odea is a praying mantis

I know that some of you know this already. I know it’s not even that big of a deal, but I personally feel like I should let everyone know. 

So no one mistakes him for a grasshopper. So no one makes a roleplay blog for him and builds his character on the misconception that he is a grasshopper. So no one makes all these headcanons and theories based on a character invalidation. SO NO ONE SPENDS A YEAR ON MISCHARACTERIZING HIM LIKE I DID.

I’m sorry, but I’m still angry at my mistake.

And while I recognize that it was my fault that any of that happened, I’m really just wanting to do this for everyone’s sake. ( There have been no Odea blogs that make him out to be a praying mantis. None. )

This is probably one of the most insignificant things you’ll read today, but if you’ve got time then I’ve got words.

Before any of the explanation, for those that don’t know who Odea is, this is him. While he isn’t on the official Poison Bugs character list, he interacts with Tsumuri quite a bit and more likely than not exists in their universe.

Just looking at him, you can already mistake him for a grasshopper, right? 

Anyways, the first and probably biggest sign that he’s a praying mantis is his name. Odea. The scientific name for the praying mantis, get this, is Mantodea.

Mantodea. 

That’s already a sign he’s a praying mantis, in reality. 

Then, there is the fact that praying mantises are carnivores.  Grasshoppers, conversely, are herbivores. 

And a major identifier of whether or not something is carnivorous is their teeth. Sharp teeth are used for cutting into meat, flat teeth for grinding plants. (As human beings, we’re omnivores, so we have both, right?) 

Well, look at this picture. 

First, poor Odea. 

But look. He has sharp teeth. Herbivores can’t have fangs.  He’s a carnivore. He’s a praying mantis!

And, concerning this picture, Tsumuri is implanting a horse hair parasite into Odea. A parasite which, you guessed it, praying mantises tend to be inflicted with. 

Also, praying mantises are known for their ability to twist their heads nearly 180 degrees ! (some can go further.) 

LOOK AT HIM HIS HEAD IS ALMOST ALL THE WAY AROUND HIS BODY.

And, sadly, the last point I had, I don’t seem to have a picture for -- it was a drawing of Tsumuri and Maimai, but there was a third character in there. A giant, green, praying mantis. Unmistakably so, it was Odea. 

So, in short, Odea is 95% a praying mantis. Not a grasshopper. If anyone plans to roleplay, Odea, don’t make the same mistake I (and several others tbh) did. And kudos to those who already knew and had to deal with everyone else’s stubborn headcanons of him being a grasshopper.
