So last week I created a “cancer registry” in the form of an amazon wish list. People create registries for weddings and babies and I don’t get to do that. This is my big life event. Plus, with losing my hair, I need a lot of shit to keep looking this good, you know. The outreach from everyone has been overwhelming in the best way possible. I feel so lucky and loved. I appreciate every little thing you guys do for me.

Some chemo selfies I haven't posted
Cancer Update/ New Chemo
I haven’t updated on here in a while. A lot has happened. After chemo #10 I had another cat scan to see my progress. I knew that it would not be as good as my last report. I had been feeling bloated and I could see my body swelling. I gained 10 lbs which is not normal at all. I was right, the fluid was building back in my body; in my abdomen and lungs. This is apparently happening because the cancer I have is in the lining of these organs, tricking them into making more fluid than necessary.
The bad news is that the chemo has stopped working. The good news is that my cancer markers are still going down and it hasn’t grown or spread.
I am on a new chemo now. I go once a week. I have to take lots of steroids but I feel a lot better on it than on the other chemo. I no longer have to take the baby bottle home which is is really convenient. I’m going to lose my hair.
I was very upset at first, convinced I was dying. I keep telling myself that this isn’t what dying feels like. I get up every day, I can live my life pretty normally. I have almost NO symptoms at all except for the fluid. It could be way worse.
OH! And I had a big chunk of the fluid removed in my abdomen. The chemo will eat the rest but it was nice to get a head start. People keep thinking I’m pregnant but I was just SO SWOLLEN. They took out 4 liters. 4 fucking liters and I still have a ton in there.
I hate blogging!!!!! I hate forming words!!
maybe now that i actually own a computer i will type on here and tell everyone how much having cancer sucks
The fear of dying and depression with cancer
I’ve been obsessed with the thought of dying recently. I burst into tears throughout the day thinking about dying, people living without me, wondering if I’ve made enough of a mark on the world to die yet. I’m scared I won’t ever see the ocean again or if these holidays will be my last. I’m scared I don’t have much time with the people I love. I don’t want to die. I’m so scared. Sometimes it makes me scream out in fear, like I’m watching a horror movie. I don’t know how to contain it. I don’t know how to talk about it. I don’t know how to text someone and tell them I’m thinking about what it’s like to die. I don’t know anyone who has had to face death. I wouldn’t have understood before. People can tell me I’m young and strong and treatments seem to be going well all they want but know one knows. You can’t tell me it’s going to be okay because you don’t know if that’s true. I wasn’t supposed to have cancer, it was supposed to be benign but here I am.
Sometimes it feels surreal. It’ll hit me out of nowhere. I have cancer. And I can’t believe it. But it’s in my nature to disassociate. It’s so lonely. Everyone has busy lives and I don’t know how to approach these topics. I don’t feel like there’s ever a good time to. I wait for texts a lot that don’t come. I wonder if there’s anyone out there thinking about me at all in that very moment. Most of the time I think not. I’ve always struggled with mental illness and it’s hard to manage that and cancer. Sometimes I feel like I’m worthless and don’t deserve to be loved and taken care of. Sometimes I don’t want to take my medications. I lay in bed all day and I don’t know if it’s because I’m depressed or I’m fatigued from cancer. I wish I had a partner, one person to depend on, but I know with my illnesses, it would be impossible to have one. I don’t know if I deserve one. Sometimes I’m afraid I’m going to die alone. I’m not ready to die. I haven’t accomplished anything I’ve wanted to but I also feel like I’m starting to give up.
I turned 25 last week. I had the most amazing birthday party I could have asked for but when I got into bed (at 4:30am) I couldn't help wondering if it was going to be the last birthday I ever had, and if it was, it was a perfect last one.
I feel like I can taste chemo in my mouth at all times even know i know it's just in my head
Having cancer means if I have a fever I just can't take Tylenol. I have to wake up my parents and have them drive me all the way to Manhattan in the middle of the night because my cancer center isn't open and I can't go to my local hospital because they don't know what to do with me. I was still connected to my baby bottle. We didn't get home until 4am
