Encanto, I need more!

Does anyone else feel like we need more family members’ songs like I would have full on loved a Camilo identity crisis song. 

Honestly I love Encanto with all my heart and it’s probably my favourite Disney film, but there’s so much more we could of had from it! Like a song about Dolores talking about how she could here bruno and not being able to talk about it because the family isn’t allowed to talk about bruno, or even a song from Pepa (with a possible felix verse) about how abuela’s always telling her to calm down and ‘control her gift’ when really she just wants to embrace it.

I just feel like we need an Encanto 2 going into more of the family.

Mirabel’s “Waiting on a miracle”

I’ve watched Encanto 5 times now, and intend to watch it more this film is gorgeous and I love the Latina representation, the songs are everything and each song stands out to me in it’s own way. (If you don’t want to read all the paragraphs just skip to the bit in bold near the bottom.)

But for this post I’m going to talk about “Waiting on a miracle.” Mirabel (the main character) sings this amazing song after she sees the family taking a family photo with out her and not even her parents realise she’s not in it. On to the song, this is what I feel is Mirabel’s ‘I want’ song. She sings about how she doesn’t have a gift like the rest of the family and she’s being waiting on a miracle, like the one the family got given years ago, to come give her her gift so she can show the family what she can do. 

In the song it’s basically foreshadowing half the movie, like how she talks about how she would move the mountains, make new trees and flowers grow. This foreshadows later on in the movie where the mountains crack apart and when she fixes the house she makes the flowers and trees in the village and on the house grow. She also talks about how she would heal what's broken, show this family something new. The healing what's broken foreshadows her healing the families relationship with Bruno and herself, especially the one with her and Abuela. When she talks about showing her family something new this foreshadows when they start to build the house together that they don’t need there gifts and they’re more than just their gift.

But what I really want to talk about with the song is that how good it could be for a villain arc song! Like I get it it’s a kids film and all but I would have totally lived for Mirabel to become this villain and at the end of the film the family admit that they were wrong and they all do that fix relationship thing like Abuela and Mirabel did, and she’s forgiven because that would make a really good film! But that’s an alternate universe kinda thing, the things that live in fanfiction on ao3 or wattpad. 

The song is just so beautiful and I wouldn’t mind an Encanto 2, Disney, maybe going into more of the families insecurities, because we know so little about some of the characters. and that having a song about their gifts we’d learn more about them
