Ashley Kneemueller Creative Statement

Inspired by street art, impressionism, and surrealism, I explore the border of reality in which things are just wrong enough to be unnerving, but normal enough to real. Much like the absurdity of dreams, my works recall a sense of adventure, a familiarity with places one has never been to, and an unspoken knowledge that there’s something we don’t know that is about to impact our fate. Human interaction and impact on the environment, gender and sexuality and their roles in society, and self-image are themes I examine as a form of expression for myself as well as impose introspection on the viewer and their interactions with themselves and their environment.

Bailey Gillin-Malott Creative Statement

I try to touch on topics that the public often turn a blind eye to. It’s very easy to become desensitized because of our interactions technology and media. Reading an article about the severity of controversial topics around the globe is often dismissed because those topics do not have a personally correlation to our lifestyles. I hope to create artwork that encapsulates these topics to evoke an emotion response. My goal is to inspire those who see my work to understand there are people in need and act together to help create a thriving environment.

Alex Barber: Creative Statement

I’ve always enjoy the creative road trip that occurs throughout the construction of something visual. I indulge in exploring skewed perspective; there’s something interesting in observing how lighting, color, and expression can alter an audience member’s takeaway from any given piece. I want to push those takeaways. By creating art, I want to create visual experiences that reflect first glances that need double takes. To me, art challenges how to create something visually unique that only the synapses in your own brain can output. In making and observing art for a few years, I have come to play with subtle human mannerisms. I try to push motion, expression, and body language beyond what can be expressed without a visual element.

My encompassing goal is to create something visually stimulating. While creating something impactful or inspiring is always hoped for, I want to capture my own unique perspective. I want to challenge others to take what they have around them, and create their own visual skew.

Peyton Steiner - Creative Statement

I have always had a natural passion for art and design whether that be drawing, painting, or graphics. However, I have never referred to my work as art but more of a past time that I allow my mind to drift and create a composition of abstract thoughts. My work uses imagery and design to stimulate the creative meaning behind the use of lines and shapes while being aesthetically pleasing to the viewers eye.

My biggest flaw when it comes to art is wanting the artwork to be perfect which causes me to not want others to see my work. When I do show my work, I want others to find a completely different meaning then I had once intended when I first created the art piece and leave the meaning up for interpretation. The sudden movement to social media has enticed my knowledge and boundaries for my artwork platforms and mediums. My work has evolved as I have progressed as an artist older and hope that it continues to evolve into something more creative and artistic.

Through art I hope to explore, discover, and create. While I am relatively new to creating my own pieces, I want to use my artistic opportunities to express who I am and what I believe. I have always had a passion for learning and improving, and I am excited to utilize this to grow artistically this coming quarter. Whether I express my passion for outdoor exploration, my interest in media and its societal effects, or my commitment to the feminist movement, I hope to create art that embodies the beliefs that propel me.
