Something bad that Tommen could not have controlled or influenced in any way: *happens*
Tommen, becoming the pigeon meme: Is this my fault?
❝ Aunt Cali ? ❞ He is nearly a man grown, five-and-ten already Her Pavetta is of an age with him and she is already a wife, and going to be a mother ! but he cannot help the childish sense of uncertainty that fills him : He has never cared for change, and the whole world seems to be changing around him. With Pavetta keeping secrets from him, with her marrying a man so much older than her, and Calanthe herself remarrying, everything in his life feels suddenly unstable. ( He is no longer sure where he fits among them ).
❝ I would have told you, if I’d known. She tells me things, usually, but she didn’t tell me about him, I swear. Please don’t be cross with me. ❞

WINTERGIRLS: LAURIE HALSE ANDERSON.
It’s not nice when girls die.
Thank God you’re stronger than she was.
… When I was a real girl,
They better work quick. The voice of a dead girl is waiting for me on my phone.
I was the root of all evil, ___ said. A negative influence, a toxic shadow.
Did it hurt?
Was it easy?
For one moment we are not failed tests and broken condoms and cheating on essays; we are crayons and lunch boxes and swinging so high our sneakers punch holes in the clouds. For one breath everything feels better.
There is no safer. There’s not even safe, never has been.
… When I was a real girl, my mother fed me her glass dreams one spoonful at a time.
A ghost wraps herself around me, strokes my hair, and puts me to sleep.
I am the library aide who hides in Fantasy.
I am the circus freak encased in beeswax.
I am the bones they want, wired on a porcelain frame.
I am contagious.
They died.
I double-dare you. If you don’t have the guts to do it, you’re a weenie.
Don’t call me ‘honey.’
Come to see where she died?
I taste like dirty quarters.
I had figured out that my eyes were broken long before that. But that day I started to worry that the people in charge couldn’t see, either.
It’s called a wake, but nobody really wants the dead to rise.
She is Charlotte, I am Wilbur.
Nobody sang to her or held her or helped her pick up the broken pieces.
You’re not dead, but you’re not alive, either. You’re a wintergirl, caught in between the worlds. You’re a ghost with a beating heart.
I won the wintergirl trip over the border into dangerland.
Tommen Edits ( 21 / ? )
Thinking about how before Myrcella was sent to Dorne, she and Tommen were always spoken of/depicted together, as a pair. It was never just Myrcella or just Tommen, it was always Myrcella and Tommen......
Ned Stark: These are my five legitimate children. All but one of them look like my wife.
Also Ned Stark: Robert's bastards look like him but his legitimate children all look like his wife! Clearly the answer is that they aren't his!
Still Ned Stark: I see no flaws in my logic.
Hear me out: An AU where Tommen is Robert’s child but Joffrey and Myrcella aren’t (and all the chaos and drama that would cause)
Tommen deserved a brother who actually cared about him, bye

“what happened to you made you stronger”
i was a child. i didn’t need to be strong i needed to be safe
HE’S FOUR-AND-TEN, and more Narnian, he thinks, than Westerosi. He can barely remember the castle he was born in. His world is Narnia, is the sunlit halls of Cair Paravel and the creatures who live in this strange, wonderful land ( His world is Peter’s patience and Susan’s smile, Edmund’s wit and Lucy’s laugh. His world is Mycella’s happiness and the faces of his niece and nephew, and all the things he loves ).
His mother is little more to him than vague memories of a voice and golden curls, and handwriting he reads in letters. She is practically a stranger, for all that they are linked by blood. Tommen remembers that he missed her, that he wept, when he was small and they had just arrived, because she was not with them and he was afraid. But now he has made a life here, and now her visit is an intrusion upon that which is now normal. Nonetheless, he has been sent to greet their esteemed guest at the dock and escort her to the palace, a gesture of respect and kindness before she meets Narnia’s four monarchs.
He knows her as soon as she steps off the boat. For all that his memories are blurry, her attire and attitude give her away as the famed lioness, not to mention how strong the resemblance is between Myrcella and their mother.
❝ Welcome, my lady mother, ❞ he calls, bowing politely as he has been taught, ❝ I hope the journey here treated you well. I don’t know if you recognize me... ❞

Westeros: *Starts calling Tommen "the Gentle"
Tommen, immediately writing to Susan: MOM HOLY FUCK
"I wanted to be your Father." Jaime whispered, his hair had been shaved away and his beard had grown in and he looked old and his fire had dimmed. "I...your Mother would not let me."
❝ I don’t believe you. ❞
THE WORDS are spit in the knight’s direction, as though they are poison, as if they burn his tongue. There is little of the famed Lannister coldness in him, none of Jaime’s callousness or Cersei’s capacity for cruelty. And yet his eyes are cold, like chips of emerald, glittering and hard, unyielding.
❝ Even if you couldn’t claim me, claim us -- ❞ For it was not only him that had been deprived of any paternal affection, but his siblings too : Myrcella, with her blinding smiles that she worked to make look effortless, and Joffrey; Joffrey who had been so lonely, so desperate for a father’s love that it had twisted and corrupted him, fed the monster that lived in his chest.
❝ Who would have ever thought twice about a childless uncle doting on his sister’s children ? Who would have dared object to you, of all people, doing as you pleased ? Mother might have been a convenient excuse, but don’t try to lie to me or fool yourself. If you were distant from us, it was because you wanted to be. ❞
Anger feels good, now, feels righteous. It burns out all the sorrow and hurt that lingers in his heart despite his disgust. He wants to scream, to strike out, to HURT Jaime the way he has been hurting for so long, unable to show it for the sake of reputation or dignity or any of the other reasons he has suppressed everything he has ever felt.
❝ If you truly wanted to be a father, if you ever once loved any of us, then, gods damn you, you could have at least tried ! ❞
Listen, after that gifset, I feel the need to say… in an au/future where Tommen discovers who his father really is…. he’s absolutely horrified. Not only is he illegitimate, meaning he has no claim to anything he’s been told is his, but he is also the product of an incestuous relationship, which his religion teaches is an unforgivable sin. After learning the truth, Tommen sees himself as a monster, an abomination in the eyes of the gods, and he becomes very much self-destructive.
