At the start of the year
I made a lowkey resolution that I want to make the weekends count. Ever since I started to “work work” a few months ago, I felt that weekends were always lazy. Not that it’s a bad thing, but I wasn’t happy with them. My mom told me recently that I’m the kind of person who feels like life is running away from me, and I have to keep running to catch up. I thought about it for 10 seconds and figured that that’s exactly how I feel. Not that it’s bad to run, but sometimes pauses are necessary. Like this weekend. Sleeping in, taking my time and going with the flow.
The last few weekends however have been a marathon of “let’s make it count”.
1. We made a table. A real wooden table where the six people in our family can comfortably sit and have dinner together. I was visiting my manager’s friend’s house and got really inspired by all his DIY wood projects. Like his own deck, gazebo, and yes dinner table. So I googled some DIY table guides and convinced seb that this is the best idea ever. At first we totally believed that this is something we can do at home by ourselves. But after consulting my dad he said we should probably get in touch with my uncle who studied carpentry and has a whole workshop at his house. One thing led to another and the next weekend we were at the hardware store selecting the best pieces of wood. Sunday morning we were at my uncle’s by 9 am and worked on the table until late in the afternoon. The day was intense, as my uncle is very strict (and stubborn) so we had to just listen and do as he said. He told us to measure where the middle support beams had to be placed. We were off by 2 millimeters. So we had to do it all over again. With a sharpened pencil. Because our marks were too inaccurate. We now have a table that’s way nicer than what we could have done on our own, but i’m sure we can manage for future projects.
Next up: attempt to make my grandma’s soup

It’s December first
This space in between being tired but no sleep has triggered the usual “recap of the year” thoughts, and I just figured that I’ve traveled to many places in 2016!
Miami
Curacao
New York City
Holland (2x)
Las Vegas
Panama city
Barcelona
We should make new year resolutions on our birthdays, not in new year.
Except...
“We met in college. He walked me home from school every day for five years. We would talk about everything: how many kids we wanted, how we wanted to raise them, our roles in the home, where we wanted to live, and even where we wanted to go on vacation. So there really haven’t been many surprises. A lot of couples only seem to talk about important things if they’re forced to make big decisions. And there can be this moment of: ‘I didn’t really know you.’ And there’s pressure to make a decision. And that’s when the biggest arguments seem to happen. We’ve luckily managed to avoid that because it’s all been discussed before. We’ve been married for fifteen years but we still walk home together from work every night. We’re actually doing that right now.”
Today I wrap up six great years in a place I Iearned to call home. These last weeks offered plenty of time for reflection and I concluded that moving to another continent when you're just 17 is no small feat. Here I am six years later with slightly different plans, but with so much more appreciation for this experience. Living in Holland was not always easy (I was always cold) but I could always find a silver lining. There is nothing like the first night when you can smell the summer after a long winter, or biking through the cobblestoned streets on a beautiful day. This place will always be home. Now back to my lovely island, with great opportunities ahead! ☀️ (at Schiphol Airport)
MADAME CLAIREVOYANT: Horoscopes For The Week Of August 15
Capricorn: This week can feel like the end of a movie, when the threads come together and the story makes sense. This week can feel like a key change, like a shift in perspective, like the moment the sun rises above the horizon. You can’t build a home in moments like these, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t real. They can glow; they can sing; they can keep you alive. Even in a summer like this one, there’s goodness.
Holy moly. I'm officially moving back to the island at the end of this week. And this is what my horoscope says.
