"You only like this character because she's a woman!" okay and you hate her because she's a woman, knowing that she has all the traits you would enjoy in a male character.
I know we all have that timeline that was SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN where the Krang won
BUT
what if the Shredder won?
WHAT. IF. THE. SHREDDER. WON.
AND THE KRANG DIDNT HAPPEN.
we all know DAMN WELL that there is a timeline out there where the Shredder won either by killing the Hamato family or taking Splinter’s essence (or both) and I WANNA SEE WHAT THAT TIMELINE LOOKS LIKE
like maybe Mikey is practicing his portal stuff (if he can have the power to open dimensional rifts and send someone back in time who says he can’t open rifts to DIFFERENT TIMELINES???) and he accidentally finds a world where the Shredder won and his family is destroyed. maybe Draxum is there with him, or one of his brothers. or both! maybe the brothers in that world never unlocked their Ninpo. maybe, if they’re alive, Mikey helps them unlock it.
maybe not. maybe the world is just doomed and there’s nothing Mikey can do about it
we NEVER see a “Shredder won” timeline and that makes me really sad because there’s SO MANY things you could do with it!!
if someone makes something like this PLEASE tag me 🙏🏻 or i’ll make it myself 🤭
people on here make ocs and they're mostly men and they ship characters and they're always men and they have favourite characters and they're always men but sometimes they say the men are like women not trans ones though because that would be guh-ross and harsh the vibe of the #fandomspace and they write fanfiction about men and talk about how complicated and #deeplywritten their male favs are and they'll watch movies and tv shows with mostly male casts in every way that matters and not question it because well what do you want them to do about it and they don't even care that that's what they're doing to them it's pure coincidence they always like the male characters better it's pure chance that women are only interesting as yaoi cheerleaders and actually when they write female characters as yaoi cheerleaders they're doing them a favour because they were just so poorly written in the source material it's the charitable thing to do men men men men men men men and if you say anything about it well you're being a killjoy you're being no fun you're being homophobic you're being a misandrist god what is it about women right what is it about women always trying to ruin our fun? why do they care so much? they're just women. who wants to think about women at all.
WAIT HELP DID I SAY SMARTS AND CRAFTS I MEANT BRAINNS AND BRAQN
ALRIGHT THIS ONES A FUN ONE
I love love love LOVE Brains and Brawn. They fascinate me. I'm asuming you mean Rise Brains and Brawn so thats what imma talk about but Tales is also an interesting case study, I can talk some about them later if yall want. Consistently through most iterations Raph and Donnie end up being my favourites, thats partially why I like them so much they lol. I like them so much that I've made them twins in both of my fan interations (tmnteh which im writing with WaffleKing and My Other Iteration)
So! Lets talk some about Brains and Brawn!
Unfortunately theres like. Close to no brains and brawn content in rise BECAUSE THE WRITERS HATE ME PERSONALLY AGHHHHH
It truly is a shame I think Brains and Brawns is one of the most underexplored tmnt duos. Theres the classing Leo+Raph and Donnie+Mikey, those are always paired up like that, we seen her we lived her we love her. Then theres Leo+Donnie and Raph+Mikey; Leo and Donnie are more seen in Rise, with a bit in Tales, while Raph and Mikey are seen in 2003, 2012 and some in Tales with Raph and Mikey constant teasing and fighting together. Leo and Mikey is rareer, but Rise has at a episode dedicated to them (+April) and I think their dynamic is more seen in 2012 if my memory doesnt fail me (i didnt pay That much attention to 2012 sorry </3) simply because Eldest + Youngest is fun to play with
Donnie and Raph? Not much of it out there! In Tales we can draw connections between them because the way they aproach family vs external relationships is very interesting to compare, but I dont think theres really an episode of Rise that explores them. We're also lacking Sunset Duo in Rise, but at least there was a scrapped episode dedicated to them (wedding smashers)
This dont mean we cant talk bout them! Theres still a buncha stuff to mention >:D
Donnie is Raph's least favourite brother. In the episode The Lair Games, Raph's lil text refers to him as his 3rd fave bro, and seeing as Raph's only got 3 bros, that mean Donnie's in last place. I dont think this is cuz Raph doesnt Like Donnie though; its because he doesnt Understand him and thats what drives the issue
Donnie is stupidly smart. Cartoonishly so it is exagerated beyond reality. This kid is out here building the most insane machinery out of things he finds in junkyards (and probably steals). He is also well read, the only brother who goes to the library and reads books that arent comics. Raph, on the other hand, is the least intellectual out of the brothers. Leo's a strategist, he's very smart, and Mikey has his moments. I'm not saying Raph is dumb or stupid, just that thinkin aint his strongsuit. Raph barges into battle with no plan other than "punch till they stop moving". He also has trouble reading, as seen in Stuck On You, contrasted with Donnie's love for it. While I think its not oficial, theres a headcanon that Donnie gets money though illegal means (such as stealing), and it IS canonical he has more money than his brothers. Donnie is also giving more "comits crimes for fun" energy. Meanwhile Raph thinks cops are there to help people. So theres that.
