President Eisenhower did something similar in 1954 as well. It was disgustingly named “Operation Wetback”. Over 1,000,000 people were apprehended in just the first year. If I’m not mistaken I believe it went on until around 1962.

My best friend’s grandfather came home one day to find his family had been “repatriated” and as a result he was effectively orphaned at the age of 10 or so. He didn’t find out until DECADES later that he had siblings who were trying to reconnect.

Not 100% the same but in the 90s a cop arrested my dad while he was talking on the payphone and deported my dad, just becuase he didnt have his citizenship papers on him. My mom was left alone with my, at that time, newborn brother not knowing what had happened to her husband. It wasnt until days later a cousin was contaced through payphone and able to take my dad his papers and brought home.
