When the former general had noticed the disturbingly familiar figure in front of him, he was quick to act & didn’t give the other much time to defend themselves. Seeing someone that looked exactly like him triggered one unpleasant memory within him, one he and Ratchet had to deal with together. Never again was another ‘copy’ to ruin everything they had struggled to overcome for years.

During the fight Alister did notice there was something different in this other Lombax than in the copy he and Ratchet had to deal with before. Their moves were just as controlled as his own, maybe carried out with a bit more finesse but otherwise they were almost equals. Leaving out the fact the copy seemed just younger than him.

“ Where did you come from ? “ his voice is so rough it’s more of a demand than a question.

Being a high ranking general was no easy task, the weight of the title followed you everywhere on a planet like Fastoon. However one of the perks of the title was that no one hardly asked you any questions and little to no introductions were needed before the doors were opened for him to the research center he approached. Surely he wasn’t there just on a afternoon stroll but actually looking for something, or rather someone. 

Politely he greeted some of the other officials on his way before finding a familiar figure in one of the rooms. With a light tap to the other male’s shoulder he tries to catch Kaden’s attention before speaking. “ Could I borrow you for a second ? I need to talk. “ he nods at the direction of the door.

Woken in a cold sweat, his heart racing overbearingly fast... Ratchet discovered his partner was not in bed with him as he had promised to be joined with. The trembling wouldn't stop, and he couldn't breathe well. It caused him to search for Alister, dragging the blanket with him that he folded himself into. Feet carefully walk down the stairs, calling out a soft "Alister?" here and there as he attempted to figure out just where the elder had gone. It didn't take long though to spot him (was he sleeping there elsewhere?) in which made his blood boil. Why was he continuing to avoid him? Especially in times he needed him most. "Alister! Why.. why are you not in our room with me?" he says, trying to keep his voice low as to not wake the others - but there's a sense of hurt and even anger in his tone. Was that due to everything piling up, or from the nightmares that was scoring at his brain right now? Perhaps, it was both. (bad side AU baybeeee)

Ratchet wasn’t the only one that had been woken up against their will that night. It wasn’t that often the elder would get nightmares nowadays but whenever he was stressed they seemed to come back without fail. This night’s nightmares were more vivid than usual, taking him all the way back to his younger days. Familiar faces flashing at rapid speed, faces he knew were now long gone and buried under the crumple Fastoon once was. The last thing he hears before being jerked awake is a far too familiar manic laughter Alister has heard one too many times. 

He doesn’t make a sound as he sits up but his breathing was far from even. Swiftly he places his feet on the ground, hands resting on his thighs, eyes closing as he takes a few deep breaths. A practiced method to calm himself. In & out, In & out he breathes, before his heart rate calms and his eyes flutter open to the almost pitch black room. Finally his head turns as he laid eyes upon the Lombax still sleeping quietly next to him. 

While the elder would have wanted to pull the other male close to his chest, he couldn’t bring himself to even touch him, his mind telling him this was all going to be negligible soon. The Great Clock was almost in his possession, no point in trying to hold on to this reality when it was about to be fixed. Besides it wouldn’t be fair to Ratchet to only reach out to him only when the elder was at his worst. He can get over it.

He stood up from the bed, grabbing a shirt from on top of a dresser as he knew sleeping would no longer be an option for him so might as well use the time he had in his hands before the rest of the residents of Razz repair would get up. Again a brief glance was cast into Ratchet’s direction before he would make his way downstairs. Finding his way to the nook he had all his notes scattered around soon had him fully immersed into figuring out the details to his mission. His mind however was not as sharp as he was still a little shaken form his nightmare but also from the lack of sleep. Maybe laying down for just a short while could help-

He wakes up to the rather aggravated Ratchet calling out and staring at him. Trying to come up with an explanation he knows telling the truth to the other Lombax would only complicate things for them more. He didn’t want that. “ Thought I could try finishing this tonight. ” He lies and points at the direction of the notes. “ Must have fallen asleep before I could make it upstairs. “

Alister: My hunger, to be honest with you—

Ratchet: Incorrect. The right answer was my dick. Let’s kill two birds with one stone!

🌿 -   ❝ Phylax… sector? ❞ Her face told it all: she had no idea what it meant. Water, Earth, Sky - and for a mouse two first were familiar. The third, was almost equal to magic: mysterious, far from reach. Whenever wings of a crow took her off - she’d yearn to feel the earth under her feet again.Here, she was still standing solid. ❝ To me it looks like sky… beautiful night sky. ❞ The craft might have been full of wonders but the window drew her towards itself. The closer she would walk, until her mirror image reflected clear on its surface. The lights moved - or rather, they did.

 ❝ N-no. This is my first time… inside this kind of a box. In sky… ❞ She turns around with a nervous chuckle - not sure if it was something to be embarrassed about in his place - but for sure he also spoke tongue she barely understood. ❝ Back at home on foot… Here, I haven’t gone far from our settlement. Where would I ❞ A sigh.

He couldn’t remember when was the first time he had traveled out of Fastoon, his home planet, for the first time. To him there wasn’t much excitement in moving between planets, sectors or even galaxies, he was actually more thrilled about having some company even if it was just a temporary thing. 

