Even with all her training, surprisingly he didn’t seem to be the type to put her in this type of situation but she had been wrong before. Watching him carefully, she noticed that he was just as curious about her as she was him. Looking up she cleared her throat and shifted slowly, or as much as she could, “What about this is interesting?”

He gives a half grin at her reaction, entertained by how seemingly calm she was. That reaction definitely wasn’t one of a normal civilian, who would probably be begging to be let out or for him to spare them. All the better for him if she turned out to be important. Analyzing her up and down, he shrugs, “Well, it’s not every day you find someone tied up underground. Makes me curious how a lady like you got here in the first place.”

Three weeks. It had been three weeks since she had seen the rest of her team and three weeks since she was captured. It may not seem like much but the isolation was getting to her. Shifting in the magnetized cuffs which cut at her skin, she tapped the cold floor beneath her. She was underground in some kind of tunnel, this she knew. But where she couldn’t compute. A rustling was heard out the door and she almost held the hope inside that it was them, her team, the Outlanders.

He supposed that he should have expected running into something like this. After all, there were rumors that these tunnels were used as prisons, so it wasn't farfetched that he'd find an actual prisoner. He eyed the woman in cuffs in front of him, he debated what to do about this. It could be useful to him to free her, but there was always the off chance she'd try and snap his neck the moment his back was turned. Then again, depending on the circumstances, she might need to watch her own back.

"Well, this is certainly interesting."

Removing branches and other foliage from different vantage points of the vehicle Caine had finally gotten inside. It wasn’t much by any means, a vehicle they’ve had among one or two others including Mac’s truck that usually served as a reminder from his farming district days- and essentially the way they had gotten food so easily within the passing years. It wasn’t that far from seemingly anywhere, the amusement park, but the vehicles helped with a stealthier aspect and the plate scramblers (that often turned into registered plates when spotted by camera or hell-bent agents) proved safer than taking to things on foot. Caine’s eyes focused outside the window, unknowing of the path that would lead to the Outlanders but having more than one thought in mind as to get them back to Julian- just in case they so happened to be Trait Positive as well. He had gotten scarily good at finding out for himself the blood typing with the use of his own methods and stolen tech from hospitals he’d traded for (old tech mind you, but nothing short of something they couldn’t use or make better.)

“How did you come across this information,” he asked without much intention of hearing the true answer. It was rare that you got the name of the source, nor would Caine probably know who it was- seemingly because his affinity for faces or names escaped him people they usually ended up on a slab with their blood drained. It was easily for any person, even one so void of emotional attachment like himself.

Taking a turn towards the city, Tony continued to steer the car towards their destination. It was preferable for him to take undeveloped roads like this when on business since the central city streets were often crowded and had security cameras all over. The plate scramblers could take care of the camera part of things, but still, the faster the better in this case. From what Tony could guess, it'd only be a few more minutes before they reached their destination. He couldn't help but wonder if any of his contacts would be among the people there. Hopefully not anyone too valuable; it'd be a real waste if he had to eliminate someone before he'd gotten what he wanted out of them, but if it happened, it happened. He could work around any setbacks that may get thrown at him, after all. In order to survive in this world, one had to be flexible.

"Oh, I just happened to come across it on an errand," he quipped casually, trying to maintain some form of mystery as to his methods. It was an appealing image to him, even if the secrecy was slightly superficial. Tony liked the idea of being enigmatic, partly because of the power it seemed to give him. And really, he figured, there wouldn't be as much value in information gathering if everyone knew how to do it. Besides, he was starting to forget what that woman's name was anyway. It may have been something with a W, he'd have to make an effort to remember it if he ever ran into her again.

Bringing his hand up to his face, Caine gnawed at the skin that was loose around his nail and ripped it off to spit it to the side. An impatient reaction to Tony’s drawl that seemed never ending. Luckily when it did it proved the answer that Caine knew he would get and in turn made him relax internally. His reliance on Tony was a little backwards that way, knowing the guy had information at which proved he was useful but knowing that he was going to have it regardless. It was a guess as to the fact that Tony was just that type of person to have what you needed at the right time without hearing the stammers of ‘uhs’ or ‘ums’ and then inevitable ‘i don’t knows’. Which is most likely why Julian had kept him around for so long, he was an asset even though he wouldn’t admit it- without his pawns he would be a defenseless king high up in his castle of misfit blood bags.

Shifting his way from his one foot to the other he peeled himself off of the door frame and straightened up. Watching him as he crossed his arms, he spoke the next words with ease and without need for debate. “Alright,” he replied without a second thought and turned away from the other to walk the other way towards their concealed vehicles. “-let’s go, you drive.”

Not about to argue, Tony followed Caine towards the vehicle area. As much as he wouldn't mind seeing the other's impatience give away some form of desperation, he was eager to get going himself. Luckily he already had his pocket knife on his person from being out earlier and didn't need to bother sifting through his stuff for a weapon. Besides, he might have some additional tools somewhere in his car if they really needed it. Tony couldn't think of what exactly, but he vaguely remembered putting a few sharp things in his glove box; they'd do the job if knives didn't cut it. He couldn't help but wonder if he was getting over-excited, but he couldn't really help it. Tony had been starving for action; the Outlander scatter had been a promise of excitement for him that looked ready to live up soon.

Once they reached the vehicles, he wiped some stray foliage off of his windshield and hopped into the driver's seat, turning the ignition once Caine got in. "We'll take the backroad route, it'll be faster that way," he throws out casually, not giving Caine room to object to his chosen route before turning out and driving towards their destination.

