That Anne and Sprig can never see each other again is cruel and unfair.
Sprig didnāt have any friends before he met Anne. Anneās friends walked all over her before she met Sprig. In finding each other, Anne and Sprig experienced true friendship for the first time in their lives. For them to be torn apart with no hope of ever seeing each other again is unfair and cruel.
Look at Anne in the epilogue. Itās pretty clear from her working at the frog exhibit at the aquarium that she hasnāt gotten over the loss.
She built the entire World of Frogs exhibit to look like Amphibia. She went of her way to track down a specific species of frog that looked like Sprig, and named it after him. For all her talk about letting go in her closing monologue, Anne clearly hasnāt been able to let go.
Itās not just Sprig, either. Itās all of Amphibia. Before sacrificing herself to save the core, Anne asked the stonesĀ āhelp me save the world I loveā. Amphibia wasnāt just some fantasy world full of talking frogs that she got lost in. In the context of the show, it was a real world, with real people, a place where Anne found peace.
That she was torn away from all is as cruel, if not more so, than losing Sprig forever.
Amphibiaās message about moving on and letting go does not fit Anneās story at all. It works for Marcy (who did get lost in a fantasy world and was trying to escape reality) and maybe Sasha as well, who got lost in a power fantasy of her own in the first two seasons, but not Anne.
Anne wasnāt trying to escape reality. She was the only member of the trio who was actually trying to get them home from the start. And in the end, she gave up the most important things in her life for no good reason.
Why did Anne go back to Earth? To live a normal life? To finish school? To get a job? Did Anne even want any of those things? No. The only thing that ever really mattered to her about her life in L.A was her parents. She had no other friends beyond Sasha and Marcy. She didnāt have the slightest clue as to what she wanted to do with her life.
In Amphibia, Anne found a life that was worth living. A simpler life in a small farming community called Wartwood. And she gave it all up for NOTHING.
Anne shouldāve stayed in Amphibia, with Sprig, Polly, Hop-Pop, and all the people who cared about her. Some people might argue that doing so would be cruel to her parents (who already lost her once) but I think Mr. and Mrs. Boonchuy would understand if Anne decided to stay. They would want her to be happy.
