Out of curiosity, how do you go about planning dates with your FOs that don’t necessarily feel like… just doing nice stuff by yourself? I only pulled of something that felt satisfying once (We had Sushi and watched Knives out and it was lovely) and I would like to know if you just… keep talking with Ford in your head or if you surround yourself with stuff that reminds you of them or if theres anything else? Also this is not me asking for a concrete guide and I’m aware it’s gonna be different for everyone, just selfshipping curiosity is all

I thought about this, and I realized that, for me, it's not something I have to put in effort for because I'm just really good at imagining that Ford is with me. Just, like, in general, no matter where I am or what I'm doing.

That said, the things you suggested are things that I do! In addition, doing a drawing/writing a fic/etc. about the date before it happens may help, as you can imagine things going the way they did in your preemptive depiction of it!

so remember how I was talking about how I wanted to be able to go a day without weed? a few days ago, I just decided on a whim to do that, and I made it! I made it through the whole day!!

There were these little food plushes that Ford got me as rewards for when I get through a day, four days, and a week without weed (there’ll be a larger reward for a month without it). I got to pick one for doing that and I chose one that’s in the shape of a boba drink!

I’m trying very hard and Ford is helping.

tbh you actually weren’t THAT far off from reading it in an autoromantic way!

“f/o” is short for “fictional other”, a term modeled off the phrase “significant other”. it’s used by self-shippers (i.e. someone who “ships” themself with a fictional character) to refer to the character towards whom they hold their affections.

however. while this isn’t a sentiment I’ve encountered WIDELY, I actually think self-shipping is comparable to autoromanticism in that, in both cases, the individual is providing love and affection to themself and is satisfying their desire for closeness with themself.

self-shippers (including myself) may go on “dates” with their F/O or buy gifts that their F/O would like or that their F/O would give them, akin to taking yourself on a date or buying yourself a romantic gift for yourself, as occurs in autoromantic relationships.

I’ve told people about how my self-ship is, to some extent, an act of self-love (as I headcanon my f/o as being very similar to myself in a lot of ways and relate to him heavily), and some of them have agreed that it sounds like a form of autoromanticism but with the “middleman” of the fictional character who is a stand-in for myself.

I’m really glad my writing was able to give you such comfort!

When you’re stressed your f/o is always there to jump to your side and help grounding you, maybe they run their fingertips across your knuckles or maybe they do breathing exercises with you, counting to ten with you “hey focus on me sweetheart, you’re doing great.”

You also help them so much!! They always want to hold you and be near you when they’re stressed, when they need to calm down they think consistently of you, trying to name all the things they like about you. Your hair, your face, your eyes, your skin, the touch of your lips, the sound of your laugh all of the above can calm them down from anything.

Together you both let each other know that nothing bad can possibly happen to each other, no matter what your intrusive thoughts say!

I told my mom about self-shipping today and that I do that, and she thought it was really cool, especially when I told her about how familial/platonic/etc. relationships are also a big deal in the self-ship community, not just romance

although she did not ask what character I self-ship with and I did not mention (it was incidental to something else), so the next time we watch Ford’s source together, she will Not know how abnormal I am being in my head
