Initializing Reboot.
"Just a little. But I didn’t leave your grave on it’s own. It’s not like some unkept depressing grave you see in cemeteries" He snorts, bringing his antennae up to rub against Nivens face in return. "It’s hardly sad to look at when it’s anyone else but me."
Nivens grinned and gave Abs a gentle kiss on the lips. "Well it doesn’t have to be sad for you anymore either. You are stuck with me, Mr." He snuggled close with a sigh of complete contentment.
I found an old Chatzy log where everyone was being fish and the ground and the hammoc and lube while Nivens and Absolem were trying to get it on...
*is laughing so fucking hard right now*
Initializing Reboot.
That might of explained why they were different to him, “I would rather it not have to happen again.” He smirks, and starts to chuckle. “Perhaps…we should invite everyone,” It’s the loudest laugh he’s had in a long time. ” And celebrate your return by removing your grave?”
The sounds of Abslem laughing made Nivens relax a bit more. He ran a gentle hand over the caterman's cheek and smiled. "Sure. Sounds great. Though I have to admit, I’m a little curious to see it, I mean... not everyone gets to see their own grave, huh?" He paused a moment. "Wait, that was probly kind of morbid, huh?"
Initializing Reboot.
"Nearly a year Nivens. Much more to me." He wraps his antennae around those ears. How long had it been since he’d tasted those? They tasted the same only slightly different. Maybe because he’d become unfamiliar to them? Forgotten? Not likely.
"Don’t you ever do that to me again." He let his shoulder slump. He felt like he could relax for once.
Fuck... a year. It had felt like the blink of an eye to him. He had stopped existing, and then he did again. "I'm so sorry love."
Nivens gently guided his slumping mate over to the couch, and set them both down. He wrapped his arms round and tucked the caterpillar under his chin, protective, gentle. "I don't think that same thing can happen again... " he wiggled his ears experimentally. "The reinstall program put in solar panels it should take care of battery issues."
Initializing Reboot.
Now he had a reaction. This was real. This was an actual event happening in his life. One of his most important people in his life was alive again.
"Nivens…I…I don’t even think there are words for anything I’m feeling right now. Or for this.” His arms automatically put themselves around the rabbit. The caterpillar broke down. “I missed you so much.”
Nivens held Absolem close, placing kisses all over his forehead and cheeks, one after another in a gentle rain of grateful affection. "I don't know what to say either." he whispered, tucking the caterman closer still and just... relishing the feeling of being close.
There was one question he had to ask but was a little afraid to. "How long have I been gone?"
Initializing Reboot.
Those antennae of his had been actively upright. Tasting the air. But now they were limp and shocked. There were no words for what he saw. Who he was seeing in front of him. How could one even properly react to something like this? The answer was probably nothing as this wasn’t something people experienced on a regular basis.
At least Absolem wasn’t familiar with it if he was he’d probably be surrounded by his entire family.
'no' was the first thought. No, with the intent of meaning 'how? why? and what?' And so many other reasonable questions to ask someone who was previously 'dead' and now isn't dead and is standing in front of you. Different but still very much the same. Silence was the second reaction. Instinct reasoned that exploding poison was also a good idea because of the surprise but forceful logic pushed that down for once because exploding poison suddenly during something like this was far from being a reasonable reaction.
Tears of joy, was the chosen reaction. The need to touch the person in front of him was strong but not put into action because part of him was still unsure if this was real at all or again, another hallucination.
"Nivens?"
The rabbit was on his feet and wrapping himself around his husband, moving on instinct before he could think. His face was buried in Abs's shoulder. The caterpillar smelled the same as ever, smoke and spice and home.
Nivens had no idea what had happened, the last thing he remembered was that be was going to die because he had been dumb and tried to just... live off grid, but somehow it was fixed and here he was and here was Abs and... he just hugged tighter.
"Don't go. Be real, please. Fuck... I can't... this can't be heaven. It's too real." He babbled.
How many times did I edit that one?

