As a teenager or a young adult, we’ve all probably struggled with acne, red splotches, blemishes, dry skin, etc. at one time or another (or for some people, constantly!) so I came up with an idea: a flawless skin routine inspired by a celebrity.
And who’s one celebrity that has almost perfect skin?
First... let’s take a look at Perrie’s near-flawless skin throughout the years:
She is gorgeous! Okay, yes, she has some makeup on but you can also tell that even underneath it all she has practically zero acne. Whether or not you like Perrie, you have to admit she has pretty good skin.
No lie... some of us would kill for flawless skin like that.
Step One: Recognize your skin type.
Is your skin oily, dry, natural, or combination?
Oily skin means you’re prone to breakouts; you have blackheads, pimples, enlarged pores, and your complexion may be dull or shiny.
Dry skin is when you have red patches and the texture is rough and may be flaky (you notice peeling if, for example, you’re applying foundation); pores may not be visible but you may notice that you’ve probably had to moisturize loads of times in just one day.
Natural skin is very common; this means you hardly have any acne at all and things seem to be at an even tone; your skin stays well hydrated-- it’s not too oily and it’s not too dry but sometimes you need help maintaining this.
Combination skin is another type that’s very common; your skin is oily in your T-zone area (forehead, nose, and chin) while other parts of your face are dry and flaky.
Step Two: Learn what triggers your breakouts, dryness, and other skin problems.
Cut down on foods that have grease and fat in them (especially if you have oily skin).
Avoid touching your face with dirty fingers and don’t pick at scabs or pimples.
Use a moisturizer that’s oil-free and doesn’t clog pores.
Now and then, use a toner to control the oiliness; most people don’t use toners so the oil builds up.
Drinking lots of water can keep your skin hydrated while preventing dark circles under the eyes. Green tea also helps!
Remember to exfoliate! Exfoliating removes dead skin cells and improves the texture. (I highly recommend this for those with dry or combination skin.)
Face masks are good but don’t use them constantly; sometimes this can over-dry the skin or cause severe redness if you’re sensitive.
Use cold water when you cleanse.
If you use a washcloth, don’t ever rub or scrub hard. Do it gently. But most of the time, I just recommend using your hands.
Remember to wash your face once in the morning and once before you go to bed.
Never ever leave your makeup on overnight; it will clog your pores and cause flaky skin. It also builds up dirt, so make sure you’ve wiped it all off before or when you wash your face.
Step Three: Pick products that work for you, especially if they’re in your budget!
Here are some products for $10 or less that I recommend:
Burt’s Bees Renewal Cleanser - $9.99
Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control Triple-Action Toner - $7.50
Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment - $7.99
Clean & Clear Essentials Foaming Facial Cleanser - $5.99
Pond’s Cold Cream Cleanser - $5.99
Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser - $7.99
Again, these are recommendations. They may not be for everyone, so be careful! (Tip: If you go shopping, some products are made for specific skin types so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for those.)
Step Four: The actual skincare routine for flawless skin!
This is what you’ve been waiting for! It’s different for everyone (hence all the various skin types) but it should work. Here we go:
Remove all makeup (if you wear any)
Wash with cleanser for a whole minute, rinse, pat dry
Exfoliate for 2 minutes, rinse, pat dry
Apply toner to forehead, nose, chin, and/or any place that appears “shiny”
Let the toner set for two minutes (do NOT wash off the toner) and then apply a good facial moisturizer
Apply an eye cream underneath your eyes (optional)
However, one thing I should note, you don’t have to do this routine every day. If you have extremely sensitive skin, I recommend that you only follow it two or three times a week; but if you react well to it, maybe it can become a daily thing for you. Also (this is for everyone) don’t exfoliate more than four times a week-- your skin may over-dry due to this. Whatever you decide to do, I can’t wait to see the results.
If you have bad, very noticeable acne and want to track your progress:
Take a picture of your face before you start the routine.
After doing the routine for two days, take a results pic.
After another two days, take a results pic.
Monitor some changes (good or bad) that you’ve noticed.
Continue to track your progress as the weeks progress.
Consult a doctor if any severe issues take place (in general) with your skin.
I’m not a dermatologist but I’ve done the skincare routine with my combination skin and I’ve noticed good results.
I hope you all enjoyed this flawless skincare routine inspired by Perrie Edwards.
