By now I hope at least some of you have heard of Javier Payne, a 14-year-old black boy from the Bronx who was attacked by the NYPD last weekend as he was walking home from a hookah shop in his neighborhood.
Cops said he was fighting with another boy, a 13-year-old neighbor in the area.ย
So what do you do when two boys are fighting?ย
Well, if youโre the NYPD, and the boys in question are black, you throw one of them through a window, puncturing his lung. As he lies there with blood filling his lungs, you handcuff him and refuse to call an ambulance. When you do call an ambulance, you enter the protocol for an adult drunk, instead of a dying child. When the ambulance comes, you refuse to let the paramedics uncuff him. Even as the paramedics explain that this boy is dying, you argue that heโs faking it and that he deserves to die there on the street for fighting with another boy. ย When you finally do let the paramedics uncuff him and take him to the hospital, you fail to report that you threw him through a glass window despite dozens of eye-witnesses reporting the opposite. ย When you are called upon by the community to account for your actions, you decide to do an โinternal investigationโ - therefore being accountable to no one outside your division. You encourage the deregulation of police conduct and refuse to let outsiders investigate how you train your officers.
And what do you do, if youโre a concerned citizen who is tired of seeing this? You write Bill de Blasio and you ask him to start an outside investigation into police brutality. ย Or at least thatโs what I did. And if you want to cosign what I wrote him, you can do that here. And if you want to signal boost that for Javier Payne, you can do that too. You can sign my petition letter here.

This brave student has died after protecting two teen girls from harassment
Dozens of Germans mourned Sunday over the death of 23-year-old student Tugce Albayrak, who was killed after defending two teenage girls who were reportedly being harassed by a group of men.
The BBC reports that Albayrak was brutally attacked after intervening in the harassment earlier this month. Albayrak reportedly heard โcries for help from the toilet of a fast food restaurantโ in the German town of Offenbach before confronting the group of men who were aggressively pursuing the two girls. One of the men later returned and attacked her in a parking garage.ย
Tugce was also a Muslim. Please donโt forget this. Since every time a Muslim commits a crime, people are so quick to mention their religionโitโs only fair that we apply the same standard and mention Islam when a Muslim does something good. And what Tugce did was so amazing and brave. She died a true heroโs death and Iโm hoping this will continue to open peoplesโ eyes to the deadly consequences street harassment can lead to.ย
mubarak got acquitted!!!!! im LAUGHINGย
wait let me remind u i forgot nobody on this website actually cares about egypt if itโs not pyramid-related
remember when egypt had a big revolution in 2011? and we got rid of mubarak, our thirty year strong dictator? and he got arrested and has been on trial since then, along with his sons and others accused of killing protestors and corruption?ย
oh yeah he walked free todayย

