i think straight people don’t understand the significance of coming out and it changing who you are. because they view it as just sex. but really it is such a bright light into allowing yourself to be. when you’re in the closet doing anything that could “give yourself away” scares you, so you shy away from a lot of things you love.

today i got nails for my sisters wedding and even my mom mentioned “wow! those are so you!” and it’s in the simple things down to how i got my french tip done at the nail salon. it’s an opening to let yourself exist in a state of being instead of always looking forward in fear. that’s why you change your style the way you move through the world it’s different bc there’s a lack of fear anything could “give you away”.

and even my homophobic family members see me as a whole me now without even taking lesbianism into account. they see what i like and how i move and what i do they find it so refreshing bc they love me, so me being more of me is a good thing

ig it just hit me that coming out is always seen as just sex or just dating and it’s not. it’s also not even just queer stuff. but straight people have a harddd time with that lol

i’m dead. so my fathers a little stupid in anthropology things (due to his raising i won’t get into it) and he also supports me being a lesbian fully. my mother does not. well today i was laughing bc he listens to the country version of fast car by tracy chapman and he was like “well he did a duet with tracy! that was the first time she sung publicly in about 30 years! …..it’s strange though, that people pushed tracy into hiding for being a lesbain but there were people like bowie and (another white bisexual i forgot)…i don’t know what the issue with her specifically was….”

me: well i think it may have to do with her being a black woman.

dad: hmmmm i guess. its just there were other guys being gay too. but i guess. yea her being black might have been a part of it. it’s just so sad. all she was was a lesbian and she’s such a good singer.

realized it’s only been a year this month since i came out to my family as a lesbian and wow have i changed a lot in my comfortability in myself—i remember wondering why i couldn’t seem to move forward i felt so stagnant and here i am realizing it was because being in the closet is detrimental to your wellbeing. and so all that to say pride is fucking important and i’m going to my first pride event for june today and im so excited to be a visibly queer woman which is exactly what i used to look up to and love seeing when i was closeted. xoxo