SO off the bat, not a lot in common between them at first glance personality wise. Then theres their phisical atributes. Raph is the big brother, brother whos the bigest. He is extremely tall and wide, he built like a tank. He's also very durable. His shell is thick, sturdy and spiky. They use his shell as a razor in Bug Busters to cut them out of Big Mama's web so you Know them spikes are sharp. Meanwhile Donnie's considerably shorter and if you look in the artbook they make a point of making Donnie skinnier in some of the drawing notes. Obviously theres Donnie's soft shell, the direct oposite of Raph's hard shell. Donnie's soft shell is a disability, we been over this, and it makes him fragile. Do want to point out, Donnie is a SPINY soft shell so his shell also has spikes like Raph's but we will get to that later
This all obviously causes issues between them. Raph sees Donnie as fragile and someone who needs protection and care. This behaviour Raph exibits is harmful in his relationships both with Donnie and Mikey; he sees himself as bigger and stronger and the brothers as smaller and less capable/younger/in need of help, so he infantilizes them and talks down to them rather than treating them as equals. We dont really see the effect this has on Donnie, as this behaviour is expressed by Raph towards him in Donnie's Gifts where Donnie is actively being cooked alive so he cant answer, but we do see it hurts Mikey. In Donnie's case, Raph's behaviour in Donnie's Gifts is ableist, as he is motivated by Donnie's condition as a "soft shell", soft describing Donnie's high sensitivity, not just his physical shell. Raph wants to spare Donnie's feelings, but in the process patronizes him and doesnt see him as the full person he is. I have an artwork exploring this ableism called "Fragile"
Aditionally, also in Donnie's Gifts, we see how Donnie views Raph's leadership style as not the best. Donnie makes him a helmet to help Raph think and come up with a plan, he dislikes the way in which Raph just tries to punch the problem into oblivion. Donnie sees himself as an intelectual and Raph cannot match his level. Donnie then struggles to relate to Raph because of how different they think and how differently they aproach things. Theyre just Too Different
...or are they :)
This is what I love about Brains and Brawns. At first glance they are extemely different characters conceptually. Not just Rise, but in tmnt as a franchise. Donnie is the smart tech one and Raph is the angry punch one. Extremely different character archetypes. However, theres SOMETHING about them that feels similar. You can play with them in fun ways, which is why they're twins in both iterations I'm working on. I can talk more about their dynamic in My Other Iteration some other time but lets talk about their similarities in Rise
First one is in character design. Raph is built out of squares while Donnie is built out of rectangles. Just in shape theory they are already the ones with the most similar shapes, thats otta count for something. Raph's square because he's like a wall. He stands strong in the way, he is stubborn, he is an immovable object. As a square, he is not afraid to take up space. Donnie is a rectangle, sharing the stuborness through shape theory, however the fact his shape is thinner means he's easier to sway and break, more unstable, less of a wall, but still fundamentally a parallelepiped. Also they both have the durag style mask, another visual similarity between them, as well as both having yellow tinted eyes
Then theres their anxiety. Both Donnie and Raph are anxious people. Donnies is ocd coded, he has the classic Donnie overthink, he wants to be always ready. Raph is also a chronic worrier; he fears for his brothers, he is anxious, moreso in the later episodes. They worry in different ways, but they both definetevely have some type of anxiety dissorder
Another fun thing is that in different episodes both become shields for their younger brothers (Raph for Leo and Donnie for Mikey). I forget the episodes but i know it happens youre just gon have to trust me on this one
As characters, I think Raph and Donnie have a lot of potential for relationships. Theres this one episode, Late Fee that has a conversation that goes
They so silly! They so silly.
