#IDrawThisBig I do rough sketches tiny, about 5" wide for a 20" spread. This allows me to draw lots of variations and keeps the design down to basic shapes, so nothing gets too fussy. I love this step because it's all about exploring possibilities. Then I choose a favorite sketch and do the final line art in pencil, anywhere from 50-75% of finished size. This enhances the pencil texture for a nice, crusty line when it's enlarged to 100%. Then I print it at 100% on appropriate paper and do all the coloring in whatever medium is right for the subject.
