Three Sentences a Day
Hi Reader(s)!
This summer we (Micah and Andrea) traveled across 11 states! This blog captures our travel days in three sentences. The trip starts at the bottom in Minnesota and ends on top back to where we started. Thanks for reading!
August 7:
The college reunion continued with a gangster tour of St. Paul, visiting the city's sordid gangster landmarks, while also seeing the homes of F. Scott Fitzgerald and Garrison Keillor. Micah joined us for a late Birchwood lunch. We said, "see you soon," and not “good bye” and caught our flight to Copenhagen.
August 6:
Andrea miraculously triumphed over her wine-induced hangover to spend the finest day of summer with Cara, Andrea, and Hite for their ten-year college reunion. After a marathon, detail-filled, tour of the Swedish Institute of America, we ended our night at Gyst, Minneapolis's best fermentation bar. Micah bought quilting supplies.
August 5:
Micah flew to DC to watch a live podcast of The Flop House with Travis. Andrea spent the day in Edina at the lovely home of Brett and Theresa. The Halversons celebrated Stub's birthday with a Lake Minnetonka boat cruise.
August 4, 2016
Back to Minneapolis and our first trip to Chipotle (we've discovered it's lost some of its cache while we were gone, thanks a lot, norovirus.) Andrea visited the local record shop for her dad's birthday presents. We spent the evening in Minneapolis' twin city, St. Paul, for an antic-filled local baseball game, rooting for the Saints over the Red Hawks.
August 3:
We flew to Denver to see LCD Soundsystem on their reunion tour at Red Rocks. Before the show, we lunched at Hillstone, trying the sushi and Thai salad this time (both amazing). Colorado's new policy environment enveloped us in clouds of smoke at the show, which, combined with the downpour, diminished our LCD enjoyment.
August 2:
Andrea wiled away the morning at Spy House Coffee while Micah watched the Jason Bourne movie with Scott F. Our summer came full circle when we saw Louis CK again (!) this time as paying, laughing customers. For Andrea, the show was a little too dark.
August 1:
To use her art pass, Andrea convinced Micah to stop at a historic archeological site of the Pueblo People (hint: the embarrassingly recreated "cave paintings" looked like the work of a fourth grade art class). Albuquerque's Museum of Nuclear History highlighted the terrifying potential of harm from their use. We said "adios" and "see you next year!" to the Land of Enchantment, returning to MSP that night.
July 31:
We have firmly established ourselves as green chile people after getting huevos rancheros at Plaza Cafe in the Santa Fe town square, which held a Spanish art festival. Andrea invested in the New Mexico culture pass and hit three museums (NM Art, History, and Indian Art) while Micah got a walking tan en route to discovering great deals at REI. Our sunset plans were foiled by storm clouds and deficient navigation, but the evening was saved when we decided to get more pizza.
July 30:
We've drunk the kool aid and decided to come back to Ghost Ranch, a truly rejuvenating, magical place, every year. Our first day off ranch was still immersed in art; we spent it in Meow Wolf, a Santa Fe interactive art installation both phenomenally creative and super fun (GO!) After experiencing Meow Wolf with Andrea's grad school friend Kristen and the adorable Manú and kind Carlos, we sought out Yelp-approved (and very tasty tacos) before also caving (Micah) to a Little Caesar's indulgence.
July 29:
Micah rose at dawn to put the finishing touches on his quilt, christened "Grandma Gretchen," a sweet tribute to his grandma who made his first quilt. His quilt and three of Andrea's painted poems were presented (to our friends' enthusiastic praise!) at the art show. We ended our week with a joyous and raucous Ghost Ranch gospel concert.
