“Whenever i see my skinny friends call themselves fat i can’t imagine what they think about me” is the post and “i of course always agree with them that shuts them up” is the comment and i have issues with both.

i understand the insecuity that comes with statements like this but i think when someone calls themselves fat it’s an opportunity to comfort and educate, especially because the skinny person already probably feels bad about themselves. it could help to name the feeling what they’re actually feeling to learn to stop associating that with fat and to help work on that insecurity. in 99% of cases “feeling fat” doesn’t mean you look down on everyone else who’s weight is higher than yours, it usually just about the own mind and body. in the end, that person is your friend and if that kind of thing happened to me, i would want to help them that neither them not i get hurt again.

and even if the bigger person doesn’t have the energy to be educating or comforting to a large extent, the least you can do is be kind to the skinny person. someone being skinny is not a free pass to be cruel to them and imo saying something just to “shut them up” will not help anyone, it’ll just hurt their feelings. it won’t teach them to name their issues, to get a neutral look on the word fat and it probably won’t strengthen your relationship with them.

in the end, of course, anyone can do everything. this is just my opinion and my opinion is to be kind and help your friends if they make a mistake and to not purposely make them feel worse about themselves.
