On Vacation for 2 Weeks

(I am boiling hot in this weather but all of my drafts and greeters are done. If I'm missing anyone, please tell me. My activities page isn't working right for some reason).

Hidan turned her attention away from the map she’d been trying to make heads or tails of (just where was she supposed to go to meet up with her partner, again-?) upon hearing a light, bubbly voice greet her. Oh- but it was just a young girl, huh? She looked pretty cute, too. Though even young children could be deadly shinobi, Efina hardly looked threatening, which would make her a poor sacrifice or fight. She responded casually, “Hey. You need something?” Nothing the creature in the girl’s arms, she curiously wondered, “What’s that thing?”
The lady had pretty eyes. They were just as, if not more, dazzling as the jewels Efi's Papa traded for info or food. Those eyes watched the dragon with curiosity as the lie wriggled and screeched in her arms.
"I diD NoT STEaL!" The little lie squealed and Efina took another bite out of it to calm it down.
"This is a lie I found crawling around in a store. Sorry they're so loud but I can't fill my tummy with anything else," The dragon explained as she chewed. It was bad manners but Efi had remembered it was five times out of eight. Just not this time. "And as for what I need? Nothing really. I was just wondering who you were. Lots of people wear funny clothes but not as funny as yours. Where do you come from?"

It hadn’t been his intention to frighten her. His words were borne out of his own musings —— scattered thoughts being threaded together through voice, cerebrations, words strung along by his loose tongue. Had his focus been entirely on her, and not halved between his work and their conversation, he likely would’ve softened himself. Created some roundabout story in which monsters came from the sky to gobble up children that ran away from home.
Uta sighs. Places the mask back on the work table.
She doesn’t answer —— he sees a small motion in the darkness; for some reason, there was a particular collection of that darkness around her… and with a sniff, Uta thought he could smell ozone. Could almost imagine the crack, snap, rumble of both lightning and thunder. But that held a particularly ridiculous vein to him. They were inside. It wasn’t raining.
Uta usually tries not to lie. And… it wasn’t a lie, not really.
Half-truths, he believes, are not lies. They aren’t truths, either —— but they’re the middle-ground that he settles for here. Telling the truth would asphyxiate her little girl’s mind, he thinks. And she would no doubt be unappreciative of knowing she shared a room, now, with a m o n s t e r .
( a monster who hid from other monsters. the truth was —— they were all monsters here. no one —— not anyone —— was in the right. )
“I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to scare you.”
There were scarier situations that Efina had been in. She had wandered a dark town while a ravenous wolf lurked and narrowly avoided murder. The dragon had fallen far enough to fracture bone, ending up stuck in a locked basement while monsters appeared intent on spilling blood. Efi had faced down and eaten deadly beasts that no one else could fell.
Why was she so afraid now when she was in a safe haven? There should be no reason to.
But then again, all of those times in the past, Efina's Papa was always within reach.
'Come on! Buck up! How are you going to protect your Papa if you're scared of monsters you haven't even seen? You're a dragon. Not a weenie.'
"You don't need to say sorry, Mr. Nice Man," Efina said in a considerably brighter tone after having swallowed a gulp of smokey air. "If you hadn't told me, I would be in a whole lot of trouble. I would get sliced into a big Efina-sandwich by those monsters and no one would be left to protect my Papa."
Of course, to protect her Papa, she would still have to go outside. The dragon wasn't sure if she was ready to walk out just yet. It was just a gut-feeling but Efina didn't think it was a good idea to leave.
The last time she got a gut-feeling, one of her Papa's business partners died.
'Just a little longer and then you have to go.'
"Uh, Mister? Can I ask you another question?" The dragon chanced, now that they were face to face. "Your eyes are really pretty. They look like one of my friend's. Are you maybe a not-human, like her?" Using the word vampire would have been too forward. Both them and dragons were supposed to keep their identities and existences secret after all.

"That doesn’t sound like a good word, Mister No-Face."

"Hello!" The dragon chirped as she hopped towards the girl, curiosity piqued and a smile wide on her face.
"You look really pretty, lady! My name's Efina!" While the little blonde was always one for new friends, she was especially excited today. "What's yours?"

