why Oikawa Tōru is a well written character

people sometimes hate on oikawa ?? not realizing how well written he is ?? and why exactly his character is the way it is ?? so im gonna clarify that ig. Oikawa Tōru wasnt and still isnt an “extraordinary” ,“naturally talented“ ,”blessed” player, he’s infact a kid who has so much passion for volleyball and he’s trained so hard to get wherever he is rn, however there’s a certain line that he cant cross, and thats the “naturally born with it” line which is portrayed as Ushijima Wakatoshi. Ushijima never trained as hard as Oikawa did (im not dismissing the fact Ushijima does train, just pointing out he doesnt do it as much as Oikawa) and he was still able to beat Oikawa hundreds of times tournaments be it or practice games, and thats simply because Ushijima is blessed with natural talent that is handed to him from birth, he didnt have to work for it as much as any other player did, which makes him an “extraordinary”player. Another example of natural talent is Kageyama Tobio. Remember that one time when Oikawa snapped on Kageyama ??? its because he knows that he has so much more potential than himself, and if he does start polishing those skills he already has, he’d become another Ushijima and Oikawa didnt want to be left behind or feel inferior to his junior and thus him snapping and denying to train him every single time he’d ask. Oikawa is ment to portray those people who werent born with natural affinity to the sport, but still try to improve no matter what, which makes me respect his character so much and understand him.

So in my Japanese class today, sensei paired made us pair up with new people for an exercise, and the girl looks at me and goes: “hey, are you the one with the Haikyuu poster” because I posted this on a writing assignment we did like 6 weeks ago:

and like??? people actually remember me because of this? turns out she’s a huge Haikyuu fan too and now we’re friends, I just love how the show keeps connecting me to so many new people (also like 95% of the people in that class are weebs so the chances of running into Haikyuu fans is pretty high so far there’s three in a class of 25 that I know of)

Lol even my team captain sometimes calls me Haikyuu because of how I never shut the fuck up about the show.

The GoFundMe is being hosted by SentaiFilms and while I want to believe with every fiber of my being that the funds will be handled ethically I cannot guarantee it nor can I guarantee it will all go to the victims even if it is. Even if it does end up being legit, BEWARE OF COPYCATS!

The studio may not take donations at all. There's probably a lot to this one that complicates things such as cultural differences and legalities - especially if it's coming from abroad. This is still fresh and people still are reeling. Give them time to make a strategy and keep your ear to the ground. I'll also try to stay updated.

If you feel you MUST give right now go to KyoAni's official merch site and purchase a high-res digital print. (Instructions here!) Recognize that probably not every last cent/yen will go back to the studio because of royalties and such - and there is no guarantee any of it will be seen by victims, but right now it is the VERY best way to communicate to the studio that they have widespread international support on top of financially supporting them.

Spread the word, especially if you're unable to donate and still want to help. Things are just different for us as international consumers to a foreign business; but that doesn't mean our effort won't help or won't be heard even if our ability to contribute is limited. Talk about their quality work and where to watch it (Netflix has quite a few!), praise their ethical practices, don't share the name or face of the arsonist, and tell those salty about delays to kindly shut up. This studio touched a lot of people with their work - myself included - but the biggest takeway is more than 30 people lost their lives today and more are injured. Those are people - not moe anime girls or cool anime boys - and their lives are changed forever now. Frankly, if they didn't have such a following internationally we may have never heard about this or cared. That's why talking about this matters: we need to mourn the people lost, not the company impacted. That's what will resonate across cultures more than any amount of money or press will. By all means, put your money where your mouth is, PLEASE; but don't forget why it's important to do so.
