Biography (TW: ):
The Vasco family -- a political dynasty made of greatness, built on hypocrisy and avarice. Those who bear the name will do anything to defend it and keep the family's best interest in mind, whatever it takes.
America has known Vasco senators, congressmen, governors, and the like. They have buildings and streets named after them. They have won the public with their charm and are here to serve. However, the people are starting to catch on. There's always a reason for a family to be in high places.
Enter Bobby, a boy who loves to be loved. He should've been raised in the White House, but his father lost the election, which has been banned as a topic at family dinners. Now, one of the party's biggest donors, and his mother, a Nevada senator and presidential candidate, he should be primed to become America's darling prince.
Except, he's Bobby, a boy who loves to be loved. Growing up, given that his parents had largely been absent, he basked in any attention that came his way. His mother, to make up for her absence and cruel outbursts, would praise each small action and accomplishment as if he'd fed five thousand people with five loaves and two fish.
A family obsessed with image but was so ugly on the inside made it difficult for him to reconcile between right and wrong. Their obsession with beauty spilled into his own vanity, which for a short man only births more insecurities. The staff become his second family but he doesn't realise they're all yes men. It wires him to think he isn't capable of making bad decision, and being doted on is the norm.
It's too late, when his family sees him for all of his shortfalls. They'd deemed him harmless because he is malleable and Bobby learns what he has always known: that his family can also be cruel.
The pressure of the family legacy has always weighed down on him like a thick wet blanket. When they bared their fangs at the smell of blood, he looked for a blooming rose. He cared too much about what everyone thought of him. He preferred to be liked than prioritise success. This became all too clear for his parents during his time at Harvard Law, to which they'd paid for him to get in, and an almost expulsion lead to them finally cutting him off, but only behind the scenes as they had an image to protect.
He might've done wrong, a lot of wrongs, a continuous succession of wrongs, but he had tried to do right by them. It's just that his heart was never in it. However, none of it was worth being labelled as the family embarrassment, although it's something he prefers to lean into these days.
His career in politics was clearly over. A politician should not crave validation as he did, his parents would say. Regardless, as he fought to gain their approval, and at an attempt to redeem himself, Bobby started several businesses with the help from dirty money, borrowed from a loan shark, and none of them ever flourished. Instead, he ended up becoming more and more in debt. This leads to him setting up his own law practice to work as a public defender and even then, he sees little to no success, rarely winning any of his cases.
