The Adventures of Joan the Babysitter

Yet another installment in @max-is-tired and I’s Kid Sides AU!

Words: ~300

Warnings: Sympathetic Remus and Deceit, mentions of electrocution, swearing

“There’s got to be a… cure, right?” Thomas asked. “I mean… I feel the same. I’m still me, but what happens if I’m separated from them all for too long?”

Joan looked around at the kids circling the room. “Do you still have Lilly’s number?”

“Lilly? Uh, yeah, she said she’s in town.”

“Perfect. You go talk to her,” Joan said, “I’ll stay here with the kids. And, uh, snake.” Deceit slithered into their hands.

“Are you sure? It’s, uh there’s a lot of them and-”

“Thomas, I’m your best friend. I think I can handle the aspects of your personality.”

“Thomas is leaving?” Roman asked.

“Only for a little bit,” Thomas said. “I’m going to make this better.”

“You better,” Virgil said, his brow furrowed and his face twisted in anger. “You better fix this, Sanders.”

“Virgil, I-“

Joan snickered, slapping a hand over their mouth. “I’m sorry, it’s just- He’s way too cute to be scary.”

“I’ll break your kneecaps, Stokes.”

“VIRGIL!” Thomas yelled but Joan only laughed harder. “That’s very rude!”

“So is you leaving!” he yelled before storming off in anger.

Thomas sighed, rubbing at his temple. “Virgil’s right, I should just-“

“Virgil’s twelve, being angry is basically his job right now.”

“Yeah, but he needs me.”

“He needs Lilly. Go, talk to her. I’ll watch over the sides. Virgil will be fine without you.”

“Okay,” Thomas said with a sigh. “Okay. I’ll call you in an hour or so.”

“Good luck, Thomas.”

“Thanks.” And with that, he left.

“ROOOMAAAAN! COME GET ME A FORK I WANT TO STICK IT IN AN OUTLET!”

And with that, Joan knew they fucked up.

It was a solid two hours of running around Thomas’s apartment before they had gathered everyone into one room. “Okay, okay,” they said. “Role Call.” The sides stood in a line- Remus and Patton both fidgeting- with Deceit nestled safely in Remus’s hair. “Logan, Remus, Dee, Roman, Patton, Vir- Where’s Virgil?”

The sides all exchanged a glance.

“Guys, this isn’t funny. Where’s Virgil?”

Remus looked down at his nails nonchalantly. “He went out.”

“WHAT?!” Joan and several small children yelled.

“Out,” Remus said. He looked up at all the shocked faces before him and let out a giggle. “Whooopsieees.”

“I’m… starting to think this was a bad idea.”

Logan stopped in his tracks, pinching the bridge of his nose as the summer air made his tie flap in the wind. It fell down to nearly his knees but it was the one thing he refused to part with. “This was YOUR idea, Roman!”

“Yeah, well, everyone knows preteens are idiots!” Roman shot back, his prince outfit drowning his body.

“Oh please, Roman, don’t belittle an entire age range because of your own lack of brain cells.”

“Why you little-!” Roman tackled the child to the ground.

“GET OFF OF ME YOU OAF!” Logan screeched, kicking but unable to get Roman’s weight off of him.

Virgil rolled his eyes, squeezing Patton’s tiny hand and nudging Thomas’s side. “Found them.”

Thomas sighed as he saw the two screaming at and hitting each other. “Definitely them.”
