I've picked up where my father left off in his endless quest to become the King of Mediocrity. I've inherited quite an awesome responsibility!

Hi, I was thinking of founding a Center for Mediocrity at my university, do you have any objection to the name? Once established, we may call upon you to visit us and put forth the Principles of Mediocrity for today's college students. We were thinking of getting a mediocre art student to establish a logo. Thanks.

Just a Center of Mediocrity? There is already an entire University of Mediocrity.  They are working between the hours of 10 and 2 to lower the bar to just above knee level and making the Standards standardized.  Sound like a place for you?  Well you've gotta act quickly because the online classes are filling up!

I miss you most of all this time of night. I've spent the best nights of my life with our arms and legs intertwined or your ass pressed up against me and you feel so small with my arms wrapped around you or your head carving out a perfect niche in my chest. I've woken up with a numb arm more times than I can count :-). I love missing you. I love waking up and feeling alone or not being able to sleep at all. I love that 10 days without you is torture. I love that if you aren't with me my experiences don't count. I love that I don't have time to play my guitar (the first thing I bought on time when I was 18 my mom co-signed $125). I love that I hate eating my own meal. I love missing you. It beats the alternative. It beats not being fazed by it. It beats loving someone a lot (ISFLY, baby). It beats not having a soulmate, not knowing what pining feels like. Show me someone that vacations without the love of their life and I'll show you a young woman that wouldn't know what ISFLY was if it was tattooed on her neck. Show me someone that doesn't get turned by his partner's passions and I'll show you a man that is more concerned with the sex he isn't getting than the sex he is getting. We deserve to be this lonely. Good for us! It beats the alternative.

One of the bands I tour with, Black Tusk, includes a carpenter, a landscaper and a bartender within its ranks — all of whom are heavily tattooed and terribly well-read. My friend Elizabeth Cline just published a book on sustainable fashion practices — and plays in Mortals, a brutal all-female sludge band based in Brooklyn. I’m writing this piece for NPR, and just got a massive tattoo of a goat’s head on my right arm in tribute to Swedish black metal gods Bathory.

Something very simple; yet something very deep. Perhaps a unique way to look at a common problem, but don't offer any solutions.  It should let people know that being good is...umm...good!!! Oh, and you should cut this out and tape it onto your computer to remind you that being good is.  Better yet, find a grainy black and white photograph and use this to caption it and post it to facebook, twitter or tumblr.

- Someone from an oppressed minority who sees things more clearly EVEN though he/she has less than we do.  No. Let's go with an author that had his/her shit so together they killed themselves rather than to go on living in such an unjust world
