked, taking a sip of the harsh drink and wincing a little. “thank you for always being a good friend to me. i know you have witnessed me go through this shit way too many times to count. a lot of people would have given up on me by now..”

   “ eh. he knows i’ve never liked him. you know i’d like nothing more than to get   rid   of him, but   -   ”   romy sighs, shrugging a shoulder and looking over at bianca at her side.   “ you’ll be done with him when you’re done with him. ”   it was out of romy’s control. she knew that and she knew better than to hold bianca’s   heart   against her.   “ and until then, i’ll be around to pick up the pieces that hold you together. it’s what i do. ”

“ i told you, it’s fine. “ he probably had a few more at home laying around. “ they were pretty busted anyways so it’s fine… “ smile was soft as he looked at the blonde. “ you’ll just owe me one. “ 

   “ i’ll replace them as soon as i can. ”   it was a promise she intended to keep, although she had not a clue where to begin.   “ in the meantime.. maybe we can scope out that one bar downtown? they always have some sorta live music going on. ”

            NYX holds her pout for as long as her dignity allows —— which just so happens to be the same length of time it takes romy to succumb to her proposition. ‘ c’s make degrees, ’ she repeats matter-of-factly. ‘ there’s this new club that just opened down the street —— it wouldn’t be right if we didn’t make an appearance. ’ triumphantly bringing herself to her feet, she reaches for romy’s hand, inviting her to follow. ‘ you can thank me for saving your ass from another boring night later. ’

   “ okay, well   -   hold on, now. ”   romy reaches to grasp nyx’s arm before she can get too far.   “ i’m not going in this. ”   with her free hand, she gestures to her outfit. while always fashionable, romy would not be caught   dead   at a club in the same clothes she’d attended classes in earlier.   “ you’ll come help me with an outfit   -   and i’ll think about thanking you later. ”

   it’s a poor attempt at subtlety. lohit has looked over each shoulder at least twice yet he has not taken a step forward to the potted plant.   “ i mean.. it’s a sunday. ”   he’s half talking to himself, half talking to his friend as he eyes the office building’s tall windows.   “ who’s going to be working on a sunday? surely i can just..   pluck   this out and no one will know? ”

   “ ah.. sorry. ”   amadeus mumbles an apology as he attempts to reel his dog back in by its leash.   “ he hasn’t quite grasped the concept of ‘personal space’ yet   -   it’s been about seven years now so i’m not hopeful. ”

   “ i know it’s a cliche   -   but i really am not much of a wino. ”   amadeus barely pays attention as he turns the wine bottle in his hand, feigning interest in the details on the label.   “ people who drink wine come off so.. snobbish. ”

   “ you can’t be serious. ”   her signature deadpan look crosses her features and she takes the smallest step back. to say esmeray was   exhausted   already would be an understatement.   “ i thought we had already talked about this? ”

‘‘found anything interesting so far?’‘ he cried not to look concerned, but it’s the way his eyebrows slightly cocked that make it impossible for him. ‘‘like – every night?’‘ fingers moving through his hair, unsure if he should ask her nightmares or if it was too nosey.

   “ no, not every night. just.. enough. ”   esmeray offers another shrug, allowing herself to be distracted by thumbing through some of the pages of the book.   “ it’s a fascinating book, though. i don’t think i’d ever wonder so much about our sleep cycles until i started reading this. ”

‘‘Impossible, but carry on,’’ he said when she mentioned eventually being old and ugly. Wait. Hold up– how am I supposed to believe that dogs are the easiest of models? Yours, to begin with, doesn’t seem to be able to rest for more than 3 seconds,’‘ he told her with a laugh, genuinely wondering if she was being serious. ‘‘

   “ hey, now. ”   her head pokes around the corner to scowl at him over the behavior of her dogs.   “ they never stood a chance growing up   -   i spoiled them from the jump and never gave them a proper education. ”   camera now in hand, she returns to his side to hand off the equipment.   “ they’re just so naturally photogenic; i don’t have to coach them on anything. i haven’t edited them yet, but i’m waiting on joelle to walk me through the software first. ”   she pauses, but hardly long enough to give mikhail any time to truly admire the photographs before blurting,   “ well? how are they? ”

‘‘for how long will I have to pay for that terrible mistake i’ve made the other time?’‘ patrick teased her, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips as he raised both of his hands up in an innocent fashion. ‘’I was just trying to read what the title was, before you tucked it away,’’ he admitted, broad shoulders moving up and down, before le got closer to her.

   “ the reminders will never cease   -   i may never forgive you for it. ”   esmeray offers one of her rare smiles in his direction before pulling the book back from her purse.   “ it’s called the nocturnal brain. it’s basically a large sleep study with anecdotes from various experiences. ”   she shrugs.   “ thought it might help explain why i struggle with nightmares the way i do. ”

‘’hm.’’ mikhail took a moment to answer her question, only because it amused him, and he thought her excitement was too adorable for her her good. ‘‘– what have you been working on, love?’‘ he smiled to himself, putting his phone aside to focus all of his attention on her. 

   “ well, you know how i’ve been trying to get my hands-on experience with photography for, ya know.. when i’m old and ugly and the modeling just doesn’t suit anymore. ”   her voice fades as she drifts down the hallway to retrieve her camera.   “ i thought i’d start with the easiest of models for my first shoot - dogs! ”

laurel nodded, avoiding eye contact. one glance in the other one’s direction and she would burst into tears. “his friend confirmed it…he definitely cheated on me.” her voice was quiet, her stare blank. “i’m such an idiot..”

   “ christ.. ”   the frustration was palpable as romy sipped from her drink.   “ what is with these guys lately? it’s like all they can do is fuck everything up. ”   her eyebrow quirked as an idea crossed her mind.   “ is his friend cute? ”

“fortunate is…one word to describe us.” camila took a big swig from her drink, narrowing her eyes. “nothing better than later being surrounded by a bunch of drunk assholes.”

   “ oh, it’s only a matter of time before all the desperate folks turn up to buy the bride and her friends   all   the drinks they could want. ”   olympia snorts over the idea, shaking her head.   “ gotta hand it to ‘em though   -   a bachelorette party is one of the easiest way to score free drinks. we oughtta fake one sometime. ”

“i think he’s still here, but you don’t have to do that. i’d rather him not know that i’m upset..” she said, a deep sigh escaping between her lips. “thank you, though.. i think i’m actually done with him for good this time.” bianca had no luck in love, but it was certainly a relief to have someone like romy who cared enough to console her each time. “can you.. just sit and chat with me for a bit? i don’t want to be alone.”

   romy’s lips purse together as she refrains from giving her honest thoughts. time and time again, she had witnessed bianca   fall   into the same cycle with this man. and she couldn’t blame her   -   it happens all the time to even the strongest of people she knows. but to say she was hopeful her friend would finally free herself would be a lie.   “ of course. ”   romy finds a resting spot beside bianca and offers her glass.   “ want some of my whiskey sour? bartender’s heavy handed so it’s a bit strong for me. ”