Donnie: well, theres this one thing but i havent tested it yet so...
Raph: test are easy, its answers that are hard
Donnie: I LOVE YOU SO MUCH LETS DO IT
Also in Shell In A Cell, Donnie "betrays" Leo with like, no hesitation to join Raph in beating them in the ring
This is also-also just my own headcanon, unfortunately the show doesnt really explore this, but I think Raph and Donnie would get along very well with Casey and Casey could be a catalist for them getting along more. Casey and Donnie are both insane (<3) and Casey and Raph could spar together the same way Raph does with Frankenfoot. Both Raph and Donnie are quite similar to Casey and I wish we would've seen them interact with her. Unfortunately we havent because the writers hate me personally.
Point being. The show doesnt give us much to work with but theres still quite a bit between Raph and Donnie that we can pull from and explore. They are very different at first glance but actually have several things in common and i wish it was explored more. Raph helping Donnie with lab tests, them being a little unhinged together, just some fun quality time idrc how i just. I love themb
(some more interactions they have I didnt add because uhh idk. But in I THINK clothes dont make the turtle theyre playing videogames together and Raph starts to cheat and tease Donnie. Theres also i THINK its the bullhop episode where Donnie shoots a tranq dart at Raph. If I've missed any episodes that explore their relationship I Am Sorry im a bit scattered today but mention them to me and I can analyze them. Also if yall want me to talk about them in Tales or My Other Iteration, or literally anything else, my inbox awaits)
Of course it was rise lmao im dyslexic and read magnet duo so thats why i got confused
ANYWAYS! Portal duo! Rise Leo and Mikey yes yes lets see
Portal duo is one of those duos that I dont think of As Much in the context of Rise if I'm being fully honest, but theres still a thing or two to pick at. Actually we gonna explore Mikey and Leo quite a bit in tmnteh and I plan on doing so too in my Other Iteration but thats besides the point
In Rise, Mikey looks up to Leo a BIG deal. In The Lair Games, actually, during one of the interview sections, Mikey has a lil panel saying "deeply concerned about his 2nd favourite bro" in reference to Donnie which you COULD argue is a joke- but oh no no no, we taking EVERYTHING seriously in this house. If we take that Donnie is Mikey's 2nd fave bro, we also needa consider Mikey's relationship with Raph and how they're not the closests (more on that another day) so then by elimination we have that Mikey's favourite brother is Leo. Which is interesting, to say the least, as Smarts and Crafts is one of The Biggest duo with The Most moments in Rise. Mikey and Donnie are atached at the hip they are always together so its strange that Leo wins n1. However, we do need to look at the difference between Mikeys relationship with both twins
I think Mikey IS Donnie's favourite brother simply because of how much time they spend together and the way Donnie's treated by Mikey compared to the other two. Leo is the one who bullies Donnie most and Raph talks down to Donnie sometimes, meanwhile Donnie and Mikey are often on the same wavelength and feed off of each others energy. Those dont really fight. The thing about Mikey and Donnie that we need to understand later for Mikey and Leo is that Mikey and Donnie see each other as equals. Even though Mikey's younger than the twins, him and Donnie stand on similar footing, they're each others best friends.