Escaping from North Korea in search of freedom:ย Yeonmi Park tells her story of life in North Korea and calls for action against such human rights violators.
Yeonmi was speaking at the One Young World Summit 2014 in Dublin.
I have to do this because this is not just I am speakingโฆ This is for the people who want to tell the world what they want to say.
North Korea is an unnatural country. There is only one channel on TV and there is no internet. We arenโt free to sing, say, wear or think what we want.
North Korea is the only country in the world that executes people for making unauthorized international phone calls.
North Koreans are being terrorized today.
When I was growing up in North Korea, I never saw anything about love stories between man and woman, no books, no songs, no press, no movies about love stories. There is no Romeo and Juliet, every stories were propagandized to brainwash about the Kim dictators.
I was born in 1993 and I was abducted at birth even before I knew the words โfreedomโ or โhuman rightsโ. North Koreans are desperately seeking and dying for freedom at this momentโฆ
When I was 9 years old, I saw my friendโs mother publicly executed. Her crime? Watching a Hollywood movie!
Expressing doubt about the regime can get 3 generations of whole family imprisoned or executed.
When I was 4 years old, I was warned by my mother, not to even whisper, the birds and mice could hear me. I admitted it. I thought the North Korean dictator could read my mind. My father died in China after we escaped North Korea. And I have to bury him at 3 am in secret. I was only 14 years old. I couldnโt even cry, I was afraid to be sent back to North Korea.
The day I escaped North Korea, I saw my mother raped. The rapist was a Chinese broker. He had targeted me. I was only 13 years old. There is a saying in North Korea, โWomen are weak, but mothers are strongโ. My mother allowed herself to be raped in order to protect me.
North Korean refugees, about 300,000 are roaming over in China. 70 percent of North Korean women and teenage girls are being victimized and sometimes sold for as a little as 200 dollars. We walked across the Gobi desert following a compass and when it stopped working, we followed the stars to freedom. I felt only the stars are with us. Mongolia was our freedom moment.
Death or dignity; I was with the knife, we were prepared to kill ourselves if we are going to be send back to North Korea. We wanted to live as humansโฆ
People often ask me, โHow can we help North Koreans?โ.ย There are many ways but I would like to mention 3 for now.
One, as you care yourself, you can raise awareness about human crisis in North Korea.
Two, help and support North Korean refugees who are trying to escape for freedom.
Three, petition China to stop repatriation.
We have to shed the light in the darkest place in the world. It is not just North Korean human rights, it is our rights!
The North Korean dictators have violated for 7 decades. We need governments all around the world to put more pressure on China to stop repatriation. In particular, Chinese delegates of โOne Young Worldโ can play a part by speaking up. North Korea is indescribableโฆ No human deserves to be oppressed just because of their birthplace. We need to focus less on the regime and more on the people who are being forgotten.
โOne Young Worldโ, we are the ones who will make them visible. Please join me as we make this a global movement to free North Koreans. When I was crossing the Gobi desert, scared of dying, I thought nobody in this world cared. It seemed that only the stars were with meโฆ
But you have listened to my story. You have caredโฆThank you very much.

Why is this the first post that contains her entire speech? This is not just a recounting of all the horrible things that happened to her, this is an explanation of the regime she lived under and a call to the rest of the world for action. If you donโt reblog the beginning and end youโre completely missing the point.
Young man had sign saying, โfree hugsโ, at a Portland Ferguson rally. This cop took him up on the offer. This child is moved to tears from being shown kindness by a cop. That means that this boy did not expect to be shown this simple kindness by someone that has sworn to protect and serve him. Someone that he is supposed to trust.ย
hi guys, i know everyone is focusing on the ferguson situation right now but winter is here and it is freezing in Syria, where there are millions of homeless refugees who canโt afford blankets to keep themselves warm. if you could just take a moment of your time to donate...
im getting this tattooed on my ass
Please donโt forget Darrien Hunt, a 22 year old cosplayer from Utah who was carrying a replica sword who was shot 6 times in the back while he was fleeing for his life 2 months ago
The cops tried covering this one up too:
He was shot from behind, running away and fleeing like we see in theย surveillance tapeย where he is running for his life
The policeย originally claimedย that he was swinging his sword and lunged at him before they begun shooting him.ย The police chief ruled the shooting justified.ย This isย contraryย to the evidence which indicates he wasย shot in the back
They allowed a police chief to make this ruling outside of a court of law, the investigation was carried out by an โofficer-involved shooting protocol teamโ
The sword was bought from a gift shop andย did not have a sharp edge, yet in the report they claim he swung it at them and they were afraid of getting sliced
The two cops who shot him are bothย reinstated: Schauerhamer and Judson
The area is 93% white, 0.5% black
The questioning of the cops was delayed and theyโve now altered their story (that Hunt lunged at them and that is why he ultimately died)
The shot that killed him, though, was the shot in the back that he received while fleeing. He was shot a total of 6 times.ย
We are allowing police departments all over the country to get away withย murder. They are held unaccountable for theirย murder. This isย genocide. People are justifying this just like they justify Brownโs murder. Question everything. Donโt believe a word theseย genocidalย police departments say all over the country. They are held above the law.ย This will keep happening if precedent is not set.
