Businesses Come Together from Across America to Accept Their Top Choice Award at The Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto
Business owners from across North America received their hard earned Top Choice Award on Saturday, September 9th at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto. Many flew in from Calgary, Vancouver, Ottawa, and Austin TX just to name a few cities, to be recognized as the Top Choice of the people in their city. The event felt like a giant marriage between like-minded people as the room lit up with passion. There was a period of networking between the businesses, where connections were made for the years to come. While smiles flourished to the sound of clinking champagne glasses, lights fired to capture moments with Toppy (Top Choice Awards’ signature mascot) and plates were filled with some of the most exquisite cuisine prepared by the Fairmont Royal York, the room became more enjoyable by the minute. An ice bar within h shot glasses made of ice was truly a highlight, allowing businesses to loosen up and truly celebrate success. Live music from Stereo Flavour band, magicians showing off their tricks and live statues made for great conversation starters and photos that you can find on The Top Choice Award website. The awards ceremony was emotional, passionate, fun and entertaining. Scott Fox and Kat Callaghan from Z103.5 hosted the event, presenting over 45 awards. The acceptance speeches were filled with success stories and inspirational messages. A four-course meal was quickly cleaned from plates with courses ranging from beef tenderloin with seared foie gras to sticky toffee pudding with crème Fraiche catered by the Fairmont Royal York. Entertainment breaks were refreshing and exhilarating with performances from Stereo Flavour Band, ET the Mime, Tropicana Queens, Axé Capoeira and Dr. Draw. It was a truly memorable night.

Sometimes, we mistakenly believe that we are super-humans, able to endure anything. We accomplish what seems to be impossible in the given hours of one day, running on little sleep and barely having time for meals. This has become what we deem to be a necessary part of life. We all know that our daily lives can get hectic, and sometimes, sacrifices must be made. The problems arise when we spend too much time believing that we are “super-humans” and not enough time appreciating and maintaining the quality of our lives.
Mental and physical health are two of the most important things in our lives; two things that we are easy to take for granted. During this undeceive climate alteration, perhaps you’ve displayed symptoms of a cold that you simply ignored because you couldn’t afford to get sick. Or you may have noticed that even the simplest tasks end up leaving you exhausted. Our bodies have their own way of “talking” to us and letting us know what they need. We just have to be wise enough to listen.
Everyone has heard the phrase, “you only live once”, which was around long before the popular rap song. While this quote is often used to enforce the idea of having no regrets, another appropriate phrase we would do well to repeat to ourselves is “you only have one life”. You only have one body, one opportunity to make this life all that it could be. When you choose to start sacrificing certain things such as your mental health or physical health, your quality of life will drastically alter, and you will notice.
We, and we alone, have a choice to change things. If something is broken, we have the opportunity and means to fix it. When we ignore the signs our bodies send us, we ultimately create more damage in the long run. For example, we often tend to ignore physical pain, attributing it to the way we slept or assuming it will go away soon. However, physical pain, no matter how trivial it may seem, should never be overlooked. Small aches and pains may be our bodies way of telling us there is something larger at work. We are lucky to have so many resources at hand such as physiotherapy, which can assist us in being our best selves!
Start this week off by consciously choosing to always improve yourself - mind, body and soul. Remind yourself that you have one body and one life; how you treat it and what you choose to do with it is up to you!

In the article mentioned above, one particular line stood out to me. It asked, “we throw out milk past it’s expiration date, so why do we remain in unhealthy situations?” How many times have you let yourself remain rooted in the same patterns even though you knew they were not beneficial? It has become the norm to just accept certain things because it’s easier than taking a risk. That’s exactly what change is. It’s a risk. You alter certain aspects of your life and hope that they will pay off. We take the risk and hope for a reward. If you do take these chances and make the change, you’ll tend to notice that the reward is much greater than we could have imagined.
The photo above should be your constant mantra. At any moment in your life, you can change everything about it. No situation is hopeless, no scenario permanent. If life is not turning out how you imagined it would, make a change. Our irrational fear of change has dominated society for too long, making us far too compliant. Last week, we focused on passion and finding something to live for. This week, we focus on changing our thinking in regards to change. There’s a tongue twister.
When you’re feeling afraid of making a change, ask yourself how we can expect to make our lives better if we are not willing to make the changes necessary. Like the quote above, we cannot expect to do the same thing over and over and get different results.
Start this week off by embracing change. Teach yourself that change is a positive and not meant to be feared. If you are not happy with any aspect of your life, the only thing to do is embrace change. While it may be difficult, rest assured that it is necessary. Take the risk!
