… Oops I did it again!

The hole of … CORPORATE DOOM!!

Nope, I am not referring to a new genre of metal (although I am pretty sure someone will invent it – copyright and royalties to your left please & thank you), but to the rather evil activities I conduct between 9 and 5:30 which have literally made me sink into my sofa, my bed and my pity parties for the last 2 weeks. I didn’t sink like Leonardo DiCatchaHo in Titanic, but was more or less floating like Kate Boobslet – aimless, cold but still determined to go home with my bling.

Add to this an overall very gloomy atmosphere all around (this is the white witch talking), and we have a recipe for late blogging … But better late than never right?

I am resuming with some various topics this weekend, including witchcraft and conspiracy theories – and of course makeup, fashion and other assorted shenanigans 🙂

The below basically represents me over the last 2 weeks : plunged into darkness, but still wanting to pop out – especially with my new Kreepsville necklace !

Work has been challenging, with classic office passive aggressive bullying happening in meetings. In essence, there are people on this Earth who get their 10 seconds of fame by trying to shoot others down in public – in my case, by pointing out that the colour of a box I drew was the wrong shade of green [aaaand he repeated it 4 times, louder each time].

What they don’t know is that mama is armed and ready and that I am always prepared for my meetings. So they had to contend with ‘haha you might need adjust the resolution of your glasses’,  cue *cute smile, psycho eyes* , should we move on to a more RELEVANT topic of discussion??‘.

Never be afraid to put wafflers in their place! Just because they like the sound of their own voice, doesn’t mean you have to listen to it.  You can turn the volume down.

Personally, I put their arse on mute  🙂

Socially, I felt pushed against the wall a bit over the last weeks or so, I haven’t gone to Download festival  – which I am very fond of  – and felt generally quite behind in my scheduling of activities.  And this has nothing to do with the fact that I have missed out on 5 days of heavy metal, booze and more metal …

WAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH! Yes it does. Lol.

But I now have a break scheduled in Paris, one in Italy and one in Spain with a fellow queen of the Dark, so I AM catching up … and so is my credit card.

But the worst thing you can do with lost time, is to keep losing more of it. Whilst we cannot go back in the past, we can be efficient in the present. Like book multiple trips ahead even if payment happens later down the line. I like my diary like I like my tummy : FULL !

Aaaanyway today’s blog post is a fashion one with a bit of a Hippy Metal Witch of Primrose Hill tone … You don’t know what that means? Groovy! that is good news as I just made it up!

As you may have gathered, I LOVE to layer clothes, and especially wearing long-ish skirts or dresses with heavy metal boots.  So guess what? I did it again. Oops.

Baby, hit the website one more time …

I am wearing an Iron Maiden dress which I got in H&M, layered with a mesh overlay I got in Forever21 . Forever21 ROCK for their overlays, I always find some good stuff there. This one gets double cool points as it is split on the side – which is perfect as I put on some weight.

Goddamn you Twix bars! So small yet so potent !!

My hat is from Killstar, and I got it thrifted on a Facebook group for alternative items, but you can still find it here.  I have a thing with buying only on sale / thrift. Must be because of too many years working in retail and seeing the ridiculous margins!

And guess where the leggings are from?? Forever21 again! They had a bit of a black lace and corset phase last winter and I very much enjoyed it.

As I said multiple times, being alternative is not about buying everything from JeSuisTresGoth.com, but about creating and rocking your own style !

Shops to me are just a source – and I consider all sources when I shop.

So for instance, this choker cost me £2.59 on Ebay postage included. The product is here, price has slightly increased but better than the £15 other websites charge, right?

I am wearing two belts : both from mainstream stores 🙂 A primark studded belt (£1 or £3, it is old, and one from Dorothy Perkins quite old also). I love belts and own two bags full!

But guess what, belts don’t tend to go out of style so it is worth getting some and keeping them. Plus they can revive an old dress or outfit! … Wish I could say the same about make up and my sleepy face eeek!

So this is the end of the post, and I can honestly say that my go-to for an outfit that is truly me always involves length and some sort of drama! I don’t know why, but I just love floaty things and capes … My reasoning is that I must have been a badass witch in a past life? 😉

For anyone who has been surfing this me(n)tal blog, you may have noticed that I am not your textbook Goth /Alternative/Metal chick. I have never been into textbook looks or behaviours – and as such have always felt a bit alternative to the alternative. [This sounds like a political party, right? “Vote for me and you will get free dark chocolate, a 4 day week and a Black Kitty national bank holiday!”].

