These vases made of recycled cups literally GROW thanks to mushrooms! It's not magic, it's biodesign!
What's the secret? Used coffee cups are collected from coffee shops around London, shredded and made into a paste infused with mycelium, the root system of mushrooms. The mycelium in the paste feeds off the organic matter of the coffee cups and grows into a vase! Nothing goes to waste here, with each vase keeping 42 coffee cups out of the landfill!
With 500 BILLION difficult-to-recycle coffee cups trashed every year, 'Lovely Trash' vases could be the kind of thinking we need! Though, we'd much rather see @starbucks ditch disposable coffee cups for good! 🙏

This shirt turns into nourishment for plants when it gets worn out 🌱 🐛 #shirt #fastfashion #biodegradable #sustainable #decompo
Canadian-Iranian designer Roya Aghighi wants you to imagine your shirt is alive and hopes that people can develop a more intimate relationship with fashion – treating clothes like living things that need our help to survive! 👗🌍

Named Biogarmentry (@biogarmentry), the clothes are a proof of concept for a textile made with living, photosynthetic cells. Aghighi's biofabricated textiles are living organisms that respirate by turning carbon dioxide into oxygen.
To make the fabric for Biogarmentry, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, a type of single-cell green algae, are spun together with nano polymers. The result, which feels like linen, is "the first non-woven living and photosynthetic textile" ever created.
Wearers will need to take care of their garment as they would a plant in order to keep it alive, rather than engaging in the environmentally destructive practice of making synthetic clothes and discarding them after a few uses.
Biogarmentry is activated by being exposed to sunlight. Rather than wash their clothes, the owner would just need to spray them with water once a week.
After the user is finished with the garment, it can be disposed of via composting. Currently the textile is expected to live for around a month, but this period can be extended if it is cared for properly.

Wipes are NOT for flushing! 2 football fields' worth of them clogged up London's sewer, and it's more common than you think!
Baby wipes, wet wipes, pre-moistened towelettes... whatever you call them, they're a BIG problem. How big? Wipes are responsible for an astounding 93% of sewer blockages in the UK. So what's going on here? Almost all wipes contain plastic that can't biodegrade like toilet paper, and even the wipes advertised as "flushable" definitely aren't! Switch off of these wipes immediately and find a compostable, biodegradable option, or check out reusable alternatives. The toilet is for pee, paper and poop only, folks!

Hundreds of boogie boards were removed from the sea thanks to @oceanrecoveryproject! Croyde Bay is a popular UK resort, but the styrofoam threatens marine life who can easily ingest the non-biodegradable particles. Is it time to ban these bad boys in favor of sustainable eco-boards?

compare.
So, I’ve seen this statement online for some time now. I believed it too, used it in my essays as a “shocking” statement to open with. But as I’m digging deeper for my dissertation, I am yet to find where this fact stemmed from. There is no credible scientific source, just a lot of different facts & figures being used❗️
Truth is, the fashion industry is so fragmented that it is impossible to know for certain the % of its pollution and ranking. Breaking this statement down, what does it mean by “polluting”? Chemical pollution? Waterway pollution? Air pollution? 💨💧
Where do we stop measuring? Because leather is a byproduct of agriculture, the energy used to transport clothing to stores, the electricity in the factories. It is complex.
So, what's my point? Surely it doesn’t matter how it ranks; whether its 2nd highest or 12th, right? Getting the facts & figures right is crucial if we as anti-FF advocates want to be taken seriously! Especially when it comes to policy making.
We know how bloody awful the industry is - so let’s keep spreading news & articles & keep the conversation alive. But we need to do our research if we’re going to throw facts n figures around. Some useful articles below:
This post was inspired by the articles below & @slowlyerin who wrote a really powerful post on this a while ago!

So after days of pleading with other countries to spred awareness about the current situation in Serbia, a tweet with a video showing police brutality got spread:
And a lot of the responses were:
Apparently only problems worth talking about are those of first-world countries. And it seems that to a lot of people Europe will always remain just England, France, Germany and Italy. And let all of us living in small countries oppresed by totalitarian regimes rot ig.
I am sick of this selective activism.
And Fuck America.
Serbia’s leader, Aleksander Vucic, is very similar to Trump in that he is more of a TV person than an actual educated politician. I think the two are even friends, or at the very least Vucic looks up to Trump.
Their issue regarding police in Serbia stems less around the BLM movement and more so around the pandemic and the country’s response to it.
When the pandemic began, they imposed what was essentially a military curfew on the people. Anyone caught outside for any reason was beaten by officers and thrown in jail. This didn’t even help flatten the curve overall because the leader continued to allow soccer matches and other big social gatherings to take place.
Not only that, but around the time of the election in June of 2020, Vucic made the abrupt claim that the virus was gone and it was safe again, and he lied about the number of cases and deaths. Obviously, this was a ploy for him to get reelected. In fact, they lied so bad that they messed up the distribution of data, so people caught on rather quickly. But either way, people believed him, he got reelected, and he immediately went back on his claim, continuing to throw people in jail if caught outside. The people were rightfully pissed and riots broke out.
So yes, Serbia does have it extremely bad. Just because it’s a small country doesn’t mean it’s issues are irrelevant, and anyone who feels they can dismiss this shit because these aren’t Americans can fuck off. You clearly don’t care about other people.
Please reblog this version of the post because no one knows anything about Serbia and they are experiencing their own Trump reign.
Ending emissions from cars is what this new bold move from British Columbia is all about! Every vehicle sold will be powered by electricity in less than 20 years, but should they go green even sooner?
