As sweet as sugar
felix x reader - in which baking a cake for a friend goes horribly wrong | wc: 1.3k
you’ve always been a good kid, always willing to go the extra mile just to make someone smile. so with your best friend’s birthday coming up, you decided to bake her an entire cake from scratch.
and what better way to do that than with your boyfriend, felix, who loved baking almost as much as you did?
…or so you thought.
“hey, i’m pretty sure the recipe said two and a quarter cups of flour, not two and a half.”
felix glanced up from the bowl of chocolate frosting he was mixing, his voice light, but you could already hear the disappointment underneath it.
you quickly checked the recipe on your phone.
right.
two and a quarter.
“oh. my bad…” you muttered sheepishly.
great start already.
trying not to dwell on it, you continued mixing the batter before carrying the bowl over to the fridge to grab the milk, completely unaware that felix had stepped behind you.
“hey, watch out-”
too late.
the bowl slipped slightly in your hands, and within a second, cold cake batter splashed all over felix’s shirt. a streak of batter slowly dripped from the sleeve of his hoodie onto the floor.
“…oh my god.”
felix stared at the mess in silence for a few seconds before letting out a frustrated sigh, running a hand through his hair.
“seriously?” he muttered.
your stomach dropped instantly.
“i said i was sorry…”
“i know, but this was supposed to be done already.” his voice came out sharper than he intended.
you swallowed hard, blinking quickly as embarrassment crawled up your throat.
“right. sorry for ruining everything.”
felix’s expression dropped almost immediately.
“wait, i didn’t mean it like that…”
but you were already stepping away from the counter, avoiding his gaze completely.
“it’s fine,” you mumbled quietly, even though it obviously wasn’t.
felix opened his mouth again, probably trying to fix it, but the tight feeling in your chest was already too much.
“i’m just gonna go to my room for a bit.”
“baby, wait-”
the bedroom door closed before he could finish.
you buried your face into your pillow the second you sat down, groaning quietly at how stupid the whole situation was.
maybe you were being dramatic, and you knew felix didn’t even mean it like that.
but the embarrassment still burned painfully in your chest anyway.
nearly twenty minutes later, a soft knock came from the door.
you ignored it.
“…baby?”
felix’s voice sounded much quieter now, more careful than earlier.
guilt twisted in your stomach almost immediately.
maybe you shouldn’t have stormed off like that.
“can i come in?”
you didn’t answer, too embarrassed to face him.
“…please?”
your grip on the blanket tightened slightly before you finally sighed.
“it’s open.”
the door creaked open slowly, followed by the sound of soft footsteps.
a second later, the mattress dipped beneath his weight as felix climbed beside you, pulling the blankets over himself.
you still couldn’t bring yourself to look at him, let alone speak.
“hey,” he murmured softly. “i’m sorry for getting worked up like that… you know i didn’t mean it.”
the warmth of his breath against the back of your neck made the tight feeling in your chest ease slightly.
felix wrapped his arms around your waist, gently pulling you closer against him.
“i ruined everything,” you mumbled quietly.
“you didn’t ruin anything.”
“the cake’s probably disgusting now.”
felix let out a small laugh against your shoulder.
“okay, maybe the first one is.”
you finally cracked the tiniest smile at that.
“but,” he continued softly, tightening his arms around you a little, “i already started making another one.”
your head turned slightly. “what?”
“it’s in the oven right now.”
you whipped to look at him, and felix looked down at you with that stupid face that you couldn’t be mad at for long.
“…you remade the whole thing?”
“well, yeah...” felix nudged his nose lightly against your shoulder. “i wasn’t gonna let you cry over cake batter.”
“so… you really remade it?”
“mhm.”
“in what time?”
felix shrugged slightly. “love and determination.”
you snorted before you could stop yourself.
“you’re so annoying.”
“you love me though.”
you couldn’t deny that.
felix placed a gentle kiss on your forehead.
“don’t worry about it anymore, alright baby?”
you hesitated for a second… then gave the smallest nod.
“i’m still a little mad at you,” you mumbled eventually, voice muffled by his chest.
he let out a quiet laugh. “fair..”
“i’m still not letting you carry cake batter near me again though.”
you made a small sound of protest, but it didn’t have any real bite.
not when you were already relaxing in his arms again.
and not when the smell of a fresh cake was slowly starting to drift in from the kitchen.
