As Cap falls asleep once more their unconscious mind brings them to a wide open field of golden wheat and grass. The trees in the distance are the colors of autumn but the wind is warm and gentle as if it’s summer.

Cap let out a small huff as what could only have been described as a nightmare morphed and shifted until it transformed into something much kinder. Their new surroundings didn't push colors and smells and sounds into their face until they felt like vomiting and the restrictive leather band that was strapped around their neck had disappeared. This was a nice dream indeed.

Cap can see a bird of some kind flying overhead, slowly circling as it flies lower and lower towards them. It looks kinda like a barn owl of some kind, albeit a much more golden color than the usual light brown it should be.

The owl lands on the ground in front of Cap and lets out a small chirp as it stares up at them with bright orange eyes.

Cap stared back at the bird, and blinked a few times. Usually animals were more skittish around them but it was a nice change.

"Hello- Hi?"

Cap face palmed inwardly, as a few moments later they realized they were talking to a bird. Oh well, it was their dream after all, there was no one to get mad at them for it.

Unsure what else to do Cap resumed staring, still enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of their dream.

The owl tilts its head at Cap before flapping it wings once again, flying up to land on their shoulder. It lets out another little chirp, very gently nibbling on their ear and messing with their hair.

Cap let out a small gasp at the owl's sudden movement and stumbled back, until said owl perched itself on their shoulder and Cap made a noise of pleasant surprise.

As the owl began to muss their hair and play with it Cap couldn't help but purr. After a bit they lifted a finger and began to gently pet and scratch the top of the owl's head.

The owl makes a happy chirr noise as it leans into the head scratches, closing its eyes contently.

Suddenly there’s a familiar voice coming from behind Cap.

“Well then! It seems Citrus made a new friend, hm?”

Cap purred in unison with the owl, eyes closing in bliss, their tail swaying back and forth happily.

A very familiar voice suddenly cut through the hazy ambience of the dream, making Cap spin around, the owl- citrus fleeing at the sudden movement.

"Time-? What- what are you doing here-? You- you left me! I- why are you here- XD-? Are you okay?"

A torrent of questions flowed out of Cap's mouth, a jumble of concern, rage and joy all mixing together to form a perfectly nonsensical slurry of words.

Time grins and tilts his head at Cap’s reaction.

“Hello again! Sorry for bein’ gone for so long! XD broke the deal and so I was able to leave! However I believe I got distracted by something? Haha! And then Citrus wanted to go on an adventure and now here we are!” He say as Citrus lands on his hat, perched neatly on the antlers of his hat.

"Wh-what..?"

Cap felt their heart drop in their chest, and their stomach turn at Time's admission. They didn't care? Cap had needed him so many times and he promised to visit. And then she was free and still didn't come for months because she was distracted?

Cap had needed them.

It wasn't fair. He promised to visit- she promised to be there for Cap- why would they have made so many sacrifices for them just to leave Cap to fend for themselves

"You got.. distracted-?"

Cap curled in on themselves and sighed, not bothering to argue, or mention their true feelings about the matter. It's not like it would have any effect or help the conversation in any way.

Cap sighed again before straitening themselves out and deciding to enjoy the moment they and Time did have.

"..I'm just glad you're back."

Time’s grin shrinks slightly as a hint of guilt flashes in her eyes. However they quickly hide the guilt away as they try to make their grin wider.

“And I’m glad to be back! Once again I apologize for my absence!” The god says as the owl, Citrus, flies from his hat back over to Cap’s shoulder.

They had needed him and he left.

Cap almost screamed. Time just didn't care- here they were, grinning away like nothing was wrong. It wasn't fair-

They refuse to look her in the eyes, as they answered, attention fixed on Citrus.

"Yeah. It's good to have you back. It's fine." From their tone, Time could extrapolate that it was absolutely not fine.

Time stares for a second before his grin suddenly drops.

“Look, Cap, you don’t have to lie to me. I understand that you’re most likely… upset.” He says quietly as he fidgets with his sleeves.

Oh! I actually met Cap while they were in XD’s clutches! They were trapped in a rather dreadful maze! XD initially allowed me in there to have some fun but then I ended up befriending Cap instead! It was a very interesting experience, really. Haha! You should’ve seen how pissed the green bean was when I snatched his “toy” right in front of him!

*She gestures wildly as she talks, even skipping instead of walking normally. The god seems to almost always be moving in some way.*

Of course! Although I can’t stay longer for an hour at most due to my… circumstances. I’ll be dragged through a portal by a chain back to that boring cage after the hour is up.

Oh, and could you make sure Cap doesn’t try to jump through the portal when that happens? They’ve done so twice already and have given me quite the scare! Thankfully I’m capable of teleporting them back where they came from but I’d rather them not do this when XD happens to be around.
