Headcanon 1

Touchy feel really doesn't describe Esme- her attitude towards outward expression of love or affection is in fact fairly negative. This doesn't mean she doesn't care though, she actually is very attached to a select few, it's just a case of her not showing it in classic ways.

“A Baldwin loyalist…that sounds the most legitimate.” Cliff’s mind spun as he came up with a short list of possible Baldwin loyalists not in jail. “Then they’re even more in trouble if it’s them. Georgina catches them, she’ll kill them without even having to worry about a thing.”

“Nah, I mean sure Vera probably thinks they deserve it, but I don’t think she’d order someone to do it. Unless they did it of their own accord. Chances are it was some dumbass Baldwin loyalist trying to make a statement.”

Esme was desperate.

She promised herself she’d never come to her parents house again, and granted, she wasn’t there looking for housing, but she still hated even being near the home. She just needed some cash, and if her parents hadn’t moved their belonging around to much, Esme should have been able to snag a few expensive vases and sell them off to some interested buyers. She glanced up at the house, looking for any lights shining from the window. It looked as though no one was awake in the house, and that the neighbors were all sleeping as well.

She slipped across the street and into the backyard where the doggy door was. Her family had never had any dogs, her father was allergic, but the house came with one already installed, and their cat used it regularly enough that her parents never covered the door. She silently climbed the fence like she had so many times when she was young, then snuck through the backdoor. The little doggy door was a tight squeeze, but she made it through anyway. Her eyes adjusted to the darkness slowly, and as she glanced around, she could tell her parents hadn’t changed the house too much. Some new furniture was in the living room, but most everything else was normal.

Esme walked slowly to the kitchen and opened the top cupboard. Perfect, her mother’s china sat dusty and unused. Esme reached in and took three of the seven plates. Chances were, the mother wouldn’t open the cupboard until Thanksgiving, and she might notice the china was missing, but it would be far too late to see any evidence of Esme having been there. She slipped the plates into her bag, then backed away and-

Shit.

Esme tripped and fell with a thunk, as her family's cat hissed and ran. Damn thing must’ve walked behind her. Esme picked herself up and quickly shut the cupboard, before rushing back out through the doggy door. She ran as quickly as she could away from her parents home. She didn’t even  bother to check the bag for any damage done to the plates until she was a neighborhood away. She never returned to the neighborhood again.