Their current location was a part of Polaris Galaxy he was somewhat familiar with and he definitely wasn’t going to waste the opportunity to share some of that knowledge. “ Space is full of wonders and places to explore — Phylax is mostly just filled with moons. Five of them in total. “ He points briefly to their right at one of the giant orbs. “ Some other sectors consist of bigger planets and even more moons. Those surely offer a view more captivating than these outskirts. “

A light chuckle escapes his lungs. “ This box is Perihelion, my trusty star ship. She’s been the most company I’ve had for a while. “ He pats the panel behind the steering wheel, pausing for a moment before before he turns at the other again. “ So where do you come from exactly ? “

     For a moment, the younger lombax is left there sort of speechless. To him, it felt like Alister didn’t want him around at all.  Not just because he was busy… not just because he was stressed… though Ratchet couldn’t quite put his finger on why.  He hints at it though in the unsaid — hears it in the tone he’s given and how Alister can’t even look him in the eye anymore.  What was he not telling him directly?

     ❝ What’s more important than this? ❞     he challenges after a moment, his voice lower than before.  It’s clear he’s starting to sound… defeated.  However, he does force himself into the elder’s sight once more by stepping in front of the desk, his brows knit in a slightly concerned expression.     ❝ I need to help you, just like we originally planned.  So- what’s the new theory?  You have to tell me what’s going on, Az. ❞     As he utters the last bit, Ratchet’s voice barely escapes in a murmur as he stares up at Alister, his chest beginning to tighten.  Why was a part of him starting to feel — desperate?

Alister had always had a bad temper and the younger Lombax continuing to question him did the opposite from calming him down. He groans before Ratchet has time to finish what he’s saying, almost cutting the younger off. “ You’re making this far more complicated than it needs to be. “ Alister pinches the bridge of his nose, bringing a glare and dropping his voice into a serious growl, followed by an irritated flick from his tail.

“ I suggest you listen to this — I am going to figure this out, fix time with whatever the cost is.  There are details which I’m not sure about, meaning it’s better I deal with this alone. I am very tired and the faster I can finish doing this the faster we can forget about all of this ever happening.  You should understand how important this is and I should not have to argue with you  — I don’t need you anywhere near this mission and I don’t need your help. “  At this point he was far too into fixing his own mistake to realize the damage his words could cause.

“ Now, can I get back to what I was doing ? “

Maybe you should invest in flour. You work, work hard and sometimes you feel like that’s all you can do. That it'll never pay off. But there’s no greater feeling than to see the joy you bring to others, to see them succeed with the tools you gave them. You may not be a leader, but a leader’s spine, shoulders, ribs. You are the dawn before the sun. It’s sweet, too sweet, but it’s better than nothing. You are endless golden fields, salt of the earth, and the lives of all who devour it.

For 5 seconds I forgot how much I love Alister’s voice so here lemme just remind you all about this trailer.

     “This”… he knows what Alister is saying — they’ve discussed it once before that life as they knew it would have never happened.  But Ratchet had been under the impression this whole time that despite it, they would have remembered it all.  Everything they went through, the lessons they had learned… all in order to lead better lives with their kind — together.

     But it seemed Alister failed to tell him that wasn’t the case sooner.

     ❝ I know all of that, Alister!  I just.. — I just thought that even if this version of our lives didn’t happen in the end, we’d still remember it when we traveled back to the present. ❞     Is this why Alister had been so stressed?  But, then why wouldn’t he have told him anything about this before?     ❝ Didn’t you say that those who used the Clock to travel would have a memory immunity..? ❞

Alister wanted to believe they wouldn't be able to remember their current timeline as it would save both of them the trouble of explaining. There were some people the elder couldn’t even dare to face in this current state. Ratchet’s father being one of them. “ It was my original theory, I’ve learned more since then. “ he replies with a wave of the hand and with a calmer tone. He was not that interested in talking about the details, this had to work. It was the only way.

Shuffling through some of the papers Alister’s focus was back in what he had been doing prior to Ratchet’s arrival. Since when had talking to Ratchet felt this bothersome ? Finding the words to say was a struggle. “ Don’t you have something better to do ? “ than keep bothering me. But the last part never leaves his lips.

With how much he had been roaming the land when he first woke up here, he had managed to run into quite a few places by accident, it was rather strange how quickly the terrain changed within small distances. Alister however didn’t have time to process the details further, he needed to find a way to get off this planet. Return back to fulfilling his own promise to himself, fix time.

There’s a halt to his steps as he hears the voice. With a brief glance to their direction he could determine this creature didn’t seem hostile, at least not yet.  “ What is this place ? “ He asks, eyes shifting back to stare at the direction he was headed before.

     The sharp words stuck at him like knives, right through his heart, as he realized just what Alister was saying.  Ratchet’s face fell as the tips of his ears flicked back ever so slightly in his surprise.  It was so unlike Alister to just.. snap at him like that - and that alone tore at him.

     They’ve talked about the effects before… but he had assumed his future self would temporarily exist in the past just long enough to save his family.  Yet, what the elder was suggesting…

     Now they met gazes for the first time since Alister arrived, and it made Ratchet feel so cold.     ❝ … w-what are you saying — that I won’t remember you after all this is done? ❞     The young lombax’s head was reeling ; trying to configure the hidden meaning behind it all.  His voice rises unsteadily as he takes a somewhat desperate step forward.     ❝ You don’t know that!  When we go back in the past, who says we won’t be there as our present selves?  Someone has to know to stop him, right? ❞

“ Neither one of us will remember any of this ! “ And that was probably for the better, it never was supposed to happen in the first place. The one loosing more in all of this was actually Alister, but he owned this to their kind & to the universe. If sacrificing his bond with Ratchet was the cost to fix the messy reality they lived, Alister was willing to make it. 

An annoyed huff escaped his lungs, accompanied with an eye roll. “ Even if we went back as our present selves, even for a moment, all I need to do is deny Tachyon from getting his hands on our technology ! Once that is done, all will change  —  You are not an orphan, I was never exiled, and this ” he motions between them “ never happened. “