This over-categorising of looks within subcultures wasn’t so obvious in my youth (other than generic punk/goth/metal), as people weren’t so obsessed with labelling themselves anything and everything under the sun – “punk polyburgerous transbanana with lunar disorder”… give me a break !

Back in my teenage years, I was just walking around as me, the girl with long black skirts, metal t-shirts and badly applied eyeliner (come on that shit takes years of practice, even Robert Smith gave up!).

These days, social media is ruining originality and any sense of uniqueness and the richness of subcultures by forcing down everyone’s throats ‘textbook looks and physical traits for being a Goth / Alt Chick’. If you don’t fit the model, you are not a “true Goth” or a true “Metalhead”… Nevermind the music, the books, the movies, the DIY …

Goth The Fuck Out of Here !

Excuse my French (it comes out when I am very tired or pissed off ) … but how have we ended up with corporations dictating how a subculture is meant to be lived and enjoyed?? (PS: I know I am repeating myself on this post – but this is the summer version and I promise I will stop raving about this lol)

My Gothism stems from my love of all things dark and macabre and it has started at a very young age through an avid love for Horror/Gothic books and novels. This was combined with a fascination for the occult, the supernatural and genuine witchcraft (none of that broomstick crap – mama uses easyjet and the Eurostar).  Saying that, I have a natural inclination for the peace and quiet of cemetaries, BUT I am also known to be a major headbanging thrash metal demon with a love for pink lipstick!!

Where does that leave me?

… A hybrid fancy metal goth if I may label myself? 😉

Yep, I love black, I love tutus, I love studs, I love skulls, I love big dresses and I am happy to have my own brand of glam goth🙂  Style for me is not about what pre-made category you fit in, but what makes you, YOU, and if this means a category of your own : so be it !!

This weekend, I went to play Goth Lady of The Metal Manor (on a budget) at the Hill Gardens & Pergola in Hampstead Heath. This place is amazing and is literally someone’s backgarden which they allow peasants like me access to.

The look?

I teamed up a Killstar dress which I purchased on sale with a tulle skirt I got in H&M (on sale as well) at Christmas. The weather was super warm so I needed comfort and style… can be done on a budget !

Savvy Goth Tip! Around the festive period, do check your local H&M for lace and tulle overlays 🙂 I always find some nice things around Christmas which I can use and reuse; like this skirt – it was £14.99.

These glasses were purchased on Etsy and the umbrella on Ebay : £9.99.

The belt is a very old ASOS belt which I am using time and time again when it actually circles my waist, and I haven’t binged on chicken pad thai!

I twirl therefore I am 😉

In summary, I like to make up my look as I see fit – I really really cannot stand ‘trends’ … or textbook looks.  I am a happy thrifting fancy metal goth wierdo with a love with bouffant dresses and heavy metal 🙂

… So this is part two of my blog series about the epic event known as Whitby Goth Weekend. For those of you who may have missed part one, please jump here and embrace your inner Morticia / Gomez !

During my stay in Whitby, I had to immortalise myself in the surroundings (isn’t this the most narcissistic thing you have ever heard??). By this I actually mean : pose and run to the camera to hit the ‘snap that outfit before yer lunch tummy explodes the belt‘ button.

Just across my hotel was this lovely park, waiting for me to unleash my photographic … impatience. I am terrible with setting up!

The outfit I am wearing follows the rules I always follow when I put an outfit together : layer, layer, layer …a.k.a PILE IT ON!

The pentagram earrings were sourced on Ebay – why spend £15 on a mainstream site for basic pentagram earrings, when just as nice, if not nicer ones can be sourced? I love mine, they cost me £2.95 postage included from this seller. Bargain!

The dress is from Killstar – and I bought in on the sale. I like it but I figured it needed some jazzing up, so I plonked a £12.99 corset belt from Attitude Clothing on it. This belt is amazing and will make any outfit pop!

The second scene of the gallivanting goth episode was at the Whitby Abbey and cemetary … I adore this cemetary, it overlooks the sea and provides a stunning view of the town.

My second look was burlesque goth inspired and the scene was the beach front …  a really chilled beach.

Apologies, the quality of the photos suck as these were taken from my iPhone and a tripod from POUNDLAND !! I forgot to take the charger for my camera (remember the impatience I mentioned earlier???) , so I had to improvise 🙂

I am wearing a velvet halterneck dress from a charity shop which I accessorised with a corset also thrifted 🙂  Total cost : £10!

The necklace is from Killstar, I normally don’t cave in spending a lot in a necklace but this one is massive and as you may know, I am the Mister T of Goth Bling !!

