Water below, sky above
The sun warm on my back
Too warm
The wax burning my skin
I look down once more
Imagine the waves catching me
In their safety net
No broken bones
Slipping beneath the water
Blue green
Its coolness soothes the burns
Light filtering from above
I try to stop myself
Try to use nonexistent wings
But it's useless
Because they are gone
I couldn't help it
It was so bright
So dazzling
My fingertips stretched, reaching
My father warned me
"Don't fly too high"
I thought I knew better
There was surely no way I could fail
Now I have have nothing to show for myself
Nothing to catch me
I am Icarus
And I am falling
