❛ nĭhăo, ranma ! ’ shampoo's ecstatic greeting is followed by shouts of terror, a loud crash, and the terrible sound of tires screeching dangerously across pavement ( as well as an entire teenage body ). she makes a swift u-turn before pushing her feet back against on the brakes, nekohaten's trusty delivery bike skirting to a hard stop just a few hairs away from where ranma lay completely flattened on the ground. oblivious to his suffering - or at least, so she would claim - shampoo drapes her arms along the bike's handlebar with a giggle. ❛ you know what i saw the other day? ’ she teases innocently, twirling a soft strand of her hair around a dainty, little finger. ❛ that stupid pig-boy training hard to defeat you, ranma! i'm surprised you haven't finally beat him for good already... ’ shampoo drones on as she subtly begins to do what she does best: be a messy instigator.
❛ hmm. maybe ranma just isn't as strong as i thought? ’ she says unnecessarily loud in thought, a fake pitying tone dripping from her every word. shampoo can only give him a lazy, sympathetic shrug, ❛ too bad. so sad ! ’ // @2isms ᓚᘏᗢ

a few shampoo portrayal notes:
i. will write her as having somewhat stilted grammar but not broken english. people more qualified than me have spoken about the issues with sinophobia in the series / manga + anime industry in general and the new dub has gone out of its way to correct that where it can. shampoo uses 'i' and doesn't speak in third person as well.
ii. despite her introduction showcasing her as the strongest in her village and a pretty threatening character, shampoo's never really treated as a serious rival fighting wise - especially compared to male characters. that won't be the case for my portrayal. while i'll align with canon by having her be interested in ranma due to her village's laws, there is one thing that shampoo will always love more than him: fighting and getting stronger.
moving to japan isn't solely to be closer to ranma; she also does it because she's outgrown her village in terms of skill. she can't be fully satisfied knowing there's further challenges out there and to become the strongest woman in the world, one has to expand their horizons.
iii. i saw a good post in the tag ( too lazy to refind, sorry ) about how it's odd that we don't see ranma and akane developing new techniques together more or him learning more from her family since they're a branch of the same school. i've only skimmed through some of the manga so not sure if it's different there but it feels like some of the most noteworthy battle arcs usually involves ranma learning from a new teacher, ex. how both him and ryoga both learn from cologne.
it kind of touches on the first point again: a lot of the chinese characters and their culture ( which is mostly just a lot of chinese 'mysticism' / stereotypes ) is often used as a backdrop for japanese characters' progression. there's a lack of equal exchange, ie. we don't see other characters learning from genma or soun - which feels like a massive, missed opportunity! one of the rivals trying to train at the dojo would be a recipe for a disaster in the best way possible. anyway, the point: if the show won't do it then i will!
❛ hmph. you're pretty strong. ’ hell is freezing over and global peace is now on the horizon because the impossible has now become reality: shampoo of all people has given akane a compliment. the amazon is boredly filing her nails from where she sits perched on a window sill when she says it, her legs crossed comfortably as she bounces her foot to a cute tune she was making up in her head. ( all while blissfully ignoring akane's many, many attempts to get her to leave of course. ) shampoo originally came to the dojo for one specific purpose: to feed her darling ranma...but he sadly wasn't there ( because her 'darling' had been busy sneaking out upon hearing her voice at the front door ) so she simply waited and waited - faithfully guarding the dumplings that greedy, nasty panda kept eying.
watching akane train became an easy form of entertainment while she waits...but it was also a rare chance to observe her up close in action. still, shampoo can't manage to give a compliment without it being well, slightly underhanded. her bright red eyes narrow with mischief, an innocent smile growing across her pretty face before casually flipping some of her thick hair over her shoulder.

some shampoo thoughts taken from something old i wrote: i know ranma and his fiancées is played up for laughs but it’s also an aspect of the show that i can never fully get into despite it being a big part of it. ( i honestly enjoy the crazy antics the characters get themselves into on a day-to-day basis then the girls fighting each other over ranma personally. ) i'm not on twitter anymore but when i was and was excitedly looking for shampoo content after the new anime started airing...it was just ship wars or people hating on her ( or akane ). i'm not here for that personally! so while, yes i do like ranma x shampoo ( and most of the ships in the fandom in general! ) i personally value character relationships > over shipping so yeah.