It was a bird, and it was attracted to the fire. Said bird was a raven, had three legs, and what appeared to be an eye on it’s chest. It had perched on a nearby branch. The bird was staring intently at the dragon, while the third eye was focusing on the fire.
When it opened it’s beak, instead of a hoarse caw, the sound a of a girl’s voice could be heard. "That ain’t how you cook fish. You gotta be more precise wit’ the fire, and make the fish that nice colour."
The talking bird fluttered over to another branch, closer to Efina. "Ya know, that kinda brown-y and just before it turns into a blackened crisp… either way it’s yum."
"Talking birdy!" The exclamation could be heard over the roaring flames engulfing the ashen fish and the shrinking log. And what a funny looking birdy it was. Efina had never seen crows with three legs or a third eye. Maybe it was her lucky day.
"Aw, if I had you around sooner-" The dragon slowly swiveled around to glance at the smoldering stump. Cringing, Efi looked back up to the crow, dejected. "-Papa would be eating yummy fish and telling me that I'm the best but now I gotta get another fish."
The flames made a sharp crackle, as if to say that they were still there.
"And maybe do something about that. It doesn't look safe...But first, who are you, Miss Birdy?" Popping back to her usual peppy personal, the dragon hopped closer to the crow. "My name's Efina."

That was one huge guy walking around. Efina thought that she had been alone on the beach but apparently that wasn't the case.
What's that thing on his head? Is it a horn?
With that question in mind, Efina trotted over to the man.
"That," The dragon tapped the top of her head. "Is that a hat on your head?"
If I dipped my lollipop in chocolate, would you eat it?
"Only if I get to toast it first. Never tried that before. Then I’ll ask my Papa first before I eat."

The girl’s words made him remember of his past long distant when he too looked up to his old man, squawking about the fact that he wanted to be just as strong as his father. In a way, the bounty hunter could understand and appreciate the sentimentality of her words. However in the end, a kid was just a kid.
"I’m sure your dad’s fine, kid." Sol spoke, "Don’t rush yourself t’be strong either, jus’ take it one day at a time. Pushin’ yourself too much is just gonna hurt you."
"Hn, I don't know about that, Mister," Efina twisted her lips as she thought about her Papa. Sure he was a tough guy but the dragon was sure that one day, his lies would catch up to him. The child just had to grow up and be strong enough to help him before it was too late.
"Papa is...He's not a pushover but he can't...won't be able to do everything by himself," Casting a glance over her shoulder, Efi made sure that no one else was listening. She'd get a big bap on the head if her Papa found out. "Can you at least give me some tips?"

"Yes, even I am a bit impressed with the selection available here." Odea was a bit dazed himself, verdant eyes immediately darting towards the chocolate dipped strawberries, as well as the tiramisus and panna cottas. Turning around, he noticed the dipped apples, and the girl’s immediate interest in them.
"Oh, but of course! Which one strikes you in particular?"
The grasshopper walked over, eyeing the display and shifting an emerald gaze towards Efina. She was indeed starstruck, awestruck—and any other form of the word just by being here. That made a smile curve onto his face, one of genuine satisfaction and happiness.
"I prefer the caramel ones myself, but please. After you."
"I've only tried one caramel before," The dragon noted as she cautiously approached the gold display shelves holding the apples. Each had a clean sheen to their sweet shells and Efi leaned close enough to the glass that her nose almost smudged the surface. "It got stuck in my teeth and it took Papa forever to help me brush it out. But these look just so tasty!"
One of the caramel apples caught her darting eyes. It was engulfed in a layer fresh layer of caramel, white confection, and coated with cinnamon and brown sugar. To Efina, the candy seemed to glitter.
"Can we share that one first, please?"
"If you want, I could slice an apple up for you," The store clerk offered from behind the counter. "It would make it easier to eat and share with your Papa." Though there weren't many similarities between Odea and Efina appearance wise, the clerk assumed that the dragon just resembled her mother more.

The little girl looks almost as lost as he does. ( almost. )
Although Kazuma had never been… one for children —— something about them got under his skin just from sight —— he could tell that this one was particularly… upset. And there was something… about that look that makes him approach her, h e s i t a n t l y.
”D-Do you… need help?”
Turning her head left and right and back again, the dragon could not recognize which direction she came from. Efina's Papa had told her to go play but being lost was no fun. Both had underestimated how huge the place was.
Acting like a disoriented owl had grabbed someone else's attention and the dragon looked up at the stranger.
That was some real pretty hair. Like a juicy green apple! How does he see through it?
"I think I do," Efi replied, the perplexed lines on her face disappearing for the moment being. The child was excited that someone would come and offer help but at the same time, it looked like this stranger was about to high tail it out of there if she so much as sneezed. "I was playing and I got too far from where my Papa and I are staying. Are you from here?"