Meanwhile, Mikey and Leo's relationship does have some imbalances. There arent many episodes dedicated to Portal Duo (the one that pops to my head is The Gumbus and thats it but I may be forgetting some) so theres not That much to build up from. However, what we can tell is that Mikey greatly looks up and admires Leo, unlike with Donnie, where they stand on similar footing. We can even try to tie this admiration of Leo with their character designs
In the s1 finale, we see some designs for how the tmnt looked as little kids. These designs are rivalred by Other tot designs that were used in a short and also apear in the artbook, but we dont care about those. what matters is the masks. In this apareance, Raph, Donnie and Mikey all have a durag style mask that covers their forehead while Leo is tied across his forehead and is just one strip. Later on, looking at the Hamato Clan designs for the tmnt, all their masks are the durag style. With that information, we can infer that the durag style is the base/orginal style mask that the tmnt wore as children, as its the hamato one, and Leo was the first to look for an alternative mask style as a child. Mikey, who also started with the same style as the other two, changed his mask to resemble Leo's because he looks up to him
This admiration and looking to to Leo that Mikey has can also be observed in their behaviour. As mentioned, Leo bullies Donnie more than the other siblings (I have taken notes on this). Can be argued its a sibling back and forth except Donnie doesnt bite back as much its this whole other issue we dont have to get into. Whats important about this point is the way that Mikey copies Leo. Leo has a snarkier attitude and is more prone to teasing, its natural of him as someone with very quick thinking and a more relaxed exterior attitude. Meanwhile Mikey apears more as just Trying To Be Cool, and who's this "cool" he's basing himself off of? Leo. Leo makes jabs at people and Leo's cool, so doing this makes Mikey cool too. We can infer this is the thought process because Raph doesnt exibit this behaviour and Leo's are more frequent, ergo Mikey learns from Leo
And it makes sense why Mikey would look up to Leo. Raph is their leader, but he's also the eldest brother and has had to take up a caretaking position for his younger brothers, which leads him to infantilize them, moreso for Mikey and Donnie. This infantilization hurts and anoys Mikey as it feels like an attack on his independence and autonomy (as seen in Hot Soup: The Game) which makes his relationship with Raph be strained. Donnie and Mikey are both targets of Raphs infantilization when Leo isn't, and Donnie's disabilities make him on-par with Mikey's youth. They're more underdog, its just them against the world, theyre equals, Mikey sees Donnie in a more grounded way than he does Leo.
Leo IS Very Cool TM, moreso for Mikey. Up until Lair Games, Leo was the 5 year champion of the game, the one with the best skills, thats easy to look upto. Leo is easy going, goes with the flow, he masks quite a bit but his faceman attitude could fool anyone. He's relaxed, not a worry in the world, efortless in his actions; at least thats how Mikey percieves him. No wonder Mikey wants to Be Like Him
On the flip side, Leo thinks Mikey's cute. He's the adorable youngest sibling so full of sunshine and joy- a little unhinged and thats ok. Leo doesn't see Mikey fully as equal the way Donnie does, but doesn't have Raph's view of the guy either; a sort of in-between. In Hot Soup: The Game, Leo is the one advocating for Mikey to go on his solo mission. He recognizes Mikey's youth and inexperience but wants to push him to grow and become a better version of himself. We see this desire to foster Mikey's growth too in Newsworthy i think it is, where Mikey dresses up as a hyppo to try catch Hypno. Leo is hyping Mikey up, encourraging him on
Mutual hyping up is an important part of their relationship. In Shell In A Cell, for example, Mikey takes the place as Leo's hypeman. Mikey looks up to Leo, thinks he's cool, wants to hype him up because of this admiration which he makes very vocal. In return, Leo hypes Mikey up too, but in a different way. Leo sees Mikey as younger and still needing to learn, so he hypes the lil guy up because he sees the potential Mikey has and wants to see him fourish
I think thats it for my main thoughts? If im missing/would like to add something new I might later, or if yawant any followup on a point yall can ask lol. I feel like i keep talkin in circles but i wanna get my point across qwq
