Stepping outside the bit for a moment, it does make me genuinely sad that so many people don’t know about Cecil or Welcome to Night Vale, and not in a like nostalgia way, in a “dear god all of these queer teens are missing out on a core part of our media history and that’s awful” kind of way.

Like I am not lying, Welcome to Night Vale really was fucking groundbreaking queer representation that was, and still is, widely loved FOR A REASON!! If you legit have never heard of it, please give it a listen!! It’s a stellar, diverse podcast full of heartfelt moments and fantastic humor and good ol’ horror that’s made me cry and laugh and helped me get to sleep when I’ve been having horrible anxiety more times than I can count, and on top of that I will never be able to describe how, in 2012 when all of the big mlm ships on tumblr were us cringey little queer teens desperately praying for something deep down we really thought we’d never get, breathtakingly refreshing it was to listen to the FIRST EPISODE and hear Cecil openly admit to being in love with another man like it was the most normal thing in the entire world. It was everything, it really was.

Yeah, Cecil got sexy-maned all to hell and we can look back on that fondly and critically, but Welcome to Night Vale was to podcasts what Korrasami and the Ruby/Sapphire wedding were to cartoons and the absolutely dismissive tone a lot of people are using when talking about it breaks my heart. This isn’t just about remembering our sexyman roots, it’s about remembering and loving a revolutionary piece of queer media that was REALLY POPULAR like it was on fucking NPR, sold out shows, best selling books, the works!! Welcome to Night Vale changed the landscape of queer media, proved in it’s own corner that stuff with queer people in it COULD sell and find wide audiences! Like this was coming out back when fucking Glee was the standard for gay rep, I’m not kidding, Night Vale was everything.

It was, and is, loved for a reason. Cecil is winning on tumblr FOR A REASON. You deserve to find out why.

I’ve been meaning to get caught up for a while, but I’ve heard that it’s still just as good and queer as ever, so if you’re thinking about giving it a shot you aren’t just in for something that’s been over for a while, you’re gonna keep getting plenty of new content as well! (And that’s not even mentioning the books and other tie in stuff that’s out there.) I haven’t been on tumblr for quite as long as a lot of people but over several years I’ve noticed this interesting gradual sorta,, shift in the general culture? that it went from this mostly depressed, nihilistic outlook where people would regularly joke about hating themselves and being hopeless and depressed, to a wave of vehemence of “STOP hating everything actually the world is Good and you deserve love!!!” type posts, to now, where those aggressive ‘PSAs’ have faded away and instead I regularly see people romanticizing simple things like stars and hot tea and rainy mornings, and waxing poetic about their friends, and just trying to put love out there. and I don’t know exactly what that means (someone who knows more than me could probably say something smart about generational expression and trauma or popular perception of mental health and whatnot), but I do know that it makes my heart very full to see people learn to love the world and themselves by extension, and a whole userbase adopting healthier coping mechanisms, and therefore teaching the younger users to do so as well. I might just be following different people, but I really do think we’ve grown. everyone has grown. five years ago it wasn’t unusual for the next post on my dash to be a scathing commentary on why nothing matters or an anon ripping into someone they barely knew or someone complaining about how pathetic their interests are. now I have mutuals who get excited and spam reblog art of cows and friends I see tagging each other in pictures of frogs and strangers writing paragraphs about how much I matter. it makes me happy. idk. just an observation I wanted to make. I think people are good and everyone’s just trying their best at the end of the day

There was a new movie coming out that was a gay romantic comedy about an assassin falling in love with the guy he was supposed to kill. The only thing I remember about it other than the premise was that the assassins supposed victim/love interest was going to be played by Daniel Radcliffe.

A mini series (actually a movie released in chapters) with a similar plot to this actually exists (except it’s not starring Daniel Radcliffe). The two main characters are a hitman and an assassin who meet “by accident” in their free time, and they fall in love, but everything is not what it seems.

Unfortunately, due to pirating and illegal sharing of the movie, the small company who made it only made about 1/3 of the production cost as revenue and they lost their main investor due to that, so hopes for a sequel which was considered are small.

It’s a really good movie, with good directing, writing and acting, so if you’re able to purchase it on Vimeo (link is here), I encourage you to do so, it’s only 12$ if you rent it and 13.33$ if you buy it and it’s more than worth it!
