Billie Eilish Admits She Struggled With Suicidal
Singer Billie Eilish is opening up about her struggles with depression, which almost led to her taking her own life in 2018.
In a sit-down interview during The Gayle King Grammy Special on Thursday, January 23, Eilish admitted she was overwhelmed by her sudden fame.
âI was so unhappy last year,â she told King during the interview as the singerâs Los Angeles home. âI was so unhappy, and I was so, like, joyless.â
âI donât want to be too dark, but I genuinely didnât think I would make it to 17,â she added .
King brought up the song âBury a Friend,â and asked if the lyrics âI wanna end meâ was about Eilishâs inner battle.
âYeah, I think about this one time I was in Berlin and I was alone in my hotel, and I remember there was a window right there,â Eilish, now 18, explained. âI remember crying because I was thinking about how the way that I was going to die was, I was going to do it.â
Eilish then admitted to losing friends who couldnât understand her new life.
The singer, who is up for a whopping six grammy nominations, credited her mom, Maggie Baird, for saving her life.
Eilish said Baird got her into therapy, reduced her schedule, and began turning down requests on her behalf.
King pointed out the star âmade it to seventeenâ thanks to her devoted momâs support.
âI did,â said Eilish.
The show opened up to a tour of the âBad Guyâ singers home. King spoke to her parents and her brother, Finneas OâConnell, 22. OâConnell is up for five Grammyâs himself.
Eilish admitted to growing up having to sleep in the same bed as her brother and parents.
Despite her success, Eilish is still living with her family.
âMy familyâs here. My dog is here. And my room is here,â she said.
