After ten years in business, our queer-owned store designed to help get folks with smaller feet into snappy dress shoes is having to shut down. We want to wish a heartfelt farewell and thanks to our Tumblr followers in particular. You were some of the first folks to buy our shoes, and you called us on our crap when our marketing copy was needlessly focused on cisnormative framing. You held us accountable, and you gave us your love when we responded to that with a solid "oh shit, yeah, you're right, let's fix that."

Hello dapper dressers with smaller feet! You may have heard about Tomboy Toes, a small online trans-owned shoe company that has been in business since 2016 - but you may NOT have heard about our handsome lightweight dress boots the Traveler's Toecaps, designed for women, trans men, and non-binary folks with smaller feet!

Tomboy Toes was started by a young trans guy just longing to look dashing but struggling to find things in his size that weren't from the women's section or the children's section. We're here to make your dream of looking like a slick secret agent or dignified university professor come true - and our flagship line of dress shoes, the Downtown Dappers, is available in extra wide as well!

Omg I just had the most adorable reference question.

A high school aged girl came up to the reference desk asking for a test prep book on mathematics. I got up to retrieve it for her and she said “wow I love your shoes, where did you get them?”

“Oh, thank you. I can’t remember the name actually, but I ordered them online from a place that sells more masculine shoes in my size, because I can never find any in stores.”

Then she lights up and starts describing an outfit she’s putting together for a dance, and lists off that she has the “more masculine looking dress pants” a button up, suspenders. She just needs some good dress shoes. She tells me “everyone keeps saying I should wear heels with it but... no, I’m not that kind of girl”

And so I get the book for her and tell her I’ll treat her question about the shoes as a reference question and look up the website for her. She’s very excited by this and tells me that when she’s tried on men’s shoes they don’t fit right.

Then she tells me that “I look at you and I’m thinking damn I would wear her style” then stops herself and asks “is it okay that I used her pronouns about you?” And I was like yeah! I go by they and she pronouns.

And then she was smiling and left with her math book and website for shoes.

Extremely adorable baby butch. I hope she has a great time at the dance.