I WAS JUST REMINDED OF YOU GOT SERVED how could i forget that one ToT I'm clearly not working at full processing power today lmao
Ok ok actually You Got Served has a few interesting things lets see
You Got Served does tie into what I said of Mikey looking up to Leo and Leo seeing Mikey as Cute Little Guy because it challenges that dynamic actually
Mikey looks up to Leo, he thinks Leo is cool, and Leo is always in first place, Leo's a winner, etc. So when Mikey is able to beat Leo it gets to his head. Mikey is a caring person, but also a selfish one, often focusing much more on himself than others, so he fails to see how the events of the episode are affecting Leo. Mikey is too caught up in his own head; he beat Leo, and if Leo's the best, it means Mikey's now the best too! Mikey is babied by Raph, so this is a huge achievement for Mikey. He acts a bit full of himself, he wants to ride that high in a way that can be reminiscent of how Leo acts in certain episodes
Meanwhile, Leo sees Mikey as a Little Guy. He's the Youngest Sibling, he's Tiny, and while Leo doesnt act the same way Raph does he still fundamentally sees Mikey as smaller, younger and less experienced than him. Theres a power dynamic in their relationship where Leo is Cool and Mikey Looks Up To Him. Leo is aware of this and actually takes pride in it. It helps his ego, having a tiny guy following him around hyping him up. So when Mikey beats him and starts gloating, it disturbs the power dynamic and fucks Leo up. Leo is deeply insecure, we know this, and Mikey being "under him" is a reasurance for him. Now, that's gone. It's same story as The Lair Games. Leo sees himself as above Donnie and Mikey in some way, and he bases his identity on this sense of superiority because if thats gone, whats left of him? In these episodes, the power dynamic is disturbed; Donnie starts winning games, Mikey starts beating Leo. Leo freaks out and overcompensates, trying to drive his brothers down to keep his self image as intact as posible
Leo wants to see Mikey succeed, but struggles with Mikey being better than him because he doesnt want to be left behind or lose relevance. This episode works well with what i've already talked about and how the dynamic works yes yes my point stands. Thanks @mapleleavesart for reminding me of the episode
Of course it was rise lmao im dyslexic and read magnet duo so thats why i got confused

Redrawing Tales screenshot but make it human designs (6/?)
Mutanimals! We seen Scumbug before, but here are my designs for Wingnut, Leatherhead and Ray Fillet. Leatherhead was extremely easy to do while Wingnut gave me more trouble, but i likr where the designs landed :]
Not to call exosexism (yes to call exosexism) but i do think its interesting that only the fun silly childish chaotic characters get nonbinary/genderqueer/genderfluid/xenogender headcanons and different pronouns while the serious stoic mature characters are cisgender or binary trans at most. Also how when a character is headcanoned as some form of genderqueer they are softened or made sillier or nicer in some way
Why cant the stoid fearless leader use ze/fae pronouns? Why cant the logical cold recluse use it/thon pronouns? Why cant the scary evil antagonist use xe/em pronouns? Why do we see these pronouns as childish, unserious and unfit for these characters? Hm?
before my egg cracked, i had noticed that trans people were often pro-accessibility and up-to-date on the needs of disabled people, but i hadn’t seen any inherent connection between the two (other than the obvious minority-looking-out-for-other-minority thing). but now that i’m trans and medically transitioning, and i have to constantly repeat myself while talking to doctors and nurses, and explain things about my own anatomy to medical staff who should already know this, and having every single problem i might have blamed on my “condition” so nothing i say is taken seriously, all of the sudden i have a little sneak peak into the life of someone who has to deal with this all the time. like shit bro, being disabled probably sucks ass, someone should do something about this
i love queerplatonic relationships where one of them is aroace and the other isn't. i love when the allo character has a crush that fades over time. i love when they don't care what they are to each other as long as they're together. i love when romance is an option that they don't choose. i love when both aros and allos feel fulfilled without romance or sex.