Uta’s head tilts to one side —— he was examining a piece of the pleather, raising it up to another section. He was unsure if he wanted to piece them together, or work on another piece. He thought of the zipper that was a part of Kaneki’s mouth, and wonders if that same aesthetic philosophy could be applied to eyeholes. It would have a certain… macabre effect.
Did it work with the client?
He shook his head. No.
The girl’s question doesn’t reach him after a moment. When it does, he places the pieces back down. Continues stitching away at one of them, wanting to add a few more minute details.
How to answer that?
Uta’s hands move quick; finishing one whipstitch, beginning another. “Monsters… these monsters look…”
( like you and me. )
“They have… weapons that can rip me in two.” The Quinque are more monstrous, than kagune. Of this, Uta was sure. “And they… think it’s okay to use them.”
Fight fire with fire. Who came up with that?
She seems a little upset, and for the first time, his head turns to look at her since she walked beside him. He still was unsure of how to deal with children —— but he speaks to her a bit more softly, voice cushioned by care:
“Are you alright?”
As Efina waited for an answer, the dragon noticed just how loud the man's work was in a place that was otherwise dead silent. Every brush of the man's fingers against the material boomed in her ears and the soft rustling outside made the child glance at the door. She knew the sound came from down the road but it worried her nonetheless.
The smoke was beginning to build around her little head, clouding her vision and gathering on the ceiling but Efina's mind was too far from her to notice.
The black cloud grew thicker when the man's reply came.
It was noticeable that the nice man was dodging her question. It was like how her Papa would answer a completely different thought that was somewhat related theory in hopes that Efi would be satisfied and quiet down without the real one.
So the monsters had cruel weapons that they used without a care but what did they look like? The nice man still didn't answer that unless...these beasts were so horrifying it was impossible to describe? Or what if they were invisible? That was even worse!
Invisible terrifying beasts that could whip out there weapons without a moment's notice and cleave innocents in half for seemingly no reason at all.
It was time to take her Papa and live underground for the rest of ever. Or get him to buy some masks from this man, not that her Papa would believe her story.
But could those masks really protect people from the monsters? Just hiding your face would protect you from being killed? Efi could hardly believe that unless the nice man used magic in his work.
Having noticed the dragon's discomfort, the man turned to her and asked if she was feeling well. Suddenly self-conscious, Efina finally realized that a pillar of smoke was billowing out of her head and she quickly wafted away as much as she could.
Efina had meant to give the man a clear and steady answer but all that came out was a harsh cough and another puff of smoke. She settled for nodding instead.
Her answer was a lie and the blonde knew but sometimes lying was okay. Troubling the man when he had kindly let Efina stay in his shop wouldn't do at all.

All he was able to do was laugh at being called ‘captain’. While it was true that he was the captain of the swim club, it was just a title that he had been given because he was the most responsible of the group. However, his humorous look on his face soon turned to something that conveyed a bit more confusion as he looks down and tilts his head to the side.
"Oh? You’ve never seen someone swim before? Well..uhh…I swim backstroke…so you jump in the water and swim with your front looking upwards and swing your arms back like this."
Trying to help her get a better understanding of what he meant, Makoto starts to pretend to swim in mid air. It was definitely a lot more awkward than in water, but for pedagogical purposes, it would have to do.
"It’s.. a bit hard to explain, I suppose…."
Captain Makoto's demonstration made the dragon giggle and it was hard for her to picture anyone doing that in the water. There had to be more to it but maybe Efina would understand better if she saw the Captain and his crew swim and let her try as well.
Splashing around in the water sounded like a lot of fun. Clumsily, Efina tried to copy the Captain's movements. It looked more like she was trying to look like a windmill and ended up almost falling on her face again.
"You make it look easy, Captain Makoto." Efi pouted, wanting dearly to see her new friend's amazing skills for herself.

"That depends. If what you say you are is a threat to me and my plans, I’m afraid I would have to deal with you hear and now, to ensure that my employer cannot be harmed by you.
But, if you are not a threat…I could take you under my wing, so to speak…Ahahaha.~ I could teach you many things…Many very useful things.”
Don’t listen to the shark, Efi bae. Run. Run far away. And maybe hit between the legs, for added effect.
A threat to his plans? Efina had no plans on being that but exactly what were his plans? If it had to do with something terrible, the dragon couldn't just leave him to it.
"I don't really need another teacher, thank you very much. I have my Papa already," The dragon spoke evenly but her growing fear was evident in the slight shake in her shoulders. Not only that, but little puffs of smoke were drifting out of her mouth as she spoke. "But I don't understand how I could mess up your plans? What are they anyways?"