Black Eyes & Broken Skin | Tony & Val

Valerie slung her backpack over one shoulder and drug her other arm through the shoulder strap. It was dark and cold in the camp, but there were enough lights here and there that she could see her breath and the outline of Tony’s back in front of her. Sounds of a fight were getting louder and louder and she wasn’t sure if she fully wanted to deal with this. Sure, she enjoyed taking care of the people in the camp, but sometimes she wished she could bury herself in the blankets on the couch in Seth’s apartment and never leave again. Though that was only a very small part of her. The Carnies were her family, plain and simply.

"Do you have any idea what happened? I didn’t think there was a party planned for tonight or anything."

Tony slowed in his walking a little, turning to look at Val over his shoulder. He always wondered what a girl like her was doing among the thrill-seeking cutthroats that the Carnies attracted. She seemed far too caring, and he doubted that it was faked. Regardless, her kindness was an asset to the people around her, particularly in situations like this.

"I think someone found a group of intruders or something of the sort; didn't quite catch exactly who they were. One thing led to another, and soon enough fighting broke out."

This was what Caine excelled at- the back and forth leading up to the final round of questions. Although he enjoyed the debate as much as someone like him could he found the ending result more fascinating. Granted his life was on the line in every literally way possible- the thought of his blood being on the outside marked on a bag with date, time, and number made him stiffen but only slightly. If the other was looking close enough he’d probably notice but many rarely did. Julian on the other hand would have sought out the weakness and played on it, just like Caine would have if the situations were reversed. The male ‘savior’ managed to make Caine more and more like him every day which brought questions as well as worry to his mind. Pushing it back almost instantly, Caine pulled out his signature grins and leaned semi-casually against the opening of the booth. “I’m always in demand of your company but today business trumps pleasure.” Caine mused, letting the half truth spill off his lips like honey, “-and with your nose for intel I’m sure you could help me fairly quickly.”

In pausing for effect and going on, Caine fiddled with a pocket knife. Turning it over in his hands he spoke up, making sure Tony could hear every word he was about to say. “Mac ordered me to pay a visit to the surviving trashmen to.. extend a hand if you will. And I told Mac that I knew the best guy for the job who may be able to help me— that’s where you popped into my mind. He told me that I couldn’t have picked a better guy. Pretty sure you’re up on his list of favorites if I say so myself.”

Something seemed odd that Tony couldn't entirely place. Perhaps it was the way Caine subtly tensed that tipped him off that there was more to this than the other was letting on. Most wouldn't think much of it, but Tony had always enjoyed picking people apart. It was something in his nature that longed for the feeling of control from knowing someone's darkest secrets. Given that nature, he couldn't help but wonder what Caine might be hiding and how far he'd be willing to go to keep it hidden. For now, Tony decided to go along with whatever Caine needed; after all, it was a fabulous opportunity to put his newfound information to use. He was waiting to see what would happen with that; lucky for him, it looked like wouldn't have to wait much longer.

"A favorite, am I? Well, looks like Mac has good taste," he laughed, accepting the flattery. Tony eyed Caine with mischievously glinting eyes as he moved closer to the entrance, rubbing at his wrist absentmindedly as he spoke. "You're in luck; I just happened to get information about where the remaining trashmen are hiding. Not too far out of the way, actually." He bit his lip a little in concentration, trying to remember the exact information. "It was the north side of town, I think...outskirts. Definitely the outskirts."

Julian’s words rung in Caine’s head like bells. You would think someone in his situation wouldn’t be afraid of dying but dying at the hands of someone of Julian’s caliber was worse than any torture he could ever imagine. He saw himself sometimes, strapped to that cold table and being filtered out bit by bit of blood. No anesthesia to take away the pain. They would jab him anywhere they could- arteries and veins, where ever they could get the most blood and he could see Julian, the malice dripping from his lips like venom. Caine knew he wasn’t the first to be subjected to Julian’s wrath and their inevitable servitude but he chose not to think about it. He’d become colder that way, more unrecognizable. He was never one to show emotion but even when he was a child he’d slip up and reveal his true intentions, now it was as easy as breathing.

Untangling himself from cords and wires, considering he was fixing in one of the arcade games, he strode off to find Tony, knowing the male would have some ideas about the answers he’d wanted. Tony was always reliable that way which is why Julian kept him around- his own personal way of getting intel without little to no effort. It wasn’t too hard to find Tony nor any of the other Carnies. They had their places in the park-nooks and crannies and certain rides they claimed as their own. Tony was different, he’d chosen one of the elongated ticket booths. Moving swiftly and without announcing his presence, a cigarette in how mouth and clear blue eyes on his target person he smirked slightly, “Tony, just the man I wanted to see.”

Tony had only just come back from an important trade with someone. He was in a relatively good mood, having been able to secure some valuable information. Having that location in his head was exciting; in a way, he had the opportunity to decide whether people could live or die. That kind of control was exhilarating for him. He'd nearly ran back to his small alcove within the Carnie hideout, tiny shockwaves of excitement still in his body. He took a few small breaths, trying to calm his obvious buzz. Tony was like a little kid when it came to this kind of thing.

Hearing someone's voice, he turned on his heel and saw Caine waiting. The younger man usually only directly visited him when he needed some sort of information, which Tony could generally provide easily enough. Something important must be happening if Caine was here, and Tony had the feeling that whatever it was would be entertaining. He folded his arms, eyeing the taller man with a curious grin, "What do you need? I take you're not just after my company."

Ah, thanks. [grabs the pen and scribbles down an address, handing the paper to her.]

[takes his hand and shakes it firmly before letting go] You set me up with your place to stay, then I’ll tell you.

Very well. I'll set you up with the address. [searches through his pockets for a scrap of paper.] It's a relatively abandoned place, so you won't need to worry about anyone bothering you. [frowns a little.] You don't happen to have a pen, do you?
