It’s really wild to me how ppl are like “america is becoming fascist” as it’s never been fascist before. What would you call a country that wrote “all men are created equal” as slaves toiled away? What would you call a country that had legally established segregation on the basis of race? Forcing groups of people off the land they’ve known their whole lives to reserved plots? Internment camps? The bombing of unionizing citizens? The forced eviction of townships to demolish and pave over their homes? There are many instances of cruelty where if you read about happening in some other country, you’d feel your stomach turn in disgust. But since it happened in the good ol’ u s of a, it’s just y’know a complex historical event.
