Lðunn Marie , the 22 year old assistant to
Sehna . A timid Nurse in training .
born on a small outer mining colony orbiting a dying star. The colony was quiet, practical, and harsh a place where children learned early that survival meant helping each other.
Her mother worked in the colony clinic as a medic, and Lðunn spent most of her childhood sitting quietly in a corner while patients came and went. She was a timid child, soft-spoken and nervous around strangers, but she watched everything carefully.
Her mother used to say:
"You don’t have to be fearless to help people. You just have to stay ."
Lðunn believed that.
Then the Quiet Rapture happened.
The stars vanished. Entire worlds went silent overnight. The colony’s supply lines collapsed within weeks, and panic spread faster than the darkness outside their orbit. People began leaving in whatever ships they could find.
Lðunn never got the chance.
The evacuation ships filled before her family reached the port. The riots that followed tore the colony apart. By the time emergency crews arrived months later, Lðunn was the only survivor in her residential sector.
Her entire family was gone.
She never spoke about what she saw during those months.
Lðunn was relocated to a larger orbital settlement where refugees were processed and reassigned to labor programs. Because of her mother’s old records, she was placed in medical training.
It was meant to be practical.
A quiet girl who followed instructions well. Someone gentle with patients.
But Lðunn had a problem.
Blood made her sick.
The moment she smelled it her hands would tremble and her vision blurred. She would grow pale and dizzy, sometimes needing to sit down before she fainted. In a hospital, that was a serious weakness.
Most instructors told her to quit.
She refused.
She kept practicing. Cleaning wounds. Preparing instruments. Standing beside real nurses even when her stomach twisted. She learned breathing techniques, grounding tricks, anything to stay steady long enough to help. She wasn’t brave. But she stayed.
When the AT-5 expedition was assembled, they needed any medical personnel they could get. The mission was desperate sending a convict in a submarine into an ocean of blood on an alien moon.
Even the support ships were understaffed.
Lðunn was barely qualified, still technically a trainee.
But she volunteered. Not because she believed she was ready. Because people were going to get hurt. And someone had to be there.
On AT-5, Lðunn quickly became known as the quiet one.
She spoke softly. Rarely started conversations. Often kept to the corners of rooms while others talked. Some of the crew thought she was too fragile for the job.
But when someone was injured, she moved immediately.
Hands shaking, voice barely above a whisper but she worked carefully and gently. She remembered every procedure she had studied. She never abandoned a patient halfway through treatment.
Even if she had to sit down afterward to stop herself from passing out.
Many of the crew began calling her “Kid” or “Little Nurse.”
She never corrected them.
Lðunn carries a quiet grief that few people notice at first.
Everyone she ever loved died during the collapse of her colony. She never had a grave to visit. No last goodbye.
Helping others is the only way she knows how to keep going.
Every patient she stabilizes feels like saving a piece of the family she lost.
Even when the ship feels like it's falling apart.
Even when fear claws at her chest.
She stays.