One way of making an outfit pop is wearing some psychedelic tights : these are from ASOS, and I bought them from their sale section. You will find a lot of unique stuff in there!

⚡Lookbook: Whitby Goth Weekend 2018⚡ ... So this is part two of my blog series about the epic event known as…

… Sorry folks, but it took me nearly a week to reacclimatise to the “normal” world of bureaucracy, bullshit neatly typed in Office 365 and other assorted ghastly corporate crap.

After a wonderful 3 days at the Whitby Goth Weekend Festival – and as many outfits for me (lookbook post incoming!), going back to the office has been utterly depressing … I literally rocked up in the office looking and feeling like Abbath.  For an accurate visual representation of what this means, please picture the below creature with some blonde highlights, a black blazer and a slightly lighter lipstick. That’s it, you got Yours Truly :

But fear not, for I will reminisce about this glorious weekend by your side! And if you want to truly join me in this experience, grab a curry, some metal and splatter some black kohl all over your face because that is truly my current state – please ensure the mascara is runny vertically as illustrated!  Pout and make up to replicate above.

I will do two posts : one about the actual town event and one about the lookbook and my experience at the shows.

First of all, the town of Whitby.

Upon arrival on the Friday, I quickly dropped my things at the Arundel House Hotel  (I highly recommend it) and went for a stroll … I was NOT expecting such a cute little quaint town with a picturesque setting !

Whitby has its own charm and character and I absolutely loved it – more often than not, some English towns just end up being copies of each other, and I didn’t see this in Whitby.

The beach was gorgeous and provided (of course) a perfect background for seaside posing. I mean how neat and peaceful is this?? I even switched off Metallica from my Spotify when I arrived ! That is unheard of in my world !

Next, The Glorious Gothicness.

The effort people went into is AMAZING !!! Victorian Goths, Cyber Goths, Steampunk Goths, Pirate Goths, Fancy Metal Goths (that’s me) … a multitude of styles were represented, which made the streets of Whitby a glorious gothwalk.

Everybody was so ON POINT : canes, hat, make up, shoes, feathers, leather … everything was absolutely spot on and I felt somehow underdressed in my fancy metal goth attire.

But who cares when you have GOTH ICE CREAM!!!!!

Basically the town was one big ol’ Gothic Extravaganza, and photographers had plenty to snap!

What can I say? This place was LITERALLY Goth Central : events, shops, gigs, food, music … everything was geared towards the Gothic Community and I was totally enchanted by it – for those on my social media accounts – you may have noticed a flurry of instagram / facebook posts about it 😉

But my, my, my … this post is getting massive and I haven’t even talked about the Greatest Goth Shop in the world, the Circus of Horrors, the Abbey, my crazy purchases …  So folks, how about a date to come back tomorrow for part 2??!

Did you know that in the UK Summer lasts one week? We had ours last week actually. Seriously, the entire country was socks and inhibitions free for a few days, but is now back to Chewbacca levels of clothing layers. Classic British Summer. On this note : #RIPSummer2018.

I have however made the most of that bit of sunshine last Sunday during a stint in Greenwich Park, which is located on the East side of London. On a day like this, there is nothing better than a stroll in the market and some tasty thai food to demolish in the park !

The look I went for is “I am a Sun Loving Goth, And I Still Wear Black in Summer, Meh”.

The top is from Boohoo, and I got it during their Halloween season. They had such cute cool pieces for a few pounds, I always check them out for basic pieces to gothify. This top really makes heads turn – you almost feel like you can be responsible for The Exorcist 2018 edition 😉

These shoes are old and FELL INTO PIECES whilst I was in the park !! They were from George from Asda, and quite comfy little wedges … I got so grumpy after one of the strap took itself out whilst I was walking… I ended up cursing like a true witch!

The skirt is from Primark and I looooove it. Perfect for work and nice bit of tulle to jazz things up. The belt is from New Look : £0.50p on sale !

The sunglasses are from Witch Worldwide, but got mine off Attitude Clothing to get them faster. Come on, remember : the summer only lasts a week !

I wish I could say I am late posting because I won the lottery and I am enjoying a private Corey Taylor gig whilst drunk on Veuve Cliquot bellinis, but the reality is that my day job is currently kidnapping my soul even after 5:30pm. Satan, you suck, I never signed up for overtime when I signed my corporate deal!!

With no further adieu, I shall present part 2 of the Isle of Wight trip, which happened on the weekend of 13th april, this time focussing on the Compton Bay beach, a beautiful of stretch of sand about 30 mins away from Newport.

