An angry cat, haha – this was a test to learn how to paint a solid black background, something that’s actually super hard to do with watercolor-like mediums even though it sounds so simple!  I think I’ve finally solved this problem though ~ the trick for me was to use my regular winsor newton gouache for the kitty and holbein acryla gouache for the background (in colors jet black for the bg itself, and permanent white for the fur edges and whiskers).  Winsor newton doesn’t have quite the right coverage for a solid background, and ink dries too “filmy” or shiny, but now I’ve finally found a method I like, yay!  Expect a whole lot more solid black backgrounds from now on! ✨