Initializing Reboot.
He’s definetly not afraid of it now. But he’s more curious as to what the light wants and why it’s there. Why is it talking about Nivens?
Why does the light feel familiar? Why was it making him feel lighter inside? His heart beat a little faster and he felt anxiety for the result of….whatever the light was doing.
The lights swirled in what seemed to be random patterns for a few moments more, then began to organize themselves into a faint silhouette. First a head, shoulders, sturdy but not too broad, down the slight torso, then the legs, and the feet.
"Base program installed, installing plugins."
A pair of tall pointed ears shot up from the head in a shower of sparks contained by the box, and a faint pulse of green threaded itself throughout the shape.
"Opening saved files and memory stores."
There wasn't much outward change, just... a slight change in posture and... a faint glimmer on the left hand, still indistinct.
"Analyzing error report -- Recommended fix -- solar panelling --Installing."
A glimmer shifted over the ears of the shadowed model.
"Install complete. Initializing reboot."
The shadow quivered, and lashes of electric energy like lightning lashed around the inside of the box, obscuring the shape from view. there was a rumble and a shake, and it seemed the thing was going to explode, except it didn’t. Instead it popped, like a bubble touched in mid air, and there, panting on the floor, his ears now tipped in black solar cells, was Nivens. He looked up at his mate for the first time in over a year, wide eyed, and his mouth fell open. "Holy Fuck."
Initializing Reboot.
The caterpillar had known something had entered his home before it had made a noise. But was’t sure how to deal with it. And even less sure now that it spoke to him. So for a very long time. He was silent. Studying the small light.
For a while during the silence he had questions. But wasn’t sure he wanted to ask them, afraid of the answers. Nothing about the ball was threatening ( maybe blindness if he stared directly at the light for too long).
Eventually he lit his pipe, crossed his arms. and said quietly, almost whispered as though he didn’t actually believe there was a thing in front of him and that he might just be tired enough to hallucinate white fireflies.
"Permission granted."
The mote waited quietly as he thought, hovering in the air like a hummingbird. When he spoke, it dipped once, It's light flickering, creating the impression of a tiny bird excitedly flapping its wings.
"Permission acknowledged.
Commencing scan ---"
A gentle light poured from the mote and slowly scanned from the top of Absolem's antennae to the tips of his toes, then back up. The light retracted, and the mote turned from white to lavender with another soft "ping!" It circled the caterpillar once more, then did another dip in midair. "Thank you for your cooperation.
Data retrieved.
File Nivens.tar.gz complete.
Commencing reinstall."
The mote broke apart into four bits, each spreading out to create a box bounded by shafts of light, about six foot tall and two foot by two foot wide. The air within shimmered in cascades of blue and lavender sparks.
"Please wait while install commences. Program will be ready in a few moments." The same humming voice thrummed out.
Initiatiing Reboot.
On the grid, things tend to move fast... Except for when they don't. Automated processes, timed searches, scheduled tasks, waiting for the time they are designated to go off. Sometimes they go on even after their creator is long gone.
In an old warehouse, on the edge of Tron City, in the darkness of an abandoned room filled with artificial mushrooms, broken neon flowers, and a funny little cottage, a scheduled process turned itself on.
It was a tiny thing, resembling a firefly. It buzzed up to set on the glass leaf of an artificial tulip, and began to blink preprogramed code.
"Initialize -- TimelyMctwisp.exe
File not found
Searching for error report...
Error report found -- Cause of deletion -- Battery failure
Reinstall Commencing
Searching component files ----
TimelyWhiteRabbit.exe downloaded from repository
Jet.gr.jar downloaded from local storage
Failed to fetch -- Nivens.tar.gz -- file not found
Searching outer storage."
The tiny mote flew up, out a broken window, high over the city, and then up and out of the grid altogether. It circled the stage of the Mad T Party, Pausing in the DJ booth, on the rim of the cup, blinking.
"Partial files found -- Searching Security Mainframe
Files found -- Reconstructing -- Not enough data to reconstruct
Searching--"
The mote rose from the lip and buzzed off towards the portal to Underland. Following the error report coordinates, it arrived at the caterpillar village just as night fell soft across the hills and homes and gardens. It settled, blinking cheerfully, in the garden of one, Absolem Ibnazerak, wise blue caterpillar, pianist, and member of the caterpillar council, (weather or not he actually got along with that particular bunch of stuffed shirts notwithstanding.)
"Searching...partial files found
Files 90% complete.
Searching..."
The mote took flight, startling a couple of actual fireflies in the process, then zoomed into the open window of the house. Once within, it began to scan the objects for the final pieces of data it needed. When it scanned the caterman in the living room, it let out a soft "ping!" and flew in for a closer look. It buzzed around his head, glowing with white light, scanning to be double sure. But it had protocols when it came to taking latent data left on sentient beings.
"Permission to scan data pertaining to program Nivens.tar.gz" it churred at him, a computer monotone overlayed with a faint hum.
((So yea... Having a fit of nostalgia over here))

All in a Golden Afternoon (Absolem/Nivens) (RP group setting)
AN: So, this was a request from my favorite Caterpillar RP, for their Nivens. I’ve always enjoyed the RP blogs, and these two have been insanely fun for me to watch over the past few months. So, I’m glad I was asked to do this. :) Even if it broke my heart. World setting is for their RP, and sadly I had to attach a character death warning to this one. :( Onwards and outwards, Enjoy.
All in a Golden Afternoon

And ever, as the story drained The wells of fancy dry, And faintly strove that weary one To put the subject by, "The rest next time—" "It is next time!" The happy voices cry. Thus grew the tale of Wonderland: Thus slowly, one by one, Its quaint events were hammered out— And now the tale is done, And home we steer, a merry crew, Beneath the setting sun.
The glitches started slow. Absolem didn’t notice them at first, just a vague blurb in the back of his mind that the white rabbit was a little distant. The fact that Nivens was a program never really came up these days. Life was actually flowing somewhat happily for once.
Absolem truly felt as though this might be what happily ever after was all about.

Absolem lay resting in the hospital that Dorchadas had brought him to, After the attack from the Dilophosaurus that left him clinging to life by a thread and without a left foot. It was quiet in the room, save for the sound of his unlabored breathing and he heart monitor. The doctors had to...
Nivens came in late that night, out of breath and looking panicked. He came rushing into the room, and he would be out of breath, if he breathed. He stopped dead still before the bed. "Oh my god... you.. you're ok... thank users!" he fell to his knees by the bed and took Abs's hand. "Don't you ever scare me like that again."
timelymctwisp said: “Well, You’re the handsome I can do this to…” he reached up and tugged down an antenna to kiss playfully. ” someone’s been handling parsley.” Absolem licked his lips.
“Nope.” Nivens grinned deviously. “I got caterpillar safe parsley flavored hand creme.”
” oh you’re too kind bunny.” Absolem reached to give one of the glowing ears a yank
Nivens shivered at the momentary sensory overload of having the circuit ears handled. Only Abs got to do that... and for good reason. It was downright sexy. he smirked and snuggled up close, plastering their bodies together and going in for a kiss.