My breath was literally taken away by the powerful marine breeze – and the stunning view. For once, my nose wasn’t carrying out its “self-service nose job procedure”, eg uber tight squinting of the nostrils to prevent the morning stench coming in. If you are a London commuter : ya know what I mean.

I really loved the fact that the beach was so vast and yet friendly and welcoming : everyone could have their spot without being on someone’s way, which I hate with normal beaches. There were surfers, families with kids, solo peeps like me [though without the tripod and booty cape 😂]

As I packed very last minute, I took some really random bits of clothing with me … They seem to have done the trick for my Goth With The Wind on The Beach scene, non? 😀

The booty cape is one of my favourite item of dressing up, though I rarely use it. It is a steampunk wrap skirt I got on amazon – technically you are supposed to wear it over a fluffly steampunk skirt… But I am not technical and I don’t like to follow rules, so I just wrap it around my arse when I feel like it !!

The shoes are Demonia, I paid £22 on Amazon .A tip for you alt fashion fiends : peruse Amazon for crazy prices on last items in stock. Also remove the women/men shoe filter because sometimes it is skewed : these ankle boots were in the man section (size 36 lol). Proof:

That is me done for the Isle of Wight … I have really enjoyed being away from London for a bit – however being away from it does remind you of both why you love and hate it.  I do love the convenience and endless choices the city gives me, but man, I absolutely hate the lack of space and mad pace that is rampant in London.

Alright dudes and dudettes, for once, we are not going to talk about my own personal circus (with my neighbours as the freaks and me as the knife thrower), but about the first Isle of Wight Gothic Circus !

I have indeed gone to the Isle of Wight (IOW) for the weekend and will be publishing three posts : two about the gothic circus, and another one about me at the beach  the Compton Bay beach as well as some snippets from my trip.

Aaaaaaare you reaaaaaaaaaady?

First of all, you will not escape my mug. This was me making a batshit arrival at the Gothic Circus, held about 15 mins away from Newport where my hotel was. I had a bat headband purchased in H&M which made a few people curse or laugh depending on how far away they were from me in the tent.

Sample comments I got : “that headpiece is awesome, your bats are dancing when you are moving“, answer : ” thanks mate!”;  ” Do you mind moving, all I see is bats!?“, answer : “KISS MY BATS!”

Bless this local band and their lead singer. He reminded me of Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance (don’t ask me why or how I know about them *sigh*).  He made this dramatical entrance – wig firmly latched on and everything:

Apparently, it was a “well rehearsed stage move” … just like when I spill coffee at work innit? But to give credit where it is due, they put on a performance and had these two gonzos straight from Dragon Ball Z the Kinky Edition throwing some sparks:

I am having a bit of a backlog issue with blog posts as so much stuff is happening at the same time … and actually I am one island behind, as I am writing this from the Isle of Wight, where I decided to go to attend the first Gothic Circus (next blog post!).

In the meantime, I am sharing a double trouble post which contains fashion and scenery … see I am not just a vapid poseur? 😉 This is from last weekend, when the weather was on a high.

The scene is a London canal path which I took from Regent’s Park but can be taken from my other places and leads to various other areas within London – including Paddington (where the bear is chilling) and Camden (where the alternative market is located).

On my way I met some cheeky characters …

On the canal, you will actually see houseboats, where lucky people get to avoid shitty neighbours and enjoy the peace of the waters. I think I want one of those!

The building in red is a Chinese restaurant – I have never been to it despite walking by many times. And I am a hungry girl, WTF is wrong with the my world?

It actually takes me a bit to set up when I am self shooting : it is not so much the physical set up of the tripod and camera, but the angle and height etc … Doing full length shots mean ensuring there is enough distance and so on.

This outfit was quickly put together and hopefully shows that having the right accessories can completely make an outfit…. Indeed, most of the clothing, which I will describe below is from mainstream brands. No need to spend £80 on a dress … Spend it on BLING! 😉

I am absolutely in love with this metallo-steampunk hat I got from Ebay.

The belt is from killstar, you can find it here for £29.99 (I bought it when they had a promo on 20% – register for the emails, they are annoying but can contain some cool discounts).

The dress is from Amazon, I was looking for a “high low” dress, as I LOVE them, they honestly give a good booty and create a cool effect. That link will show you some. Mine cost me £15 and I wear it a lot. A LOT.

My coat is from Zara … from the teenager section !! Don’t judge, the teen section has some cool ass stuff and I will go there as long as I can fit teehee. It is a kinda shaggy coat which goes well with most of outfits.

The multi-layer chain is from H&M. I love it but it is HEAVY AS F***! Always check the Divided section of H&M, again teenagers are given special grunge treatment (but so can we!)
