You paint planes of the face perfectly and like ... how? hahaha. Any tips?

Thank you! it's been a long painful road haha. Breaking photos down into planes and learning the underlying anatomy can help you get a better feel for it. Also very much recommend looking at expressions + faces outside your norm. It helped me a ton to understand the underlying logic and I feel a lot more confident with portraits overall.

Also finding your landmarks right off the bat really helps. I've ended up using something like this (red lines) as a framework for basically all of my portraits. Having a solid simplified base that you can refer back to when things start getting wishy washy is very nice.
