Grindeldore fic writes I have a question

When you write grindeldore stories what do you always include?

For me I always include the importance of Ariana to both men, how lonely both of them are, Albus’ intense guilt and Gellert’s jealousy.

What about you guys?

In 1899:

Them bonding over pretentious intellectual discussions, especially over the Hallows.

Friendly duelling.

Gellert climbing in through Albus’s window at night, despite Albus’s room being under the roof.

Albus’s lonliness and thus the absolute awe at meeting someone who understands him.

Pre 1945:

Albus never giving up hope he could still make Gellert see reason and return to him.

Gellert hoping the same.

(Since the existence of the blood pact:) Albus using the pact as a means of self-punishment for when his moral dilemma gives him anxiety.

Post 1945:

Afterlife reunion scene, because Albus literally gave Gellert the opportunity to save/repair his soul and at least they get the happy ending on the next great adventure.

I agree with all of those, especially afterlife reunion scene. I love them finally reuniting and being able to spend death together because they hardly got to spend life together

1899 - Albus falls first but Gellert falls harder. Ariana is incredibly important to both of them. Gellert gets close to Ariana (primarily because Albus and Aberforth sleep later and Gellert makes her breakfast as he is an early riser), Aberforth constantly snapping at Gellert-who is irritated but sees Aberforth as an irritating child but he does always threaten to eat Aberforths goats. Gellert climbing in through Albus' window of an evening. Albus kissing Gellert first in his bedroom. The two of them writing letters back and forth (although they are almost always together), Albus and Gellert slipping away to the outskirts of the village to sit in a meadow or swim in the creek. Albus being present for one of Gellerts visions and being terrified for him at first. He hates what they do to him. Gellert having creatures/familiars. He has a fire salamander named Apollo during that summer and he carries him around in his pocket or on his shoulder.

I have so many more but these are the main ones I write for that summer.

I always add how they never have or will fit perfectly together. Albus, even in his youth, was always too devoted to reputation to truly be himself. Gellert, in all his ambition, forgot his true ends. They'd never work long term, but they're oh so lonely. They love each other more than words could express, but their fate was sealed a long time ago. Even if they wish otherwise.

I find it weird how often people assume I'm a woman because I write fanfiction. Then they assume I have to be gay if I correct them... I'm neither of these things. I'm very confused as to why it's seen as weird for men to have interests 😅 Like yes, I ship two men and like reading about them. That doesn't mean I like only other men. 🧍‍♂️

Tom was clearly an outcast in Slytherin until he was 16. The author wrote off Slytherin as a Harrow-like institution where money, connections, and who your parents are decide everything. Unlike Harry, Tom didn't have a proper last name to protect him. Rather, the Slytherins ignored him until he discovered the Chamber of Secrets.

100% agree, but I'd argue it was a bit sooner. Considering parseltongue is family trait, I'd say, probably around third year, he'd be accepted. I think since he'd had gotten good grades and assimilated into the culture by then, he'd be considered part of the house. Although I don't think he'd have liked outside his circle until 6th year, yeah.

You know what? I've talked a lot about Tom on this blog (obviously). But I'll tell you all about non-tom ships that destroy me. And ranked. For the funsies.

1. Gellert Grindelwald/Albus Dumbledore

Do I... do I even need to explain? It's grindeldore. It's angsty AND canon. Their's Oscar Wilde references everywhere, and it's beautiful. This is honestly the ship that's destroyed me, heart, and soul. I'd like to say a special thank you to fic writers who wrote those summer of 1899 fics. I've yet to stop crying.

2. Scorpius Malfoy/Albus Potter

Again, do I need to explain? This is canon, and you can fight me. I will scream that Cursed Child is good until the day I die and you can fight me.

3. Abraxas Malfoy/Harry Potter/Orion Black

Listen, I'm in rare pair hell okay. You don't need to remind me. Every fic with some variety of this ship has been gloriously peak okay. Just trust me. It works.

4. Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter

Okay, it can't be overstated how much I love this ship. HOWEVER, I am a picky bitch. I feel as if this ship has gotten so popular it's a wee bit oversaturated. I've run into a lot of mischaracterization in this ship. Either Draco or Harry will inevitably lose all agency in some way. Which is not my thing. Kudos to anyone with a differing opinion.

5. James Potter/Regulus Black

Same thing with drarry, but it's worse because they have 0 canon interactions. I love jegulus. However, I hate marauder fandom drama, and that's all I'll say.

6. Sirius Black/Remus Lupin

I will not explain, or I'll get smoked. Wolfstar fans, you terrify me.

7. Barty Crouch Jr./Evan Rosier

Can I hear a "we love toxic doomed yaoi!!"? It's only this low because I've only just discovered this beauty, so it hasn't had the chance to alter my heart and soul. BUT HOLLY FUCK ARE THESE FICS GOOD. I've been fed well.

8. Familial Severus Snape & Harry Potter

I don't ship them romantically. In the slightest. However, Snape being a reluctant father makes me cry. Some of those aus feel unrealistic, but the ones that get it right... gods gift, honestly.

9. Severus Snape/Any or all of the Marauders

Hatred to horny. I will not explain further.

10. Gellert Grindelwald/Newt Scamander

I don't even like this ship. I don't. Yet I can't stop reading them. I've genuinely cried from some of these fics. I don't even know why. Yet they're so sweet. I think those writers have GENUINELY hypnotized me. Someone, anyone, RELEASE ME.

Sometimes, I like rewarding bad behavior when I write. Was that a horrible thing to do? Maybe. But, in Canon, you succeed cause you're horrible. Or it's just realistic for the setting. It works as ragebait, too, to the idiots who think discussion is endorsement, which is a great bonus.
