Mutual Benefit - Statue of a Man
When I get an instant message from one of my favorite song writers, my bud and all around great dude, Jordan about how he’s got a new song for me, I become as giddy as a little school girl. The dude’s got it. I never have to fret whether or not I’m going to like it. I’m gonna love it. I haven’t even listened to a song by his musical adventure Mutual Benefit where I’ve said, “Wow, this is sh*t”. Instead it’s always “Wow. This. Is amazing.”
Here is how Jordan describes how this song came about: “Statue of a Man was written while on a 22 hour train between St Louis and Texas late last year. I was feeling sad and excited at the same time to be changing towns all the while being hypnotized by these midwestern environments whizzing by in the observation car.”
If you’re heading down to SXSW this year come hang with me and a bunch of really genuinely awesome people watch Mutual Benefit along with so many awesome bands at a showcase being put on by 3 of my favorite record labels Father/Daughter, Gold Robot and Small Plates [RSVP]. The line-up is out of this world and I will be nerding out all day thinking to myself, how did I get so lucky to be here in this moment.
